A new thread series to discuss the best chart misses of the year.

Starting with the year 2000, what chart misses do you remember from this time and why do you remember them fondly? These could be songs that failed to make the UK Top 40 Singles Chart, or even the Top 75, but they have to have been released as a single at some point during the year.

So to get the ball rolling, I will throw a nomination for 2000 to a recent song contest medalist The Nightfly by Blank & Jones that peaked at #55 in September 2000.

No Doubt - Simple Kind Of Life (# 69)

My favourite No Doubt song.

Chartrun : 4-5-4-3-5-5-4-2-1-1-1-3-6-11-16-19-25-29

Tricia Penrose - Don't Want To Be Alone (# 44)

Kinobe - 'Slip Into Something More Comfortable' is a pretty lush chillout song from 2000! Sadly it didn't touch the top 75 at all.

A Eurodance classic! Similiar bassline to King of My Castle, was huge in Europe, including No.1 in Germany, but only peaked at No.44 here in 2000.

The final single from Precious, not such a new beginning for them sadly, this deserved WAY better than No.50, I remember my friend bought me the CD single for Christmas that year <3

I don't know any from 2000 that missed top 40. Apart from this one:

Which went top 10 in 2003 in a remixed form. I much prefer the remix.

I know quite a lot of top 40 hits though that are now largely forgotten from 2000.

Oh just remembered Gigi D'Agostino of course

Maybe too cheesy to be a hit in the UK in 2000 originally but was a hit all over Europe.

I cant wait until you reach the 2010s with this though because I know quite a few Radio 1 playlist songs that didn't go top 40 from that era onwards.

Ngl did struggle to find any from 2000 but this one is familiar as it was in BJSC I think?

Sounds like something that'd be at least a top 30 hit if not higher!

I knew this song well from my sister being a fan of it but I was very surprised to discover a while back that a) it got all the way to #1 in the US (I must have seen it in a list of Hot 100 #1s but never realised it was this song) and b) it didn't even go top 40 here (peaking at #42)! Banger though x

My favourite No Doubt song.

My favorite No Doubt song too! I had no clue / can't believe it charted that low in the UK :cry:

Too cheesy for 2000? I really don't think so :lol:

I'll be able to come up with a list for this later!

This is the only L'amour Toujours I knew. The 'proper' hit in 2018 was just a stolen 2012 big room song turned into slap house.

Random girl groups were popping up all over the place in 2000 and this was a hilariously naff effort by “Fe-m@il”, the embracers of cool newfangled technology. It missed the Top 40 but somehow made it onto a Now! album.

Indeed they were, and here are three other examples that failed to impact the Top 40 with these single choices;

Sweet Female Attitude – 8 Days A Week {peaked at #43}

Made In London – Shut Your Mouth {peaked at #74}

Kick Angel – Misunderstood {peaked at #79}

I remember this appeared on that particular Now! album before the single was released, they must have somehow thought this was going to be a hit or something :lol:

I heard a rumour that it was a label ’deal’ - ‘we’ll give you artist X but you have to include Fe-m@il too’ - not sure how true that is! Although I can’t remember if the song flopped before or after it appeared on Now. I wonder if this explains Kerri-Ann on Now 40 too.
