Time for 2004. Not as busy as other years for girl groups but the year saw the rise and fall of The 411, though they left us with 3 great singles. Destiny's Child returned for their final album, a year after Beyonce and Kelly launched successful solo careers. It wasn't quite Survivor successful but it did spawn three top 10 hits including the massive #2 hit Lose My Breath. Girls Aloud returned for their second album and it proved more successful than their debut, despite a #6 peak.

Destiny Fulfilled

Lose My Breath (top 5 greatest girl group songs ever imo)

Dumb (stellar song!)

Girl (don't care for any of these three much tbh - but don't particularly dislike any of them)

- Girls Aloud - What Will The Neighbours Say?

- Girls Aloud - The Show (although could have just have easily gone for 'Lose My Breath', they're probably about equal for me.

- The 411 - Dumb

- The 411 - Teardrops

'Teardrops' so did not deserve to flop as it did, although that was a particularly brutal week which involved both Avril and Anastacia also crashing in the mid-20s.

It should have been another top 10 for them. They had so much potential as a group, almost like the successors to All Saints.

It's a bit unfortunate really, things looked so hopeful for them with two top 5s under their belt. Then 'Teardrops' (undeservedly) crashed in at #23, the album missed the top 40 off the back of it and that was the last we heard of them :(

Crazy really how cutthroat the industry was back then. Even GA were lucky to get a second album despite scoring 4 top 3 hits.

Almost a full sweep for DC for me (apart from Dumb for 2nd single)

Girls Aloud - What Will the Neighbours Say?

Girls Aloud had the best era overall but Lose My Breath and Soldier were 10/10 singles for me so both got my vote

A Girls Aloud clean sweep for me but 'Dumb' did run 'Love Machine' close and I do really like 'Lose My Breath' as well. I wasn't too enthusiastic about any of the 3rd single picks oops.

It has been a pleasure to revisit What Will the Neighbours Say? recently with the reissue

Girls Aloud

The Show

Dumb

Teardrops (by default, don't care for any of these)

Dumb > The Show > Lose My Breath > Love Machine >>> the rest

Again not heard the albums per se but GA for the era one.

Lose My Breath

Love Machine

and Teardrops for last but can't say I like any of those oops.

What Will the Neighbours Say?

Lose My Breath

Dumb

I’ll Stand by You

Girls Aloud

Girls Aloud

The 411
