Posted January 11, 200718 yr Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez began his 3rd term yesterday sayng that he wants to make Venezuela the 1st socialist nation in South America, invoked Christ and Fidel Castro ( ) as his socialists models. The words were very heavy: "Fatherland, socialism or death — I swear it - I swear by Christ — the greatest socialist in history." The next step to implement his socialism in that country is a constutitional reform, which includes a project that will be voted soon which gives the president the oportunity to edit laws without consulting the parlament. B) One of the new laws proposed is the one that allows "indefinite re-election", so that Chavez can be elected again in 2012 when his time is over. All this on top of banning Santa on Christmas... :(
January 11, 200718 yr All this on top of banning Santa on Christmas... :( sounds like my sorta fellow!
January 11, 200718 yr Sounds briliant to be. The fact is Socialisim Works. Look at Cuba if it wasnt for the US boycott it be one of the most successful countries in the world. I reckon this country needs a socialist revolution :cheer:
January 11, 200718 yr Author hmm.... just what we dont need... another religious tin-pot dictator.. He is not a religious, unless socialism is a religion. Venezuela is also a country rich in oil, I wonder if we might see another war in the future?
January 11, 200718 yr hmm.... just what we dont need... another religious tin-pot dictator.. Who the hell says he's religious..? By saying that Christ was a Socialist, I seriously doubt that any Christian Church is gonna be happy about that, especially the Catholics.... He's using Christ as a metaphor more than anything else... Socialism is ANTI-Religion, Marx said "Religion is the opiate of the masses" after all.... As for Dictator... Well, I reckon the fact that he keeps getting voted back in kind of completly blows that theory out of the water, since when do you vote for a dictator...? He wants to have indefinite elections so he can keep running for office, not an indefinite term of office, totally different.... And considering what happened in the US elections of 2000, Bush Jr has absolutely fukk all right to accuse anyone of 'vote rigging'..... Chavez is p***ing off the right people - the US, the Globalisers, the Multinational Oil Interests, the Western Capitalists who are annoyed by the fact that they cant get into Venezuela to exploit its oil wealth or use Venezuelans as cheap labour... As far as I'm concerned, he's a stand-up bloke, more power to him... Chavez is threatening precisely no one, he has not invaded or has even made vague threats to invade any of his neighbours. If anything the opposite is true, he's being threatened himself by outside forces, and the CIA have been involved in attempted assassination plots against him....
January 11, 200718 yr All this on top of banning Santa on Christmas... :( I thought you weren't bothered by that though... In fact I seem to remember you going on a major rant about how Latin America was being forced to adhere to Winter Festivals in the middle of Summer by Globalisers and Capitalists....
January 11, 200718 yr Venezuela is also a country rich in oil, I wonder if we might see another war in the future? Goes without saying really.... It'll happen at some point. The US will invent some bullsh!t reason to invade Venezuela just as they invented other bullsh!t reasons in Vietnam, Greneda, Panama and Iraq..... <_<

I know it, I was just joking with this phrase.

Even his pretentions of edit laws without consulting the parlament. I think Hitler was elected too before becoming a dictator. What if USA boycotts Venezuela like they did with Cuba... except the fact that Venezuela has oil like middle eastern countries.

I think Hitler was elected too before becoming a dictator. What if USA boycotts Venezuela like they did with Cuba... except the fact that Venezuela has oil like middle eastern countries. True Socialism/Marxism doesn't really allow for a 'multiparty' state though, even Marx himself states this... And who's to say a benign dictator (which is what the likes of Castro and Chavez are..) is worse than the likes of Bush and Blair who continually lie through their teeth, warmonger and offer merely an illusion of democracy...? To even try and compare Chavez to Hitler (or indeed Castro to Hitler..) is pretty ridiculous, and frankly by doing so, you do the work of the Neo Cons.... I'm not aware of any persecution of ethnic minorities in Venezuela, concentration camps, ethnic cleansing, or indeed Venezuela invading, or even vaguely threatening , other countries in the region.... If US were to boycott Veneauela they'd be very stupid indeed... And I seriously doubt that the EU or China would go along with it either, more than likely tell Bush to fukk off....
January 15, 200718 yr Author Hmmm... I think these aspirations of remaining on power forever are really a sign of megalomaniac dictatorship. I wouldn´t classify Castro as "benign" either, for supressing basical rights of his population. You don´t see too many americans risking their lives to enter illegally on Cuba...

You're always going to get illegal economic migation though JJN, thousands of Mexicans cross the border illegally every day into the US....

Cuba has the best Health care, schools and unis in the world mate. If there wasnt a US boycott Cuba would be a very prosperous country indeed. And if u compare it to other central and southern American countries it is doing very well thankyou.
January 15, 200718 yr Absolutely... I dont reckon you'd have even half of the Cubans attempting to enter the US illegally that do if there wasn't the embargo going on... It's just utterly spiteful, and was Dubya speaking for the people of New Orleans when he knocked back Castro's genuine offer of help and aid to the people of New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit..? I think not, a totally immature and dogmatic decision from an idiot-child who has no place in politics..... The Cuban Americans who have a problem with Castro are, you will find, usually those who are descended from the upper and middle-classes who did well under the brutal, fascisitic Batista regime.... Ask ordinary, working class Cubans how they feel about Castro, the vast majority continue to support him gladly and willingly and not because they are oppressed or coerced....
