June 7, 20241 yr Whilst in normal cases the MTS is a bit cringe.. Enimem has made a career out of this stuff, so I'd hardly say he's jumping on a bandwagon. Just crazy how so many acts struggle, but Eminem comes back time and time again! Not his biggest fan, but that's some impact.
June 7, 20241 yr Eminem's kinda lost the ability to shock, he's no longer coming from an outsider's position, this is all expected and tbh it's all cancellable shit, it's not defendable, just the same as it ever was, that doesn't mean the work itself is ideologically corrupted. fwiw I like the musical callbacks he's done here, it's got a number of nods to his past glories while also feeling new and shiny, enjoyable to listen to on the whole.
June 7, 20241 yr I think this is probably the best thing he's done in a while, which isn't saying much as I haven't really liked a song of his in years, but I grew up with 2000s Eminem so I always welcome a comeback to that sound, granted it does just want to make me listen to Without Me, which was way better. I found the controversial lyrics eye roll worthy at best, he is the original troll and made a career off of this stuff and is still trying to do it now, yet it just doesn't work as well, The Marshall Mathers LP is so much more shocking all those years later. Him referencing the 2017 Manchester Arena bombings and Stephen Paddocks from the Las Vegas shooting on his last album felt way worse than anything here. I don't really think that's the reason the song's doing well anyway asides from getting people talking, 2000s nostalgia is very popular and the sample's very recognisable, plus the reluctance for radios to get on board will likely just drive more interest.
June 8, 20241 yr A little it's made it's debut at number 2 here in Ireland as I sure it would go number 1.
