Another later indie landfill-ish song that springs to mind that I still play every now and then and was from 2008 as well!

I didn't realise they referred to 2000's indie music as landfill indie. I don't think it's a fair description. There was some good stuff and a lot of it still holds up well today.

This song was one of my favourites.

Landfill is absolutely the right term for some of this type of music, particularly from 2007 onwards. The success of so many of these bands in 04/05 meant labels were signing up all sorts of dross to significant record deals if they'd written one vaguely catchy hook, and the vast majority of these bands suffered a huge slump in quality in their follow-up albums.

Some of underrated gems from bands who unusually got more successful (and arguably better) over time

I remember the latter two haha!

To think there were nightclubs dedicated to this sound

There was this one too. A big hit from 06 and was ranked #1 of 50 greatest indie landfill songs (edit in the article Rich linked)

Could be some uncovered discoveries for some there too. Will give some of those a check soon tbh.

The Enemy had some decent tunes too, think they were among the last few remaining at that time along with the aforementioned 'Just For Tonight' by One Night Only the following year.

Just looking back through this thread. I heard Had Enough earlier and realised i've not heard that anywhere since really. Quite curious but similar chart runs their two big hits had, debuting just outside the top 50 on downloads I suppose, then jumping into the top 10 before diving to the bottom of the top 20 the week after and then lingering about for a while after that.

The festival near to where I grew up BARELY updated its lineup from when I used to go in the late 00s/early 10s.
