2 Become 1 has warm childhood memories for me and still brings out those warm fuzzy feelings - a genuinely great Christmas pop song.

Always On My Mind is one of the all time great covers for me; that riff is just fabulous.

'Always On My Mind' a fab rendition of the Elvis original and better one by far for me.

'Mad World' another brilliant cover and a very moving one at that!

I actually first heard Mad World in the Donnie Darko film and it blew me away then on first hearing (not knowing the original). It’s a stunning version. And that’s still the best #1 battle that I’ve been conscious of in my lifetime.

Bohemian Rhapsody is a song by the British rock band Queen, released as the lead single from their fourth studio album, A Night at the Opera (1975). It is one of the few progressive rock songs of the 1970s to achieve widespread commercial success and appeal to a mainstream audience. Bohemian Rhapsody topped the UK Singles Chart for nine weeks (plus another five weeks following Freddie Mercury's death in 1991) and remains the UK's third best-selling single of all time. It also topped the charts in countries including Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, and the Netherlands, and sold over six million copies worldwide. Following the release of the 2018 biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, it became the most streamed song from the 20th century.

Ah there we go. Up where it was expected to be all along for Queen. Oops at 'These Are The Days Of Our Lives' bringing their first appearance of the main track down though oops.

Wow at that score jump go to the top 2! Bo Rhap not winning is quite the turn up but the winner is one of my absolute all time faves.

Thanks for running this Wardy - a great idea!

Don't You Want Me is a song by British synth-pop group the Human League. The band's best known and most commercially successful song, it was the best selling UK single of 1981,[4] that year's Christmas number one, and has since sold over 1,560,000 copies in the UK, making it the 23rd-most successful single in UK Singles Chart history. It ultimately became the biggest-selling single to be released in 1981, and the fifth biggest-selling single of the entire decade. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 in the US on 3 July 1982, where it stayed for three weeks. In 2015, the song was voted by the British public as the nation's seventh-favourite 1980s number one in a poll for ITV. And in 2022, Rolling Stone ranked it as one of the "200 Greatest Dance Songs of All Time".

Believe it or not the Elvis version is not the original - Gwen McCrae did the first version, then Brenda Lee had a hit with it. Both a few months before Elvis released it.

Thanks to everyone who took part and made this a fun event to run this year! ^_^

Congratulations I guess to a non-festive song, but by far a popular one, by Human League! :cheer:

Believe it or not the Elvis version is not the original - Gwen McCrae did the first version, then Brenda Lee had a hit with it. Both a few months before Elvis released it.

Oh right. That's fascinating especially Brenda Lee releasing a version before Elvis!

Great winner and can't compain with the top 5 too much

Wow, that top 2 really ran away with it but fully deserved and most of that top 10 were in my votes, Shaky, Spices and Wham are a bit too overplayed so missed out but I get their appeal, and pleased that Mad World & Sound of the Underground are recognised as rightful frontrunners of the otherwise pretty terminally awful 21st Century selection.

Thanks for running this and posting results so speedily!

Same top 3 as my votes but with the top 2 switched. 'Bohemian Rhapsody' is a huge favourite of mine, but great for 'Don't You Want Me' to get its moment. A rare case of a future classic being the biggest song at the time, with that time also being Christmas.

Thanks for running this Wardy!

Disappointed that Mud and Perfect (yes I know) didn’t do better, but overall a relatively solid result.

Thanks for hosting Awardinary!

I am absolutely GAGGED that came first!!! I'm actually shocked that a 1980s pop sang has ran away with it, and on buzzjack, which tends to like.modern bops!!! Apart from not changing the channel when it's o gta radio, I don't listen to it at all!!! My winner is Girls Aloud or Spicy Lady. Bob could also have won for me, after dentin Westshite a no.1.
