Morecambe seem to going for some sort of record. Starting the season with five straight defeats is not particularly uncommon. However, Morecambe have managed to lose all five games 1-0.

Mike Williamson has been sacked by Carlisle, leaving the Football League's bottom club looking for a third manager of the season.

Williamson signed 11 new players in January but has been unable to arrest a desperate run of form that has seen the Cumbrians plummet to the foot of the League Two table.

It's rather surprising for me. Some recent signings haven't had a chance to settle yet within the squad.

Carlisle United have appointed Wales legend Mark Hughes as their new head coach.

Hughes has signed a rolling contract to replace Mike Williamson who was sacked on Monday with the club bottom of League Two.

The 61-year-old, who will have Glyn Hodges alongside him as assistant coach, has been out of work since being sacked by Bradford City in October 2023.

Hughes has managed six clubs in the Premier League as well as the Wales national team after a glittering playing career.

Not a good start under the new manager, at least he has more of an inkling of what he has to deal with at Carlisle United.

What a end to the season with Bradford scoring in the 95th min to snatch an automatic promotion space from Walsall who at Christmas were 12 pts clear at the top.

The expected relegation has occurred for Carlisle United. 3 managers in one season (Paul Simpson, Mike Williamson and Mark Hughes).

Hopefully the owners will decide who is to manage Carlisle in the National League first, before the transfer window. First two managers allowed to spend in Summer transfer window and January transfer window. The players didn't get a chance to play in the style for which they were signed to do (particularly true of the January transfer window, didn't have much of a chance to gel as a squad under the manager who signed them). See you in National League 25/26 season...

The League Two play-off final sees AFC Wimbledon who are looking for a return to League One for the first time since 2022 take on Walsall who back in January were 12 points clear at the top of the league and it took an late Bradford City goal for Walsall to have to go for the play-offs. Walsall are looking for a return for the first time since 2019.

Who do you think will win?
