I watched that too, Preston - wasn't it lovely hearing 'Darius' mentioned nearly every 5 minutes for two hours!! :D Also, the other suspect, 'Rosie' was a 'Popstars Darius lookalike'!!

Julie

P.S. I didn't know that Darius and Natasha had visited the CSI set - I wonder why!!? Did you see that Holly Valance appeared in another episode the other night!!?

Holly was the murder victim in something but I don't know if it was CSI. There are so many of these programmes that seem to be much the same I get confused. She was of course an actress first. She was in Neighbours when I used to watch it. Her character was called Flick Scully. I've always like Holly. It's such a shame her second album was totally ignored over here because it was really good.

Do you know where to find any pictures of D & N on the set?

Im not sure but I think the series where Holly vallance played a victim was Prison Break. The pictures of Darius and Natasha on the set of C.S.I was on one of the photography sites like wire image, rex features, getty images etc. It was sometime last year I think.

thanks for those links BP - it's odd reading that interview - so much has happened since then, and they were right the HMBOMT bit was the only one genuine bit of pop culture history, and what everyone remembers.

and as a long standing, and open admirer of the goatee - that quiz shows Darius as having one of the finest - Johnny Depp wears one well - but not as good as Darius.

The article reads to me like one written by a journalist who didn't watch the show but only caught the edited highlights after the media storm broke.

He makes it sound as if Darius had one audition which he failed like the no-hopers who are seen in the early auditions of reality talent shows now and then got all uppity and stroppy, declaring he had a gift and that he would succeed. A 5 minute affair and out the door.

I bet he'd never seen the straight cover of HMBOMT which D sang in Glasgow - his voice was very strong and rich -, nor heard him harmonising in the groups, helping others with their songs, supporting everybody when they were all exhausted and tense. Never heard the praise that Nigel gave D throughout and after he'd decided not to put him through to the group nor listened to any of D's original songs including Darius's Farewell, which he sang on Popstars.

too many people have only seen the biits after the show had ended - and base all they know on those few edited down bits. the audition he did for HMBOMT when they just wouldn't let him end was really good to be honest, I loved the way he kept looking at the camera man thrusting the camera in his face every time he thought he could end, but carrying on. it was so blatently obvious he did the re arrangement of it much later in the show when he realised they werent going to let anyone do anything original and that it was going to be his last show(lets face it he knew all the time he wasnt going to be in the band, as did the judges)

I know I shouldn't really be discussing Holly Valance in D's Forum, but just to bring the subject to conclusion - she was in a few episodes of Prison Break (and may be in the next series!), she played a murder victim in a CSI episode and had a bigger part in an episode shown the other night. Also, according to one of the Sunday supplements last week, she has gained one of the lead female roles in a film (can't remember the name, but I think a spy thriller!!) which is due for release in September, I think. Moving to the US certainly does not seem to have been a bad move for her!! :D

Julie

Moving to the US seems to have been a good move for Cat deeley also, reported in todays papers she has bought Marilyn monroes house in hollywood for 2 million.
Thanks madame cholet. I sometimes wonder why we cant get glimpses from american mags if we knew what they were. They surely would portray natasha at some time or other.

Do you believe in Rumpology- the art of reading bums? I've always dismissed it as great fun but a load of codswallop. Now, well I just don't know.

On Terry and Gabi in 2003, the prediction for Darius was that he would have his own studio in three years time and ....................according to his latest message, the boy has gone and done just that.

It's so exciting! He can draw on all that thirst for learning all the technical details and the skills and tips he's learned from working with so many great producers and songwriters, all with very different ideas. Any sound that inspires him, any words that come to him can be recorded right away. More than ever I can't wait for Darius's 3rd album.

Knowing Darius, he would have been right in there overseeing every tiny detail setting up his studio. That may explain why we haven't been getting pictures of him out and about in LA. True I'd like to see some pics occasionally because you know what they say about all work and no play.

I don't think I've ever read this article before. It's from just before Live and Loud 2001 i.e BPI before Pop Idol.

I like the tone. It's taking the mickey out of him but isn't downright vicious just for the sake of it.

I've just noticed this part of the above interview.

