Happy New Year, and welcome to the first chart of 2007! I'm sure most of you will be reading this with sore heads like me, but at least this chart offers some light relief ;)

New year, new chart, new no.1! Anything below no.1 just wouldn't do 'Same Jeans' justice. It's an amazing track which i've been playing practically non-stop since hearing it on Radio 1 in early december, and is a deserving track for first no.1 of 2007! Just one new entry this week, from Kasabian as they release 'Me Plus One', the third single taken from the brilliant 'Empire' album (Buy it!!!)

An extra new years treat for you all is the top twenty TOTB songs of 2006 (based on points). I'm sure you'll all have worked out which song is top of the chart, so don't expect any surprises!

Video Of The Week:

Keane | A Bad Dream

Didn't really understand this one at first, but it's been a pretty slow week for videos so why the hell not. Decent enough video, suits the song

Top 20 of the year to follow!

20 The Kooks | Naive [116 points]

5-5-3-7-5-7-10-10 [8 weeks]

Amazing track, and i'm not ashamed to admit it's the one that first got me into The Kooks. Looking back, i'm Kind of annoyed with myself that it never made no.1. The first of two of their songs inside the top twenty!

19 The Feeling | Never Be Lonely [121 points]

9-7-6-4-5-10-9-9-9 [9 weeks]

One of the most successful songs in my charts that never reached the top three, this was the fantastic follow-up to the summer smash 'Fill My Little World'. Wasn't too sure about this one at first, but it grew on me big time and as a result spent 9 very successful weeks inside my top ten!

18 The Zutons | Valerie [125 points]

10-7-8-6-3-5-8-8-9 [9 weeks]

Despite being a decent enough song, 'Why Won't You Give Me Your Love' never really made much of an impact on my charts. However, the summer follow-up Valerie was an instant hit for me! As the chart run proves, it wasn't instantaneous and it took a while for me to really like this song, but once it was in the chart it stayed there! Surprisingly (and rather shamefully) this only spent a total of 2 weeks in the top 5! What was I thinking?!?!

17 Snow Patrol ft. Martha Wainwright | Set The Fire To The Third Bar [130 points]

4-4-3-1-4-6-8-8 [8 weeks]

I can remember getting very very excited when this was announced as a single, but shockingly I made it no.1 for only one week :(

In my (admittedly very weak) defence, there were a lot of other good songs out at the time, but that's still not excuse for the petty chart run I gave it. One of the most overshadowed hits in my countdown

16 Muse | Starlight [132 points]

6-4-3-6-6-7-7-9-9 [9 weeks]

Muse, for me, were always one of those bands that were constantly in the background... decent enough songs, but not great. That was all set to change with the release of 'Starlight'. This is another song to add to the tally of songs that helped make the summer of 2006 a great one!

15 The Killers | When You Were Young [135 points]

2-3-2-3-4-5-6-9-10 [9 weeks]

This is one of only two songs in the top twenty that hit their peaks on more than one ocassion! This was the first release from Sam's Town, and an excellent choice for lead single imo. I kept this one in the chart for weeks after it's release, and understandably so!

14 Kasabian | Empire [147 points]

9-4-1-1-1-3-5-8-10 [9 weeks]

The first of 2 Kasabian songs in my chart, but this should definately be much higher up. One of my favourite songs from 2006, but another one which I was unsure of at first. After a few plays though, it rocketed to the top of my charts where it stayed for 3 weeks respectably. As quickly as it went up though, it plummeted back down and left the chart just 5 weeks after being no.1. Shame.

13 Snow Patrol | You're All I Have [151 points]

1-1-1-1-3-3-2-5 [8 weeks]

The only song in this countdown that went straight into no.1, but it was a shortlived stay in the top ten. Just 8 very successful weeks in the chart, all of which spent inside the top 5. The only logical reason I can think of as to why it exited so quickly was the iminent release of Chasing Cars, which actually debuted a week after this one left!

12 Arctic Monkeys | The View From The Afternoon [155 points]

4-7-5-2-3-4-6-7-8-9 [10 weeks]

So far, this is the only song in TOTB history to cover 8 or more positions during its stay! In fact, the only ones it didn't reach were nos.1 and 10! A good solid 10 weeks spent in the chart, however so it didn't do too badly. Shame I lost interest when I found out that the single wasn't chart elligible.

11 Kasabian | Shoot The Runner [156 points]

7-3-2-1-2-3-4-5-6 [9 weeks]

In retrospect, it's debateable whether or not I should have made this no.1. It's a great song and everything, but there were a couple of much better songs in the chart at that time that perhaps should have been top for more than a week. Regardless, this spent 9 weeks in the chart, mostly because of it's amazing video. Can't really explain why it fell out of the chart from no.6, though...

10 The Feeling | Love It When You Call [164 points]

7-6-3-2-2-2-3-5-8-8 [10 weeks so far]

Still in the chart after 10 weeks, 'Love It When You Call' was denied a no.1 place by The Fratellis (who, by the by will be charting later!). Unbelievably, this actually went one better than 'Fill My Little World' and peaked a whole position higher, despite being the weaker single! The reason? The slow pre-christmas period, probablies.

9 The Feeling | Fill My Little World [169 points]

6-5-3-3-4-3-7-6-8-7-10 [11 weeks]

11 weeks is a long time for any song, especially for one that didn't even climb as high as no.2! 'Fill My Little World' is one of the undisputed anthems of the summer, and was really the song that got me into The Feeling (Sewn failed to make any real impact). 2006 was certainly an excellent year for The Feeling, as this was the first of 3 top 5s for them, and the 2nd of 4 top 10s!

I love the whole new Top 10 (THE VIEW No.1 YAAAAYYY) and the whole year-end so far :cheer:

8 Keane | Is It Any Wonder? [169 points]

4-2-4-4-4-2-1-4-7-9 [10 weeks]

Entered the top 5 months before its release, and stayed there right up until Crystal Ball's release, this marked a change in direction for Keane. Gone were the pleasant piano-tinkling melodies, and in their place were much darker lyrics and edgier synth sounds. I liked it, and as a result this spent a very cool 10 weeks inside the chart

7 Ordinary Boys vs Lady Sovereign | Nine2Five [169 points]

7-6-1-1-2-2-2-3-4-6-10 [11 weeks]

One of the first songs in TOTB history to actually hit no.1 before its full release, Nine2Five really was the start to an excellent year for The Ordinary Boys. Admittedly, the Lady Sovereign original was a bit cack, but somehow the Ordinary Boys added their own uique style and turned it into one of the big pre-summer hits!

I wake up late every morning... :P Love this song, No.1 for ages on my personal charts and I agree with you about Lady Sovereign's solo version!

6 The Fratellis | Whistle For The Choir [185 points]

5-5-1-1-1-1-1-2-3-5 [10 weeks so far]

An absolutely cracking song from an absolutely cracking album, the only reason this isn't higher is because I didn't get it into the chart quickly enough! Still inside the top 5 after a very impressive 10 weeks, this is also the 2nd longest-running no.1 in the chart's history. Can't wait to see what they release next! (Ole Black n Blue Eyes would be nice!)

Is "Chelsea Dagger" still to come?? Well, I guess I'll have to find out later :P "Whistle For The Choir" was a great slow song from The Fratellis, their album "Costello Music" is into my Top 10 faves of the year!
