Best :

- Lithuania (Atranka)

- Sweden (Melodifestifalen) (most iconic and everybody's favourite pre-selection)

- United Kingdom (old NFs "A Song For Europe" from 70s and 80s were very good)

- Latvia (Eirodziesma) (very underated by fans)

- Estonia (Eesti Laul) (despite some very weird entires in almost every year)

Best: The Nordics and the Baltics are always worth checking out. Have also been enjoying Festival da Cancao the last few years.

 

Worst:

 

Ukraine (often good quality songs, but there is always drama)

Malta (usually too many songs and the winning song often doesn't end up being the entry anyway)

Germany (usually overly complicated and with low quality entries)

Italy (some quality entries, but virtually impossible for a woman to win or do well)

Not Portugal being the worst :kink:

been a while since I've managed to put any into regular rotation to watch live at least but UMK and Vidbir are my general go-to for quality.

 

Generally each country has the potential to have great songs and the worst ones are generally because of a format that's geared towards a talent show rather than a music show, e.g. just on average song quality, MESC and whatever trash the UK tries if they try it tend to be the worst ones. And any that are larger than they need to be and have a ton of boring no-hopers (often risking one of those winning).

My most favourites are gotta be among Norway, Ukraine and maybe Finland. Portugal is fast becoming my favourite too! Before you ask where Sweden is, NO

 

Amongst the weakest, I would say Moldova, Romania and Latvia. Both Moldova and Romania suffered a lot for longlisting a bunch of fillers which brought the quality down. Latvia just didn't really have a strong music industry. I think the last time I really liked a song coming from them is ANNNA (Patrisha was close too) (or the 2 wild card eliminated entries in 2022 :kink: ).
