June 30, 20241 yr Shame it isn’t in the days of the Golden Goal  My husband just said the exact same thing!
June 30, 20241 yr Don't think Switzerland will be quaking at the moment... England could just go with the tactic of boring them to death for 90 minutes then come alive in the last minute to win
June 30, 20241 yr England now controls the mentality. It would be tough for Slovakia to recreate that Switzerland's comeback against France.
June 30, 20241 yr Who is this awful ITV commentator who is leading purely by emotion. Sooooooo negative
June 30, 20241 yr Author No surprise England got opportunities since Foden went off, he doesn’t suit this team at all. Get another goal, Slovakia look spent We've changed shape slightly with two strikers, playing a 532 now. But just presses the question why Foden started when he was away from the camp for half the week.
June 30, 20241 yr Who is this awful ITV commentator who is leading purely by emotion. Sooooooo negative Sam Matterface and Lee Dixon - there both as bad as eachother but I think you mean Dixon. As mentioned earlier they've sacked Clive Tyldesley (whose willing to stay working for them) to keep these clowns. Edited June 30, 20241 yr by DoBelieveTheHype
June 30, 20241 yr This is the most obvious case of England pulling out moments like this until they meet a really good team and then it stops.
June 30, 20241 yr Author This is the most obvious case of England pulling out moments like this until they meet a really good team and then it stops. It's classic Southgate. Gone in front, so we now play super safe and conservative.
June 30, 20241 yr He's been the manager for nearly 10 years, he's clearly a really good man manager, but his tactics are dreadful. When has he ever beaten a top team? In every big game we've got beaten outside of the Denmark semi, which we got an incredibly fortunate penalty to help us.All good things come to an end, unfortunately Southgate has stunk the place out for too long now. Your such a typical England fan Roo no offence. The biggest thing going for Southgate in 2016 was how awful they were in the euros so England fans expectation levels were rock bottom by their standards so it gave him time to put in place his views. It wasn’t until 2021 that the Preasure was on and he met the expectations getting to the final, he did well in the World Cup too and now a tournament later he’s been there long enough that the fans are thriving change if he doesn’t beat the Slovakias and Slovenias of this world 5-0 playing Guardiola style football. That’s not realistic in these tournaments no matter what players you have imo.

That’s not realistic in these tournaments no matter what players you have imo. We were one minute from going out to the Slovakia. The miracle goal from Bellingham shouldn't be over-egged. As someone who actually thinks Southgate has done a good job at 2018,2020 and 2022 this is a dreadful performance and if he does get sacked after this tournament he deserves it. Look at Switzerland last night and compare it to today's England; it's night and day. It's time for change.
June 30, 20241 yr The commentators are such w*n**rs... Southgate from Zero to Hero in the space of a second This Dixon is doing my tits in with his ‘we need Harry Maguire on the end of this’ before they equalised. That’s why your in the commentary box Lee!
June 30, 20241 yr Yep - insane how quickly the narrative changes for them. A bit of luck for Southgate yes, but it doesn't change the fact he's been shite tactically all game. Not sure a win here would save him if they went out to Switzerland anyway. He's won so many games that should be comfortable on penalties and extra time at major tournaments he shouldn't get much credit if it happens again. Should be winning in the 90. Would the Swiss not be favourites?
June 30, 20241 yr Would the Swiss not be favourites? On play in the tournament so far yes. However England were favourites to win the tournament before it started so you'd have us as favourites on that score. Given Southgate has said to the media he'll go if we don't win the tournament I think he's out if he loses to Switzerland.

That’s not realistic in these tournaments no matter what players you have imo. Completely disagree. We shat the bed in the 2021 final against Italy, all down to his tactics. There was no need for it to go to penalties. We were actually quite good post Euros and up to the World Cup. I just feel we're going to have to disagree on this one. You can talk about tournament football, which I agree with, but we were not in good coming in the tournament and we've got incredibly fortunate although the likes of Austria and Switzerland would probably disagree there. We've had about 10 shots on goal all tournament and it doesn't take a football genius to see what the problems are, but he continues with his incredibly brain dead style and the same personel. He's got to go.
June 30, 20241 yr That was a fun watch, but my goodness unless they play a lot better than they did for 94 minutes they'll be run out of the building by a peaking Swiss side Edited June 30, 20241 yr by DJHazey
June 30, 20241 yr You can’t argue with anyone who rates Southgate it’s like someone believing Sunak is a great prime minister or something, there is too much evidence that nothing you say can change them if they’re refusing to accept reality. Sadly his coaching staff seem hopeless too I just saw jimmy floyd hasslebank who was incredibly incompetent as a pundit and got sacked from some league two team somehow Southgate recruited him. But I want England to win so I’m just hoping somehow he gets lucky and injuries and suspensions and fan pressure just creates a climate where he gets it right for a game or two. Only 3 games to win, not impossible
June 30, 20241 yr Wellll, that was a close one lads x That could've potentially been a humiliation up there with Iceland in 2016, but nice to know we're still capable of playing interesting football! Maybe it's Southgate's masterplan to just bore the opposition to tears for 90 minutes x Gonna need a lot to change to beat Switzerland, especially as they've just knocked out the current European champions.

Given Southgate has said to the media he'll go if we don't win the tournament I think he's out if he loses to Switzerland. He will leave no matter what happens think that’s been clear for a while. The Swiss are one of the best international teams over the past decade similar to Denmark but of course if we are talking about who has the best players on paper then England do but it’s not as simple as that. Fair play to Slovakia though they have a really good team and mentality and deserved more respect than they got from the English media
