We're back with an album to check out for our listenthrough / comments and of course for any reviews to be put in here too. This time round Wardy, James and myself have chosen Gorillaz huge 2005 album Demon Days which spawned the massive hits 'Feel Good Inc', 'DARE', Dirty Harry and 'Kids With Guns'/'El Mañana', the latter of which was just a top 30 hit but 4th single nonetheless. What better way to appeal to the members here than to pick a popular act and album and it's going to be a 1st time album discovery for me aside from the 3 singles I know obviously. Anyways you can also comment on your favourite non album singles in this thread as well ^_^

Here's the links to the singles..

One of my favourite albums of all time! 'Demon Days' showed so much growth for Gorillaz and is probably my favourite record from them (Plastic Beach would be a very close 2nd).

'White Light' is a great track, but is the weakest for me. It was really hard to choose my favourite, it was a three way tie between Feel Good INC, November Has Come & Dirty Harry. In the end I chose Feel Good Inc, it got some bonus points for me regarding its cultural impact.

The best song from the album without a doubt would be 'Feel Good Inc'. Favourites include 'DARE', 'Dirty Harry'

'White Light' not a fan of, I'm afraid.

I loved Feel Good Inc. for the immediate way the group tested the changing chart rules, by releasing a limited physical so it could chart on downloads. The song is a classic too of course. It was probably one of the first long-running hits that showed us how much slower the download era was going to be than the physical era.

Shame Dare was their No.1, because while it's also very well remembered, I think Feel Good Inc. deserved to be the chart topper.

I don't think I realised just how huge they still are - 219th biggest act in the world on Spotify, when they haven't had a big hit single in nearly 20 years, is rather impressive.

What song held Feel Good Inc from the top spot that week then I wonder...

Not forgetting the other single off of Demon Days, El Mañana x (double A-Side with Kids With Guns but I consider it the, ahem, real single due to El Mañana having the storyline video - also that Kids With Guns is very weak compared to the rest of the album)

obsessed with this video when I was younger, a great continuation of the story started in Feel Good Inc and Dare and parts of that story would carry through all the way to Plastic Beach.

but of course i love all of this album and have listened through it many, many times. Opening tracks are fun but it really starts going once it gets to Dirty Harry and only really White Light is a bit weaker than the rest of them.

'Fire Coming Out Of The Monkey's Head' is a bit on the nose but very unique track among their discography, the choirs on Don't Get Lost In Heaven and Demon Days are absolutely beautiful, the singles are strong, DARE and Feel Good Inc both really showing their longevity, 'Every Planet We Reach Is Dead' and 'November Is Come' are wonderfully creepy as I think befits the theme.

while of course FGI and Dare are towering tracks and some of my favourite ever, I am going to say that in the context of the album as a whole, El Mañana beats them if I'm thinking about the Demon Days experience specifically, stunning, stunning, beautiful track.

idk theme of this post EL MANANA LOVE

The album wasn’t what I hoped. The singles are amazing, but I can’t say I’ll return to the rest of the album again.

Whether you wanna come still despite hearing it already James we are attempting to plan a listen through for Demon Days!

Only days that are ruled out are Tonight (as I'm not around this evening to do it), Thursday (Rollo's album session) & maybe Sunday too as another listen through in chart forum. Could even push it to Monday next week as well but yeah any other day is fine with me!

Will need to know if anyone is interested though.
