That new era will just be Wham or Mariah by default unless there's another rule change.

 

Indeed. Just watch near Christmas charts from other countries in streaming era.

 

For sample # 1s in Netherlands.

 

2016 : Mariah (1 week at # 1)

2017 : local Dutch act (Mariah at # 3)

2018 : Mariah (1 week at # 1)

2019 : Mariah (1 week at # 1)

2020 : Mariah (4 weeks at # 1)

2021 : Mariah (1 week at # 1)

2022 : Mariah (3 weeks at # 1)

 

On original release peak position was # 5.

 

With the exception of UK Mariah's Christmas song already broke a record (or will do it in less than 5 years) with the most weeks at # 1 in any country, who had a solid charts history.

If The Beatles were to restore their joint record of most Christmas Number 1s with a return to the top for Here and Now, could LadBaby be tempted to return next year to get the outright record back?

So glad this era is over although I think the Christmas No1 died with X factor and hasn’t recovered since. As many of said it just means the same old Christmas songs will now be no1 every December for the rest of time unless they come up with a sensible chart rule to stop that happening.
