Forty years on from Madonna’s debut UK Top 10 hit, Radio 2 is celebrating the Queen of Pop’s amazing career in music by asking you to vote for Your Ultimate Madonna Song. February 1984 saw Madonna’s Holiday peak at No.6, her first ever appearance in the UK Official Singles Chart. According to the Official Charts Co. she’s since had over 60 Top 10 Hits, including 13 No.1s. Without doubt, one of the most successful artists in the history of music, she’s spent more than ten years (in accumulated weeks) in the UK Top 40. From Like A Virgin in December 1984 to Secret in August 1994, Madonna logged a run of 36 consecutive Top 10 hits – no artist has bettered that since. Take a Bow broke the run in December 1994. She had another run of 17 consecutive Top 10s from You Must Love Me in Feb 1996 until Me Against The Music in November 2003. But which songs are your favourites? January 2, 20241 yr Very surprised that Hung Up, La Isla Bonita and Frozen was not top 10!! I was surprised at how well Dear Jessie did considering it does not feature on an greatest hit compilation! Cherish also performed very well! Hanky Panky making the list was a surprise especially as Lucky Star, Give It To Me, and others didnt. January 2, 20241 yr Author I'd have put jump and celebration in there myself at the expense of Hanky panky and American pie which are both career low points let's be honest (pre 2010) for sure
January 3, 20241 yr I think Borderline being 6th was the biggest shock for me - I mean I absolutely love it personally but I didn’t think it was a huge fave of the general public.