" "I've got my own songs, but I can't sing one for you just now because the lawyers and the copyrighters are still doing their thing""

So Darius! He was just 20 but the boy had his head screwed on the right way and was aware of legally binding matters before the two Simons put their little PI contract in front of him. It's said he got away with refusing to sign certain clauses and I believe it.

Meant to post this earlier.

Nice little pic that was with an article about Booth settling his long running case.

I'm glad it all worked out amicably and that someone else may not have to do the same now that the Health Board are going to review their procedures.

A lesser man would have let it slide.

It's not hard to figure out where Darius gets his stamina and determination to see things through from.

Daniel O’Donnell – Can You Feel The Love - interesting title.

Just noticed this on the release schedule. Anyone know if it's an original song or a cover? I'm guessing it's an MOR song given that it's Daniel but I've never heard it so I could be completely wrong.

Getting back to Holly valance, she seems to be getting parts in hollywood after some while of being quiet, perhaps thats how it works. I believe she is in a thing on sunday nights could it be entourage.Canyou feel the love tonite is it the elton john one from lion king or have I got that title wrong.

'X-Factor Scots the MacDonald Brothers have revealed they don't want to win the TV show. The Ayrshire duo, Craig and Brian told dad, Jim, they would prefer to land second or third.

Jim, 59, of Alloway, said Craig, 21, and Brian, 20, want to copy the success of Scots crooner, Darius and have successful careers when the show ends.........

They are really grateful for the opportunity, but the people who have won don't seem to have had much of a career afterwards. It's the ones who don't win who do well - like Darius. That's what Craig and Brian want........... '

There are not many duos specialising in close harmony around so there is probably a gap in the market.

It depends what they do with the opportunity.

They will fail if they just become pretend Everley Brothers, Simon and Garfunkel, Robson and Jerome etc regurgitating standards and hits from other eras. They will become "dining party audio wallpaper" and get no respect, no matter how successful they are.

Simon and Garfunkel were great because they were innovative songwriters. That's the kind of duo we could do with. People have poked fun at the MacDs and likened them to the Proclaimers. The latter may sound funny with their strong East Coast accents but they too write from the heart.

Trusting in one's own talent while taking advice on board from more experienced practitioners is the Darius way but do the MacDs have the stomach for that?

"Doing a Darius" is not as easy as he made it look. It's about going out on a limb and not being complacent when success finally arrives but instead seeking the next challenge. It's about taking risks at times when your critics are at their fiercest.

There is no doubt that Darius's dogged determination to succeed on his own terms has inspired hundreds of people but if the MacDs don't win the X Factor, IMHO they definitely should not do what Darius (and Lemar) did i.e. disappear from the public consciousness, let the fuss from the programme die down and then return to the scene six months later.

That tactic has not worked for any of the runners up in later PI, FA or X Factor. The MacDs' best chance will be to get signed immediately and get a single/album out as early as possible. There Darius is a good role model for caution - make sure they know exactly what they're signing and at the eleventh hour be prepared to put the pen down and walk away rather than sign up to something which is too restrictive.

If they don't get signed immediately, then until they get a contract that suits them they should get down to gigging anywhere and everywhere to build a bigger fanbase and experiment with new sounds and songs until they can get the backing from a record company who are ready to let them be themselves and develop their own sounds.

Who knows, perhaps it isn't D's determination to create and control his artistic input that they aspire to. Maybe it's the tabloid side of his life they want - the fame and fortune, parties and premieres, model girlfriends, being "papped" - in short, the glamorous Hollywood lifestyle - a "performance" social ritual for celebrities, a genie which has to be returned to its bottle before it takes over one's life.

Darius has been more successful than many at keeping a balance in his life by hanging on to his very traditional personal values which are often totally at odds with what the media expect/encourage in celebrities. It takes courage to say no when temptation is always there. Perhaps with Darius's example, other people like the MacDs, who are suddenly thrust into a bewilderingly different experience will be able to step back, take a breath and work out how to keep the balance in their own lives.

"Don't Forget To Breathe" but "Dive In" anyway! That's the Darius way. If some things don't go as planned don't sit about moaning: work out why and learn from it. "No regrets, just experience"
