WTF? :puke2:

YAY! For Madonna, Over 20 years and she is still the undisputed Queen!

Er, the Pussycat Dolls did better than her.

The Pussycat Dolls are a GROUP. Madonna is despite her album being released in 2005, the biggest selling female in the album chart.

Well, Shakira actually beat all of them!! I mean nearly 10 mil + 3.5 mil, I think that beats, yea, all of the artists this year.

Well the singles sales, are mostly based on points of radio airplay, so it would've mostly come out of the US since it was the most played song on US radio. She has only really had that one big hit though, whereas Madona has 2 singles in the top 10 and the best selling album by a female :P

High School Musical

Amazing acheivement for Evanescence though still a long way off 'Fallen' but fab all the same - likewise for P!nk and Nelly.

The singles are very c**p - it seems too American dominated

ummmmm... I don't believe they're based MOSTLY on airplay, mostly sales. Besides, has Madonna had a single that has hit #1 in basically EVERY country around the world, except for probably like 5? ummmm, I don't think so. Furthermore, HDL has sold BRILLIANTLY in nearly every country. I mean, she IS no.3 on top UK singles of the year isn't she? and where is Madonna on the US end-of-year charts? or elsewhere, for that matter? the point is, Madonna is an old, wrinkly, chip-toothed hag, and her reign is over...

Madonna Broke the record with Hung up, Number 1 in 41 countries!!!!!!!!!! The most be any artist! Confessions also set a record when it went to number 1 in 40 countries? And the only reason Hung Up failed in the US because it didn't get alot of airplay, but it sales were amazing since not many peole heard it, And I have nothin against Sharika, but theres no way in hell she'll still be aroubnd in 20 years! Madonna's regin is still unchallenged and no-one will ever manage the success she has! Fact!

No, you are incorrect. Mediatraffic goes mainly by radio airplay. For example, Leona's 'A Moment Like This' sold well over 500,000 in the UK alone last week yet according to Mediatraffic it only did 159,000. So it obviously does not go by mostly sales. -_-

Also, although I am not a Madonna fan, I think it is pretty ridiculous to suggest her reign is over because Shakira had one huge hit. If in over 20 years time Shakira can release an album that reaches #1 in over 40 countries and sell over 8 million then you may have a point. But for the moment Madonna is clearly in no danger whatsoever of being dethroned

We shall see in 20 years who still looks amazin' WITHOUT any plastic surgery. At least, she makes her own rules and doesn't follow other people (like when Madonna followed Brangelina in adopting in order to gain publicity). On the other hand, Shakira is planning a concert in which she and other artists will gain money for Latin America. Has Madonna done something like that? Needless to say, Shakira is on her way to becoming pop princess. Anyways, Scotty, though what you said about Madonna's longevity in the business is correct, you must agree with me in saying that the music industry has changed since the 80s and now, with the Internet and piracy and all that, more people are turning to downloading music illegally off the Internet. I'm sure that in 20 years, an artist will need to have a miracle to sell 2 or 3 million (WORLDWIDE!!!). And if she so-called "broke" that record, then Shakira topped it, and then some.

how many countries are collected for this (out of about 192)

Madonna doesn't need publicity, she actaully has talent and how the hell does she follow other people? Its Madonna! Even if u don't like her, she is still a trend setter!!

Ummmmm... are you implying that Shakira doesn't have talent?

1. She has perfect pitch (which I don't think that ugly chihauha [sorry, that's an insult to chihauhuas] has).

2. She has 140 IQ. I'm guessing Madonna can't even reach 100 IQ.

3. She choreographs her own videos.

Not enough talent for ya? And obviously, she did need publicity to gain money to pay Namibia so that she could buy herself a pass to adopt what's-his-face.

lets not turn this into a madonna vs shakira thread they are both major A league artists that can generate huge sales

as far as the biggest selling artist this year worldwide....it has been confirmed last month by music week its shakira, she is the biggest selling artist with combined sales of albums (oral fixation vol.1 and vol.2) singles and downloads, hmv website also mentions this fact too, incidentally she was also the biggest selling female in 2002 with the laundry service era

Good for Shairka, I think she's good and I like some of her stuff, but Madonna is still more successful, Fact.
