October 12, 20231 yr Interesting, LadBaby’s sales last year suggest they’ve run right out of steam and won’t try again. They’re not going to beat Wham!/Mariah this year I don’t think plus the tide was starting to turn against them last year more than ever on social media so will they want to jeopardise a perfect run to just go 1-1-1-1-1-6 or worse? I’m not sure they will as people would have a field day, better to go out on top - if you can call it that after the effort it took to get there last year. But I also don’t see any ‘normal’ song overcoming Christmas, so my best guess for Christmas No.1 this year is Wham! 8/1 looks very generous to me. Edited October 12, 20231 yr by gooddelta
October 12, 20231 yr Generous odds for Wham! though not quite the 50/1 I got last year. Seems highly likely Ladbaby would fail and therefore won’t try. What’s behind Jvke and Sam being there?
October 12, 20231 yr Well hurrah if it's not Ladbaby now. Would rather a different Christmas track got to #1 though other than Mariah or Wham! as that could be the case every year now oops.
October 12, 20231 yr Generous odds for Wham! though not quite the 50/1 I got last year. Surprised Wham isn't 4/1 at most. Edited October 12, 20231 yr by TheSnake
October 12, 20231 yr Sidemen at 16/1 seems tempting, who knows if they're trying again but they got #3 last year with the campaign only really taking off midweek. The Beatles may be worth a bet on too as they're supposedly releasing 'one last song' this year thanks to A.I. being able to clean up an old John Lennon vocal recording. If they time it well, there could be some sort of campaign for them to equalise LadBaby's record again. I trust LadBaby won't try again this year now that they do have their record and given the big year-on-year sales collapse they had with 'Food Aid' , they must realise another #1 for them wouldn't be guaranteed now. Are Jvke and Sam Ryder confirmed for Xmas ad spots or something?
October 12, 20231 yr Based on the titles of his recent releases, I can only assume JVKE has a song called 'this is what christmas feels like'
October 12, 20231 yr I think it will probably take a few years in a row of Wham! or Mariah as Christmas No.1 for the OCC to consider that as a problem and do something about it e.g. double ACR. Never say never but unless some sort of viral moment or campaign can catch the public’s imagination, it’s going to be impossible for anything else to compete. I really miss the days of big pop acts releasing their big singles in December to go for gold, nowadays it’s like the music industry closes down for the year in mid November.
October 12, 20231 yr 'Golden Hour' would have made a perfect Christmas no.1 IMO but actually peaked in January. Assuming Jvke has something more festive.
October 12, 20231 yr I think the OCC may very well end up making a 'catalogue singles chart'* if that happens, or if Mr Brightside ends up being a top 40 presence whilst still on ACR – simply putting Christmas songs on "double ACR" isn't going to solve the issue. *as in, anything over 3 years old goes into the catalogue chart rather than the main chart except in certain circumstances where a reset is granted
October 12, 20231 yr I'm not sure about those odds, but Becky Hill hinted at releasing a drum and bass Christmas song.

A catalogue singles chart would make the Christmas charts obviously much more interesting, but also depressingly low sales I suppose and not at all representative of what the nation is listening to, so it would certainly be divisive. ------- As an aside, somebody pointed out elsewhere that 2003 and 2013 were the best years in their respective decades for new Christmas releases - The Darkness, Bo Selecta, Idols, Cliff, Cheeky Girls, Billy Mack and more in 2003, Leona and Kelly's modern classics in 2013, so hopefully 3 is the magic number and we get some good new ones this year. I'm still amazed that more of the really major artists don't release new Christmas songs, not just some of the throwaway covers we get from some artists but proper, new original songs with some effort behind them. Get it right and you've basically set up a pension fund for life and eternal relevance. Look at how well Ed and Elton's track has done over the last couple of years.
October 12, 20231 yr We will miss Ladbaby if Mariah and Wham are Xmas no1 every year. Anyone know what the Amazon exclusives are yet? It’s also interesting how people look back to their own Xmas era and wish for it to be like that such as anyone from the late 90s noughties era wants the years big pop acts to have big releases on Xmas week while those of us that are older want new Xmas songs to be no1!

In fairness we have had more Xmas efforts in the past 10 years than in the previous 15-20 years before that! Also if there was a catalog Xmas chart then the singles chart and Xmas no1 would maybe be more important again and big artists would release to get the no1 on December 25th again. October 12, 20231 yr I really hope Ladbaby aren’t Christmas no1 again. It’s getting too repetitive. Yes the songs are for a good cause but they are dreadful. An original Christmas song would be great this year instead!!
