June 20, 20241 yr Oh gawwwd! I keep forgetting I’m watching a few minutes behind when I enter this thread.
June 20, 20241 yr The pitch is terrible which doesn't help, but classic Southgate tactics. Thought we started well, even game, got the goal, then we set up in a low block. None of these players play in a low block for the most part, which is stupid tactics. Foden, Bellingham and Kane all want the same space. Bellingham is having a shocker too. Denmark playing well, but we let them play well. It's like watching prime Stoke City.
June 20, 20241 yr No control of the game again. I think today will be the last we see of Alexander-Arnold in the midfield now. Our midfields are passengers at the moment. I think Alexander-Arnold & Foden should both be taken off and Wharton & Eze coming on.
June 20, 20241 yr Played like a championship team since the goal. Get Foden off, he's clearly trying to win the game on his own.
June 20, 20241 yr I think England were poor before the goal honestly. Southgate’s motto is if its broke then don't fix it so I don't expect any changes for awhile otherwise Trent has to be off and Foden probably too, do we not have an LB who isn't some converted CB or RB? Why would you have no backup to the perpetually unfit luke Shaw. Southgate depresses me so much Edited June 20, 20241 yr by Liam sota

I think Alexander-Arnold & Foden should both be taken off and Wharton & Eze coming on. It's shit coaching from Southgate. You want Trent further back, he's the best right back on the pitch. Instead he's playing with his back to goal, with no idea what to do. Then you have Foden coming in field, so there's so switch in. Trent is the best passer we have by far, but he's totally wasted in this set up. Just bizzare really, there's so runners so as much as I love Trent, this tactical set up does not suit him. He's quite good defensively tho. Just no balance in this team whatsoever.
June 20, 20241 yr So bad from England, Southgate making a bunch of changes now but no Palmer still which is just bizarre. Gallagher is a headless chicken too btw
June 20, 20241 yr Phil Foden coming off now. It's like Jekyll and Hyde when he swaps a sky blue shirt for an England shirt.
June 20, 20241 yr Phil Foden coming off now. It's like Jekyll and Hyde when he swaps a sky blue shirt for an England shirt. No shock that Trent and Foden are probably our two most naturally gifted players in terms of technical levels and Southgate can’t get a tune out of them. Just shows the standard of coaching. I know it’s different at international level but look at the difference Naagelsman has made after a year.
June 20, 20241 yr So bad from England, Southgate making a bunch of changes now but no Palmer still which is just bizarre. Gallagher is a headless chicken too btw Why would you put on Palmer when you need a player with energy who can press like erm Gallagher!
June 20, 20241 yr I wonder if Cole Palmer will even get some game time during this tournament. Arguably the best player of the 2023/24 season in domestic English football and he's just on the bench watching from the sidelines.
June 20, 20241 yr How utterly predictable. They'll blame the pitch or the weather or the long Prem season/fixture congestion anything other than calling Gareth out for the total incompetent coach he is
June 20, 20241 yr I wonder if Cole Palmer will even get some game time during this tournament. Arguably the best player of the 2023/24 season in domestic English football and he's just on the bench watching from the sidelines. He'll just do what Foden does. That was absolutely mind numblind awful and boring. We look gassed, absolutely terrible. Trent and Foden will get stick, but the whole team were terrible. Which points to something not right with our set up and coaching.
June 20, 20241 yr That was a throwback to the Hodgson years. But as we all know England never have and never will win all their group games in a tournament so we take our medicine and go again. Not blaming Southgate on this one he made good calls at the right times although I'd have preferred Palmer over Bowen. Foden just isn't that guy. Don't think he's ever done anything noteworthy in an England shirt. Edited June 20, 20241 yr by Dobbo
June 20, 20241 yr How utterly predictable. They'll blame the pitch or the weather or the long Prem season/fixture congestion anything other than calling Gareth out for the total incompetent coach he is You do know that Southgate has got England to 2 semis and a final? 👀 Palmer seems to be the player everyone think would have made a difference but he would have done similar to Foden in the way he plays! Just think people don’t understand international football and think the premier league players will play exactly how they play in the league when they are coached week in week out - it’s not like that in internationals and coaching isn’t possible like in the league. And hey guess what Denmark are a damn good side too. Edited June 20, 20241 yr by Steve201
June 20, 20241 yr Denmark did nearly catch us out in the semis of last Euros so goes to figure as with the last few tournaments that a team we have (recent) history with proves the most challenging, History repeating itself!
June 20, 20241 yr Author And so we finish 1-1 - only caught the last 20 minutes but both teams seemed fairly evenly matched.
