Yep, and if the Christmas streams don't skyrocket to outer space (which they should considering the bigger number of people allegedly streaming right now) it's very interesting. The daily streams at the top of the charts have almost doubled in a year.

If streaming growth stays at this pace, the charts are going to be chaos with all the Xmas songs dominating (even more than usual) from Nov 1st.

Hopefully the Christmas classics will just do their usual numbers and the current hits will continue to do big numbers, meaning the chart is slightly less Christmas song dominated.

If they don’t then I’ll assume there’s some trickery at play here. I don’t expect them to grow very much, if they did grow in line with everything else we should be seeing Wham! and Mariah getting over 5m on Christmas Day

That doesn't seem likely to me, there are a lot of big hits around at the moment but overall Spotify numbers are probably only up what, 10% on last year? Xmas songs aren't like current hits, they get huge streams because virtually everyone is listening to them, including those who aren't interested in chart music. Perhaps the big numbers at the top indicate a change in the general public's listening habits but I'd be surprised if that translates to Christmas.

Anyway, hopefully it means we can get a big hit in December which prevents Wham inevitably hogging the top spot for the whole month

Is the current situation with high streams at the top end really that different from, say, 2019? Could it be that this is the norm and the 2020-2023 period was an extended anomaly beginning with Covid and not really recovering until now?

Exactly what I was thinking

A good way to look at this is the number of songs that surpassed 50 million streams each year on Spotify in the UK:

2019: 20

2020: 14

2021: 10

2022: 9

2023: 15

I will concede that this year the number is likely to be above 20 and probably more likely ~25 - However the size of the increase is exaggerated by the poor performance at the top of the chart across the past 4 years

what you talking about 2019? The regular #1 was doing 500K tops, and same in 2017-2018

the situation was exactly the same as in the 2020-2023

lol that's why Spotify has an archive, go check

this has changed and was never like this before. Now we have 2/3 songs close to 1 million, 10 songs over 500K

in the past we were lucky to have one song over 500K, imagine having 10 like we have now

many #1s were doing 350K daily tops on average, nowhere close to 1 million

OK maybe I’m thinking more in chart sales than Spotify streams but if you look at weekly #1 sales (and the sales for a typical Top 10 for that matter) they were way higher in 2019 than in most of 2020 to 2023. 2024 numbers don’t look all that dissimilar to that, especially bearing in mind that the overall streaming market has been growing for 5 years.
Why is Charli's 'Talk Talk' up 52 places to #69? Does it have playlisting somewhere?

Tinashe added to Hot Hits UK!

I think autoplay. I've had "Talk Talk" pop up for me the last day or so. Really like it so have added to my general playlist too!

I don’t think so but I do think it could block Birds Of A Feather from the Top 3. :arrr:

For the briefest of seconds somewhere along the road the thought crossed my mind that as Eminem and Espresso faded more, this might get enough of a boost to clinch a #1. Oh well. Delighted to see it still doing so well anyway.

Looks like Please x3 is undoubtedly going to the top now, although Espresso is more likely to get back there for this week first. As individual songs, I think Espresso is miles superior but will be nice to see the turnover at the top of the chart continue.

'because i liked a boy' debuting

I'm so happy for the success Sabrina is seeing. She deserves it so much!

Can’t wait to see how well Sabrina’s Xmas songs do this December, hopefully be much higher on the playlists and get into the top 20/40!
'Feather' coming for a reset?

No chance. Would have to be up a lot more I think

'Feather' was actually down on its numbers from the same day last week until yesterday but it does seem to be racing ahead now (today it's up ~22% week on week). If it keeps that momentum going it might just about get a reset next week but can't see it this week. (Let's not though please, and let's even more not entertain the possibility of her godawful Christmas songs taking off x)

I've not listened to 'Please Please Please' yet and do not exactly have high hopes for it but really remarkable how much she's blown up in the past couple of months, so far into her career as well (I had to double take when I first read that her upcoming album is her 6th!)

Omg I didn't think of that, can't wait for "Santa doesn't know you like I do" to be a future classic 🥰🥰🥰

If Sabrina gets the top 2 next week - when was the last time this happened with 2 singles outside of an album release week?

I know we’re used to an influx from big albums but there can’t be that many outside of those big release weeks?

(There’s probably going to be something recent that’s slipped my mind :D)
