My favourite is related to Euro 92 in Sweden.

Towe Jaarnek and Peter Joback - More Than A Game

"More Than A Game" is the official song of football European Championship in Sweden. Surprisingly this single reached top 30 in February, four months before the football competition and left the official chart after only two weeks.

Ricky Martin - The Cup of Life was the official song of 1998 FIFA World Cup and more successful in charts than "Carnaval De Paris".

My favourite is by Christie Moore - Joxer Goes to Stutgart from Euro 88 but in the 90s it’s World in Motion! Only one I don’t like from the poll is Fat Les tbh!

Fav tournament of the 90s probably the 1994 World Cup!

I like them all except Vindaloo but the one I listen to most is 3 Lions’ 98.

I always enjoy World In Motion and Carnaval De Paris too.

Three Lions was the first single I ever bought and I had to vote for that. These days I’d probably slightly prefer to listen to World In Motion though.

'Carnival De Paris' out of these. '3 Lions' is one of the most overrated songs ever for me oops. Didn't mind it so much 20 years ago but boy it grates and get sick of hearing it as the only Football song popping back up every time.

My fave pre 2000's Football song (even though I don't follow or watch it) is 'All Together Now' by The Farm though!

No option for this one?

But this below is my actual favourite -

Also shout out to Pop Will Eat Itself for Touched by the Hand of Cicciolina

The England United song was a weird one, Britpop by numbers after the genre was no longer as cool/successful, with the addition of Spice Girls (on their last recorded single as a five piece before Geri left) presumably only to try and lift sales as otherwise they don't fit the record at all, and you can really only hear Melanie C. The song also just comes across as more flat than celabratory to me.

And then that odd music video with the kids morphing into the older stars. I'm not really surprised it wasn't much of a hit or that 3 Lions' 98 and Vindaloo did a lot better as 'unofficial' songs.

Love all four of those though 'Three Lions' edges it for me.

Shout out also to 'England's Irie', and Ant & Dec's 'We're On The Ball' is also a bit of a guilty pleasure #sorrynotsorry

'Eat My Goal' by Collapsed Lung was also a bit of a tune back in the day.

'Carnaval de Paris' tops it for me followed by 'World In Motion' then 'Vindaloo' and then 'Three Lions'.

  • 3 weeks later...
Three Lions but actually I really like all of them apart from World In Motion which is such a dull song to me.
