In the Sales Vault there is the bestselling female hits of the 90s and 00s. I don’t suppose anybody has a list of the biggest male solo hits of each decade?

Hi,

In the Sales Vault there is the bestselling female hits of the 90s and 00s. I don’t suppose anybody has a list of the biggest male solo hits of each decade?

From what I can find:

1950s - 1,253,000 (Sep 2017) - Paul Anka: Diana

1960s - 1,524,000 (Sep 2017) - Ken Dodd: Tears

1970s - 1,234,000 (Sep 2017) - Art Garfunkel: Bright Eyes

1980s - 1,965,000 (Jun 2019) - Stevie Wonder: I Just Called to Say I Love You

1990s - 4,951,000 (Sep 2017) - Elton John: Something About the Way You Look Tonight / Candle in the Wind 1997

2000s - 2,000,000 (Aug 2021) - Will Young: Evergreen / Anything Is Possible

2010s - 3,600,000 (Jan 2023) - Pharrell Williams: Happy

Honestly always totally surprises me that of all the amazing Stevie Wonder songs, that is the one that became a monster hit!? I have never really liked the song but love so much of his other stuff!?
Yeah, Stevie Wonders has much better songs than that, but it's not hard to see why it did so well, it had that commercial appeal to cross over to pop audiences.

His most streamed in the UK are:

1 Superstition

2 Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)

3 Sir Duke

My fave of his is A Place In The Sun from the 60's.

Also came from a popular 1984 film Woman In Red.

There's actually a bit of a running theme on that list of people who do have loads of talent on display elsewhere having shite monster hits. From the Stevie dirge to Will Young's generic winners song to Elton's Diana eulogy...

My top three from him are

1. Uptight

2. Supersition

3. Signed, sealed, delivered

So those are great choices streaming public!

That is a very good point but I get why the Elton and Will Young ones were so huge they had Diana and Pop Idol backing them.

That is a beautiful song! I had tickets to see him at Hyde Park a few years back but my friend who I was going with got breast cancer and couldn't go. I felt it would be horrid of me to go without her so we sold the tickets. Said we'd go next time but haven't had the opportunity since.

Also never knew that about IJCTSILY!

My friend made a recovery and has been in remission for a few years now, which is obviously far more important than the concert ever was, I don't regret my decision.
