At the Annual Texas Livestock Show at the Houston Astrodome, Elvis does two shows, at 2pm and 7.45pm. Elvis makes a dramatic entrance, circling the arena in an open jeep, but he is discouraged both during and after the first show because of the poor acoustics and what he judges to be an indifferent response from a less than capacity crowd. ‘I guess I just can’t bring it in like I used to,’ he says mournfully to Gee Gee Gambill in between shows. But then his spirits are lifted at the evening show by the tumultuous response from a crowd of 36,299 (10,000 more than the previous record), and his performance, according to Robert Hilburn in the Los Angeles Times is ‘masterful.’

Because of his own ambitions in film and theatre, Goldenberg declines. :(

Of course there was an accident and Elvis required stitches to sew up the cut above his eye. While the material is less striking than last year’s Elvis Is Back, the pop sound that Elvis is aiming for is perfectly realised by the band, and Elvis’ voice is at its peak as an interpretive instrument, particularly on Don Robertson’s beautiful ballads. I Feel So Bad 1U3P64U3k-s

March 16, 200718 yr Author March 16th In 1974, Elvis was at the Mid-South Coliseum in Memphis for two shows at 2.30pm and 8.00pm. This was Elvis’ first appearance in his hometown since February 1961 and the four shows that are initially booked are immediate sell outs, prompting the Colonel to add a fifth, which he determines will be the perfect occasion for a live homecoming album. The four weekend shows draw 49,000 fans, who convincingly refute any thought that ‘Memphis and Mid-South fans might not turn out to see one of their own.’ Elvis seems both happy and mildly amused to be here as he declares, ‘Hello Memphis. It’s good to be home.’ http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y48/elvis1959/Inmemphis.jpg 16 Mar 1974 Time: 2.30pm Venue:Mid-South Coliseum Memphis, TN.
