Excerpt from nationmaster encyclopaedia Steve Lillywhite entry.

In 2002, Universal boss Lucian Grainge invited him to become a major-label Managing Director. Lillywhite promptly signed singer-songwriter Darius Danesh and exec produced Darius' debut platinum-selling album "Dive In", which spawned 4 top ten hits and Mercury Records' first number one in 18 years.* Universal Music Group (UMG), formerly MCA Music Entertainment (see Music Corporation of America), is the largest major label in the record industry. ... Darius Danesh, singer & songwriter. ... Mercury Records was a record label founded in Chicago, Illinois in 1945 by Irving Green, Berle Adams and Arthur Talmadge. ...

* Can this possibly be true. Seems very unlikely to me.

I remember Steve Lillyuwhite saying something like that in a TV interview. It's funny that Mercury started in Chicago and D's first West End performance was in 'Chicago'. A nice little connection
did anyone find out more about this Afterlife film, I keep seeing it on DVD sites when browsing and seeing Darius' name on the credits as himself, and for the song colourblind.

Sorry PIP never heard of it!

It was the film that Paula Sage starred in Pip, she likes Darius - do you remember her from the Scot Awards? - the articles in these links will probably help jog your memory:

and this one from Nina's Darius world - can't seem to link directly to the exact article alone - so, I'll copy the article here instead

DARIUS: I'm Touched Paula Picked My Song ...

I Was Just the Guy with the Guitar

Sunday Mail 7 November 2004

It was the moment that summed up the Great Scot Awards 2004.

There wasn't a dry eye in the house as actress Paula Sage, who has Down's Syndrome, performed Colourblind on stage with Darius.

Paula 24 of Cumbemauld, near Glasgow, sang the track in the movie Afterlife and happily did a repeat performance with her favourite pop star.

Darius revealed "Paula has been through so many struggles. I am truly touched she picked my song. Paula is a real star. She is the one who made the audience give us a standing ovation, I was just the guy with the guitar."

For Paula, who won an Unsung Hero award, the admiration was mutual. Hugging Darius, she joked: "This is me and my man. I am chuffed to bits with this award and I've been a massive fan of Darius for ages - he's made my night."

A bit more about Paula and the film HERE

It was first released on Scottish TV - but there's was a DVD released - Amazon

It might be a great film I've never watched it, so I don't know what I'd think about it really, - from reading about the storyline though, it seems like it has hard-edged-emotive story content, so in that respect maybe people have likened it to Trainspotting? :)

It was widely reported that at the same Great Scot Awards, Darius persuaded the producer of River City, a popular soap set in Glasgow to add Paula to their cast. A part was written and she was fantastic in it; a real success.

It's interesting to see how people use his songs. They're here rather on the youtube thread because it's not Darius.

Also, tiny excerpt from a blog from the Philippines.

darius danesh tracks...my favorites at the moment!

Just a few Darius Danesh tracks which I am in...like with! Lol! I wuv the tracks and...well...just check 'em out...they'll be here for 7 days...from now.

Darius Danesh - Incredible

This song, I have to say, I love. I dunno why but I think I'm very pop-ey these days...who wouldn't be when you hear this song?! Darius is the same who's responsible for 'Colourblind'. Funny thing, I just realized I've been hearing 'Colourblind' in some commercials...such as close up's...and they've been playing it in some tv programs here.

First India, now Philippines....does Colourblind come round every 4 years like the World Cup or the Olympics?

I am not too sure about the cartoons, but the music wa great  Thanks BT :) How did you find that first one, as Live Twice and Darius didn't seem to be mentioned on it?

:D AWE - I love the cartoons and especially what they've done with them - lovely to hear about all the other stuff related to Darius's music too - lol! - I hope he's getting his music aired here and there more than once every four years anyway  - it's all good stuff though - nice find! ... you're still hiding your discoveries away in bits and pieces though - I'm still not getting the reason for tucking all your finds into here me

Darius was on Channel Five news the other day, talking about Chicago, and his album.

and was evidently number 6 in Chicos top reality talent show singles chart on Smash hits.

I'm sorry I missed those, Preston.

Ian Kelsey was on the BBC breakfast show today talking about taking over as Billy Flynn. He's an experienced actor of ten years standing and he started out in the West End, playing Danny in Grease for eighteen months so I was struck when he spoke about how complex a role Billy Flynn is.

Welcome back baytree. It would have been nice had Ian kelsey said he was taking over from D.

Thanks pip and Preston. It's nice to be back.

Tbh, I don't remember Darius ever mentioning Terence Maynard whom he took over from. I don't think he had the opportunity, even if he'd wanted to do it, because the interviewers tended to say in advance it was a role played by Richard Gere in the film. Marti Pellow was sometimes mentioned by them too because he's a fellow Scot.

The only reason I watched was because I thought they were doing the interview at the theatre ....I hoped I might glimpse Darius. In fact the only video footage used in the segment was a clip from Casualty.

I just thought it was interesting that such a long standing actor as Kelsey viewed it as a complex part and for me, that just underlined what an enormous challenge Darius set himself by taking it on in the first place.

I can't wait to see Darius on stage again this weekend. During the first run I never tired of seeing the show because D's performance was slightly different every time..... perhaps down to experience or the cast around him changing. He was charismatic and word perfect first night and he sustained his Chicago accent well but each time I went after that, Darius himself seemed to get better and better in the role, especially the comedic aspects.

Hi Baytree welcome back hope you had a good holiday.

Wait till you see Darius this time in my opinion he was even better than the last time I went. He was so natural and relaxed. :D

Have a great time all that are going on Saturday I will be thinking about you all :D
