It's up to the top spot for The Moody Blues, as the late Denny Laine fronts the classic Go Now! It's never charted before for me (though I did know it at the time, in 1964, exactly 59 years ago and therefore that now takes the record for the oldest record to get to number one in my charts, pipping Gigliola Cinquetti who took it last year, also from 1964. That means Denny Laine has been part of 2 chart-topping groups - he wasn't in the Nights In White Satin line-up that topped my chart in 1979 as an oldie on it's 3rd chart run, but he was in Wings who topped my charts 4 times, so it's his 5th in total. He doesn't, though, beat The Beatles' span of number one hits at 55 years.

Pet Shop Boy's add another top 5 to their very long list, Radiophonic at 4, Paloma Faith rockets into the top 20 for 2 in a row this year, while MisterWives get the highest climber at 28. For some reason ABBA singles from the 80's made the UK sales chart last week, and two of the best ones have never had a second chart run for me, so I've kicked out some ABBA songs that have had several runs, and entered Day Before You Came from 1982 at 43, which had a 6 week run on top for me. It spoke to me a lot at the time, but was amazingly not a big hit, everyone was moaning about how dull it was (wrongly). Blancmange agreed with me and had a bigger hit with an uptempo synth version in 1984. The other is One Of Us, topping my charts in December 1981 as we had a massive snow-bound sub-zero frozen blitz in Mansfield as I was frantically buying up as many classic 60s and 70's singles as I could afford from a big sale in our local record store, as they had a huge clear-out of more obscure stuff that hadn't sold-out.

One Of Us is also under-rated, as sad as their best records, but their final big hit. As unemployment was touching 3million, and times were gloomy (I was on the dole still too) it didn't go with the synth/New Romantic upbeat music of the time but did well anyway. Channel Tres gets a solo entry to add to his collab with Jungle on the chart, the low-key beats/rap are good despite the obligatory usual swear-words, The Knocks & SOFI TUKKER have a collab that's nicely poppy and catchy, and The Jesus And Mary Chain are back! Jamcod is their first new entry in nearly 30 years and extends their run to 38 years. Nice to have some more grunge-y distorted guitar (and synths) as well as Corinne Bailey-Rae who was recently doing the punk thing on Jools Holland.

Hi there John!

Nice to see "Mess It Up", "Worth It" and "Prada" gain big and the debut for "One On One".

Great chart!

Take care.

Hey John! :hi:

Story still top 5 :cheer: yay. Brilliant result so far.

That remix of hold on to now has really turned things around for the song. It's superb.

Woweeee that's a fantastic climb for bad woman. I really enjoy it but yes she's sadly past the days of having a hit which is a shame. Much like you said though, it's rare this far into your career to remain relevant. The main artist that does spring to mind is Taylor Swift but then that begs the question, his long dies she have ik the tank? She works tirelessly apparently.

Houdini peaking at #26 then? Maybe? Not bad I guess though I think I expected a little more.

Fab chart ^_^

Hi John. Hope all has been good with you. Have you been feeling all Christmassy yet? I've done the bare minimum myself. Apologies for missing last week's chart. I also see Grungerman made your chart last week! :o As Bre pointed out to me when I entered Girls In Love for BJSC, it appears there's the wrong credit on this. (As in, 'Grungerman & Forever Sweet' did a separate remix of it but doesn't appear to have anything else to do with this track. It's just Andreas Dorau on his own. I've no idea if that's available on itunes, but it would explain why you couldn't find it. I should change the credit on my chart, but I can't be bothered

Fantastic chart as always

Hey james! :)

Story has done as well as some chart-toppers this year for me, so pretty good overall. Taylor Swift fans are immensely loyal, she seems like a long-termer to me, maybe with ups and downs of chart fortune but she's very adaptable! Houdini was just pausing, Dua's back on the up again, expect that'll rebound in the New Year in the UK charts too,

thanks for the comments! B-)

Fantastic chart as always

Hi AH been a hectic busy and strange week for me, no worries about missing charts, I keep doing that too but next year no more work so I should be more regular bar holidays! So, no not feeling Christmassy at all yet, my last day in the office was quite sad and end of an era, a big change for me :o Sorry to hear you're being worked hard, it's become a stressful environment everywhere it seems, I know even more longtimers are bailing here and not being replaced. Something has to change, it's just no sustainable in the long run....!

Glad you rate Go Now, poor Denny Laine was always a quiet popstar, happy to be in the background. I wouldve charted some Wings stuff if it wasn't mostly really Macca's work, bar Mull Of Kintyre and a couple of others. You wre right about Chemical Brosthers, oops, it's peaked for me! Glasd you rate The Day Before You Came so highly, me too, though I need to be in the right mood as it's quite dark and subtle - yet also it's gloriously happy, which escapes most people, normally Abba lyrics are sad and the music upbeat or soaring, this one is the reverse, which makes it very touching.

Not heard the Cher extended no, but she's been plugging it admirably, she's not a young woman and works so hard! I think she now easily holds the singles chart lifespan record for a female with new material, and only just behind The Rolling Stones & The Beatles - and she's still not in the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame, that well known Rock Muso Boys Club.

Thanks for the Grungerman info (and Bre) I guess it's not a remix then as such, the original seems to be on itunes but it somehow sounded different from the BJSC version. I will have to recheck it!

Thanks as always for the support and have a Merry Christmas!
