Stoke City have sacked head coach Steven Schumacher in the wake of Saturday’s defeat to Oxford, the Championship club have confirmed.

His departure comes following the Potters’ 1-0 loss at the Kassam Stadium, a result which left Stoke 13th in the table after two wins and three defeats from their opening five matches.

Schumacher joined the club from Plymouth Argyle in December 2023, replacing Alex Neil, and subsequently steered the team to Championship safety with a 17th-placed finish last season.

Oxford United head coach Des Buckingham has left his role after 13 months in charge.

After an encouraging start to the campaign the U's have struggled in recent weeks and have dropped to within a point of the Championship relegation zone.

Buckingham was appointed in November 2023 and led the club to promotion from League One via a play-off final victory at the end of last season.

"The club would like to place on record its thanks to Des for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future," said a club statement.

Millwall head coach Neil Harris has left the club after Saturday's trip to Middlesbrough.

The Lions are currently 11th in the Championship and have not won in their past four games.

Harris returned for his second stint in charge of the club in February on a contract until June 2025.

The 47-year-old said it was not an easy decision to leave Millwall, where he remains their all-time leading goalscorer and previously spent four years as manager from 2015-2019.

I guess it's just the fact that not every great player is destined to he a great manager. If he does go I hope he can find something that really fits his character.

It’s like championship clubs like Plymouth don’t check his history. He hasn’t had any success anywhere as a manager and yet his star name gets him jobs. Only place he got an effective system in place was derby when they were already going down and he made them hard to beat at least.

Didn’t Birmingham sack John eustace to appoint him and nearly got relegated with the latter had already shown how good he was and is still showing that now at Blackburn!
