I dropped into Borders today to get a copy of GWTW and there was 1 in store according to their computer but it wasn't on the shelf. THey've ordered 10 more but they don't have a clue when they'll be in.

They had loads of copies of Rhett's People so I bought it instead. First chapter and he's fighting a duel!

I got mine from Amazon. I wanted to get the BBC 'Sense and Sensitivity' for Mum for Easter anyway. Not so many calories as chocolate. If I catch her trying to eat it though, she'll be in trouble.

I'm up to Chapter 11. I'm a quick reader, always have been.

It's actually called Rhett Butler's People. It's OK so far.

Rachel on .net says the book is going to be re-issued. The front cover has 'Now a new West End Stage production' I wish I'd waited. Still, the books isn't out until 4th April and that'd be a long time to wait.
I am a bit worried that general public will expect the show to be like the film.due t fact that trevor nunn directed les miserables am expecting it to be dark. Sound of music has got away with comparisons to the film but is lighter vein and appeals scross the board age wise.I know les mis has done well, saw it on broadway loved the music but found it sombre production wise and this musicwriter is an unknown quantity compared to ALW. There doesnt seem to be much publicity for it so far.

Those who follow theatre have known since it was first announced that it would not be a re-make of the film. I haven't read the book so I don't know how very different it is from the film.

It can't be all dark and miserable. I cannot see how they can portray the South without showing the sumptuousness of their lives before the Civil War.

However there are sure to be people who will be upset if they do not see familiar scenes from the film. There were posts on Wos moaning about Chicago because the stage version was so different. Those people don't realise that you can do things in films and TV which are impossible to do on stage. You actually have to use your imagination sometimes in a theatre just as you do reading a book.

The lack of publicity is worryingand the website is plain boring. I think maybe they thought the show would sell itself on its name only and tbh I think it would have - on Broadway!

I don't know why Margaret Martin wanted to premiere it in London but I'm glad she did. Maybe she didn'twant it to get revised and turn out like a carbon copy of the film. I bet an American producer or director wouldn't have cast his net beyond Broadway itself for Scarlett and Rhett. We'd have had to settle for the 3rd album and seeing Darius on the silver screen instead.

I am so glad it's not going to be like the film. I've never been able to watch the film, a few minutes at a time was more than enough. It's one I really didn't like. I managed to read the book when I was about 12 but, can't remember a lot about it. I'd rather have dark. I'll read the book again (when I get it ). Hopefully, that'll make it easier to picture. I do realise that they couldn't squeeze a whole book onto a stage. I'll have to wait until it opens to see that.

I really do think that one thing which might settle a few nerves would be to release some clips of a couple of songs.

People know what to expect from a new ALW, or Schonberg/Boubil. They haven't a clue about GWTW.s sound because Margaret Martin's new composer who does not apparently have a background in music.

I wonder what Darius and Jill Paice will sound like in a duet. I've listened to a few of her clips and she has a high voice whereas Darius is a baritone.

Surely they won't make him sing way up his range? He can do it and still sound strong as we all know, but IMHO a tenor's voice wouldn't sound right coming out of the macho Rhett.
