2021 final against Italy 119th minute he brought on Rashford & Sancho for pens, both missed, England lost

And that's on the players, they should be capable of scoring from 12 yards.

The negativity here is hilarious - England get to their 3 semi final in 4 tournaments under Southgate 🤣

Have you actually enjoyed and being inspired by any of England's matches so far? We're in the semi-final despite being absolutely rubbish.

That short corner pass back to Pickford that's gone viral just sums up the England style this tournament. Utterly horrible to watch but somehow getting through due to one player taking matters into their own hands.

You sound like you’ve had a lot of beers

International managers can’t coach players for the most! And Sakas goal was hardly a fluke, I thought you watched the premier league??

I didn’t know England could reach 3 semi finals in 4 tournaments and for it still to be lucky jeepers give him and the players some praise will you.

You say that Steve, but there are well coached teams at the Euros.

My issue is that we’ve got a lot of luck. I thought the set up today meant we were way more solid, but creatively we are toothless. We don’t have the set piece threat we used to, so the moments have to count. Just think we should be doing better and Southgate would solve problems rather than waiting for them to occur.

If we do win playing ugly then I'm here for it. Can't remember a time where the eventual champions played swashbuckling football winning every game 3-0.

You don’t need to win with sexy football. But football is also meant to be entertaining, think there’s a balance to it. My main issue is we look toothless and our tactic is to play for penalties!

Southgate has been so lucky really. England have played Slovakia, Serbia, Denmark, Slovenia, Switzerland and won just one of them in 90 minutes and somehow in a semi final. I’d rather a lucky manager though in a way as long as it lasts to the end. Given England seem to be playing every team beginning with an S it’s gotta be an England v Spain final.

No suspensions or injuries. Luke Shaw now playing again. You gotta make England favourites for sure against Holland and in such a game I’m happy to win playing terrible just a sensible terrible. Keep the ball don’t defend for your lives like they’re superior because they’re definitely not

I think Spain in Euro 2008 are the closest to this.

Only one of the four remaining teams look remotely well coached, attacking-wise anyway. There may have been good teams with good managers at this tournament, but they haven't got very far. England are boring, and they don't play particularly well, but our defensive solidity is excellent. Switzerland were raved about before, how good they are and how difficult it would be for England, they had one good chance and scored it.

3 penalty shoot out wins from 4 under Southgate, after 1 win in 7 in our history before, and he still gets slated for one we didn't win

Not sure that’s what the point of the tournament is, they are there to win!

He learned from his mistake from Euro 2020 by giving minutes in the legs to players, so fair play. As always my issue is Southgate just reacts, it's plane as day from the ehat maps that Bellingham, Foden and Kane all want the same space. Even yesterday, Kane was doing his drop deep, but it just left us with no outball and for all how Saka was winning his duels, Kane was barely there. Southgate just seems to not want to try anything new, which I don't really understand. No shock as soon as Shaw came on and we actually had some width, our left side looked a lot more cohseive.

Yeh basically this, he and his team literally can’t win. With each game though the arguements just become more hollow. Still think the Dutch will beat England but it should be a great game!

They aren't going to win the tournament though - they're extremely lucky to still be in it. As has been shown they only seem to do anything inspiring when the players actively ignoring Southgate late in the game. Bellingham's bicycle kick and Saka's great worldie were both them getting frustrated and seizing the moment.

I'd rather the team played well and lost than shut up shop and played for draws like they have been.

Penalty shoot outs are won by the better team/players 90% of the time. To say 3 out of 4 won sounds good until you remember these are teams England should have beat before penalties. It’s like Man Utd boasting about beating Coventry on penalties. This is not a success story. So who did England beat in these shoot outs? Switzerland twice and Colombia. The way people use misleading stats to defend Southgate is astonishing. The one good team we faced in pens was Italy and England lost it DUE to Southgate he brought on two players in the 120th minute and England were 2-1 up after two taken each before the first of those two subs missed and the next one missed after that too.

England should be winning tournaments with these players, I don’t see how anyone can deny that.

In knockout football it's unfair to say any team SHOULD be winning tournaments. Martinez is labelled a fraud for not winning anything with Belgium, Southgate for not winning with England, Brazil are flops for not going past the semis in 5 world cups, I'm sure if Deschamps hadn't delivered a title for France he'd be a massive flop too given their talent, but only one team can win, it doesn't make ALL the others flops. All you can ask is that you put yourselves in contention to win and Southgate has done that each time, this time is easily the worst and most boring football but we're still there and aren't really any worse than 2 of the other 3 teams remaining.

The subs missing penalties is purely outcome bias. Bringing penalty takers on towards the end of Extra Time has been a thing since I remember watching football. Argentina bought Dybala on in the 121st minute of the World Cup final and he scored, but was clearly a terrible decision.

Hungary - Draw

Iceland - Draw

Austria - Draw

Croatia - Draw - win in E/T

Poland - Draw - win on Pens

Wales - Win

Portugal's run to Euro 2016 final, bet the Portuguese must count it as a hollow win as they didn't beat anyone decent and barely played well!

All of it seems justified. Martinez seems a fraud to me. Brazil are clearly underperforming and France look horrendous. What about having teenager Saka taking the 5th penalty? Not a manager mess up in your opinion?

I think England can definitely win the tournament but it’s due to an array of talent and depth nothing else. England have great pen takers now. Palmer, Toney have incredible records I don’t really see how this is a Southgate relation.

The man is lucky as hell and that’s a great quality but if he went back into club management it wouldn’t be long before his shortcomings were highlighted that’s all my point is. This guy is managing the best squad of talent in world football and struggling to win a game and I’m supposed to give him credit

I think you are thinking too much of Southgate as a club manager, he is t a club manager he’s an international manager, it’s completely different.
