Pretty sure we marked separate #1 chart runs in the album sessions (ABBA Gold came up multiple times). If Bublé keeps returning to #1 every year then we'd eventually get 'Michael's Christmas Greeting' in 2040  Looks like 'Jingle Bells' is currently next in line, so another Sam connection there... but I'm equally happy to ditch the rule and pass.

Yeah by the time we got to ABBA's last separate run at #1 we'd run out of songs that weren't either top 2 hits or already played haha (so I just played 'Lay All Your Love On Me' again).

Sorry again for stopping writing down the songs being played at my sessions after a while but yeah it would be 'Jingle Bells' up next since the album had 3 separate runs at #1 before so I believe it should have been 'Holly Jolly Christmas' and 'Santa Claus Is Coming To Town' getting the 2nd and 3rd plays which I think sounds right! And tbh 'Jingle Bells' is the most iconic song on the album thanks to old chart show memes so I demand it gets a play xx (cue the album then somehow not actually returning to #1 haha)

I’d genuinely be happy to join for 5-10 minutes, play Sam and maybe another Stones track if we fancy it, and say Merry Christmas. :D

Are we not doing this today then? x

Following the very short and slightly impromptu bonus session on Sunday, this should be the final #2 of 2023:

1067 28/12/2023 Sam Ryder - You're Christmas To Me 1 wk 50-23-12-10-{2}+ -> 5 wks stopped by: Last Christmas - Wham!

Also played:

Sam Ryder - Space Man [poll winner as best #2 played in the final session proper]

The Rolling Stones feat. Lady Gaga - Sweet Sounds Of Heaven [the "Christmas #1" album track]

Michael Bublé feat. The Puppini Sisters - Jingle Bells [Friday's expected #1 album track]

---

Also to wrap up the final weekly poll of the series - the semi-final poll of polls is coming imminently:

Results of Week 25

These weekly polls ended with something of a surprise winner in Sam Ryder - Space Man as the current #2 incumbent's Eurovision runner-up hit took 14 votes to see off The Weeknd's and Dua's RotD mainstays which both settled on 12.

While those were the only songs to hit double figures in the best poll, only two made it in the worst and were even further ahead of the field, but Central Cee - Doja took it on 21 votes, with Drake / Lil Baby in second on 18.

Sticking with this thread until we open the #3 one.

We’d like a bit longer to prepare for the #3 sessions, and I also now have a couple of family birthdays this month, so the plan has changed to the following:

Sunday 7 January: no session

Sunday 14 January: Beatles listen-through

Sunday 21 January: no session

Sunday 28 January: hoping to start the #3 sessions.

Sorry about that. Obviously if someone wants to do a couple of one-off sessions of some sort in the empty slots feel free!

I was actually thinking of doing a listenthrough for the finale of my 2023 top 100 hits poll series so I might steal that 21st January slot x

(was looking forward to the Beatles one this week aw but fair enough if you need to push it back)

Did someone calculate how long the Beatles session would take?

I know they started very ahead of their time by creating a lot of 2 minute Spotify friendly singles so maybe it's not as long as I fear.

Do we think the Beatles would be better split into 2x2 hours? Not sure exactly when I’d do the second one though.
Maybe we could have a midweek session for The Beatles if it's split into two hours each. The first one could be either 9th,10th or 11th January and the second on Sunday 14th.
I'd prefer it to just be one session, 4 hours is not that much longer than the Sunday sessions usually are.

I feel the primary difference is surely that this would be 4 hours of the same band. I probably would maybe prefer two sessions - but I'm also conscious that I'll say this but then can't guarantee I'll definitely even attend so definitely don't change things for me.

Although if we're doing those types of sessions then I may insist that we shoehorn in a Pet Shop Boys 'Discography' session at some point (which is basically their Discography best of album but with my edited/extended versions like their Disco albums - which is naturally fabulous *.* )

I guess that's a fair point but the main reason I don't want it to be split is because it is for the purpose of a rate, and I feel like having a gap of days or a week halfway through would just mean I forget how to rank the second half of the songs relative to the first! But eh it's all first world problems, if more people would prefer splitting it into 2 then it's not that big of a deal.

(also haven't all of these sessions just been listening to Pet Shop Boys for hours on end? x)

Yeah I get that listening to the same act for 4 hours can be a bit draining. I don’t mind when it’s The Beatles but I know some others who are joining may not be super-fans! :)

I think I’ll stick with one session unless there’s anyone who would be put off joining by it being all in 1. Let me know if that applies to you!

I'd also prefer 2+2 but I probably wouldn't be able to attend if it's midweek and just for 1 hour or so on the weekend so you can ignore my vote :D
I'd prefer just the one session too, The Beatles are unlike most other acts in that their style changed so much throughout the years that it'll be a unique musical journey that won't feel like the same act by the end of it.
