So what did you think of the mainly German production of Perfume: The Story of a Murderer?

did you like Dustin Hoffman doing his best Borscht Belt accent??? did you think that Ben Whishaw was completely out acted by the old timers? did you think it was up to the standards of Run Lola Run? or did you think that the film should have just been confined to the features of Eurotrash with other Armpit smelling Germanic fun?

I was totally captivated by it, marvellous film... Really vivid and evocative... I think to say Ben Wishaw was 'outacted' is incredibly unfair, he had the much more difficult role to play than either Hoffman or Rickman, they had the oppotunity to strut their Thespian stuff with very larger than life characters, Wishaw's role was infinitely more difficult and his performance vastly more measured... Wishaw was, in a very real sense, playing a 'non-character', there was no room for Thespian or Method grandstanding. He had to play a character who basically was a cipher, a 'nobody' in a very real sense... THAT takes real skill IMO...

Brilliant film, brilliant acting by all concerned, brilliant feat of direction and Cinematography.... One of the best films of 2006 for me....

I thought it was alright, think it would have been better just a lil bit shorter (agree with critic in the paper on that one). Cinematography was very good. however I still prefer Run Lola Run out of his films, bit more hyper. did you see the follow up? The Princess and the Warrior? I liked that film the second time i watched the DVD so probs will get this Perfume as well if its cheap.

suppose seeing as Apocalypto and Epic Movie* are coming out over the next few weeks maybe you can have it as your film of 2007 and hibernate until the summer

*then again talking of Epic Movie, maybe they will tackle Art House or Period Costume Drama Movies next. think there could be lots of fart jokes in a spoof of this

Perfume is a triumph - an absolutely BEAUTIFUL cinematic experience.

I loved how he tried to convey the sheer ecstasy the character felt from aromas... how he swept the air up to his nose and devoured every last scented particle of it.

Apart from Pan's Labyrinth, Perfume was last year's best movie in my humble opinion.

9/10

actually thought Pan's Labyrinth was ten times better. Perfume slightly too much like a 2 and a half hour Lynx advert

then maybe I would have liked Perfume more if it was actually shot in French or German (seeing as the films a French - German co-prod with Spain) rather than in English.

BTW have you ever played the English dub of Run Lola Run on the dvd???. Its shocking!!! :o
