Hi Preston. I also saw Starlight Express recently. I was very disappointed that

there were no memorable tunes to hum afterwards. Fast and furious action and

superb costumes, but no outstanding musical numbers.

That's how I found it in the West End. All mouth and no trousers. I suppose I'd have liked it better if I'd had a thing for roller skates

But I bet you didn't have to put on safety goggles!!!!!!!!

No I didn't. The kids loved the fast action but couldn't remember the songs either.

That must have made you feel so safe - having to wear goggles.

Hi Bramley and meg - all mouth and no trousers is a good description for starlight express - nondescript tunes and it was absolutely deafoning. I also thought that a lot of the chorus work was on tape as it seemed that the voices sounded louder and more voices than actually appeared on stage. I wasnt alone in this as my friend hated it also.

I do think it's good for young kids though - the speed and noise catches them. It's a shame that it's a musical where that's the main attraction.

In the West End show the skaters coming out into the audience area must have

been quite impressive.

Instead of this we had a screen, lots of strobe lighting and [because of the special

goggles provided] 3D images.

That's be worse. It's the fact that the skaters DID come over the audience that the kids liked. That seemed to be the whole idea of a mediocre show.

When we booked we expected the skaters to come out into the audience area.

I suppose the equipment needed was too much for the touring show. I think the

show was cashing in on the London show, but couldn't provide the goods. We

were very disappointed.

What a shame.

My daughter and I loved it when we saw it in the West End....just goes to show we all have different tastes...even if sometimes we like the same thing :D

Have any of you been to see Cats?

It is on at the Empire not sure if to go or to save my money for seeing Darius.

I saw cats at plymouth a few years ago. Wonderful songs but its not really a story if you know what i mean, good singing and wonderful dancing, its what its title says its about cats. I think bonnie langford was in it when I saw it. Great for the music alone and the dancing. It was on here at Torquay this summer produced by David Ian the judge on Joseph on TV and it broke all records here.

It's a musical I've always had in mind to see but never actually booked for. What has made me think again is exactly what you said - no real plot.

Of course I read MacCavity(?) at school but I know nothing of the other characters. I've never been convinced by people in animal costumes so I've also hummed and hawed over the Lion King. I thought the original film was charming.

Well maybe I'll give it a go if I can catch it in Glasgow or Edinburgh. I think the songs are quite fun.
