So it just missed out by 1 vote :o It was the song that propelled Shakira into the global market and is a future classic I think. The song is so infectious and catchy, I remember in 2002 when all you heard was "Whenever! Wherever!" Good memories!

Which means at #1 we have...

So technically this is the winner. However, it was extremely close and I think there may have been some people who voted for the wrong song because I did things backwards and made it vote for your "least" favourite. So I think really, this should be called a draw.

 

However, I did vote for Hips Don't Lie to win so I'm not disappointed. Despite all the criticism this song gets "it's rubbish, it's a sell-out" etc etc... I can't help but love it. Like in the summer of 2002, this year all I've heard is "I'm on tonight!" I don't believe anyone who doesn't have fun dancing to this song, whatever they might say about it.

 

It may not be as good musically or lyrically to her other songs, but I still think it's worthy of Shakira's Best Single just because of everything she has acheived with this song.

I agree with what you say about HDL, it was so awesome in the summer when all you heard was that and it was the first UK #1 and achieved so much. mabye not musically, but in terms of what it achieved for her it truly is a great song.

 

WW is a classic, its a song that everyone knows, and if it wasnt for that song I may not have heard of her :wub:

as i thought my favourite shakira song is at #2 i can't sing the praises of whenever wherever enough!! an epic of a song, its anthemic it pulsates like a chugging train or is it like galloping of wild horses with rare and unusual fusion elements a blend of latin rhythms and middle east-influenced instrumentation, who'd have thought pan pipes could sound cool in a pop song!?

 

then comes the subject matter another song about antonio and she gives us an insight into their relationship and how he has to accompany her wherever she goes, she leads he follows but she is at his feet, equals no one dominates the relationship, they both make a commitment to each other its beautiful and poetic!! thats their deal my dear

 

also love the visual imagery shakira conjures up in the lyrics my favourite is a fountain spilling kisses! the ultimate feel good song by shakira! i'm sure in years to come it will be seem as one of the best pop songs of all time
