There were many female singers who sang in the way Mariah does long before her and did'nt she only start going down the RnB route recently? :unsure:

 

Sorry, but personally I think it's ridiculous her being on the list considering many pioneers and legends are'nt. -_- I'm not just refering to Mariah, quite a few of those on the list should'nt be on it imo.

Okay, I seem to have to explain this every few days, so allow me to make it clear, Mariah went R&B/Hip Hop in 1995 with her collaboration with ODB on the Fantasy remix so no, it's not a recent thing.

 

Scotty you've said loads of times in this thread "they don't deserve this they don't deserve that" if you look at the first post Scotty, these artists have EARNED their right to be on this list, it's an official list from Billboard of the most successful acts, they're not acts someone has plucked out of thin air, they are artists that have achieved enough success in the US to class themselves in this category.

I voted for Michael Jackson because he did the greatest achievement in music and broke the greatest records ever..

he's the most successful artist of all time (Guinness) and he has the best selling album ever "thriller" which sold over 104 million copies world wide, and countless other records..

I think he's the best artist ever..

 

I agree, Michael is the best solo act on the list, and unlike Elvis and Sinatra he actually wrote his own songs. ^_^

 

However, "Thriller" has not sold 104 million, neither has Michael sold 750 million records, even if you added Jackson 5/Jacksons sales along with Janet and all the other Jackson family's solo sales, you would'nt get that amount. It a bit like when people say Elvis has sold a billion. :lol:

true.... but aretha franklin was bigger then them! (influencially) the supremes dont forget were berry gordys manufactured act, they were the 'girls aloud' of their day. aretha franklin on the other hand was a unique voice of soul.

 

but dont forget dusty springfield, she also was very influencial but possibly the most influencial/ original female artiste was kate bush, or siouxsie sioux both of which were total icons and inspired original creative music.

Personally, although he is my favourite artist, if Robbie Williams was on that list, there is not a change in a million years I would vote for him cause it's obvious to me that he is not a great as some of those on the list and I would only be kidding myself.

 

Bowie, Dylan, U2, The Rolling Stones and many many more should be on that list over people like Mariah, Whitney, Janet etc IMO. -_-

Well I agree that Aretha was more influential, but she wasn't on the list. But the Supremes were one of the first girl gorups ever, and they were one of the key acts that paved the way for todays female singers. Mariah Carey on the other hand, didn't show up until the early nineties. Which means she hasn't even been in the buisness for twenty years yet.
