I seem to be in the minority that really love Spinning Around. I’ve never done a complete Kylie singles rank, but I imagine it’s be top 5-10 for me.

Same.

SA, confide in me, Devil. ATL and Certain are my constant top 5. But they change positions within !

Under The Influence Of Love was always one of my favourites from this album

This was one of my go-to songs to help get me through the lockdown! It'll always be special to me for that.

SA is a fav of mine and likely to be in my top 10 !!

Me too, this, disco down, light years, butterfly and bittersweet goodbye are songs I prefer to the singles.

Your disco needs you I never know to refer to as a single or not but along with the above I prefer it to the singles.

Spinning around is my least fave single from light years but it's b side paper dolls i love.

I remember reading something about how some of her fans chained themselves to the gates of her record label when they chose to release 'Please Stay' instead of 'Your Disco Needs You' (I wonder if there are any pictures of this online if it did happen??)

I believe as they opted to avoid 'Your Disco Needs You', it was between 'Please Stay' and 'Butterfly' for that single and they went with the former. I do enjoy 'Please Stay' but it's a nonentity single in her discography I always forget about. Super hot video though 🔥

I'd be interested to see how 'Your Disco Needs You' would have performed instead, better than #10 or... ?

I'm really not sure how your disco needs you would have done it's one of those songs that could easily have been a number 1 or a number 41.
Yeah, I mean she had a run of 16 consecutive top 10 singles from 'Spinning Around' to 'In My Arms' so I'm not sure I'd take the risk of breaking it with something else!

YDNY has become a bit of a folklore cult classic with everyone claiming it would’ve been a #1 etc.,

I do think it was a missed opportunity but I’m not convinced it would have been the smash everyone assumed it would be, also it didn’t exactly light up the charts in the countries where it did get a release (happy that we have CD singles for it though)

Australia #20

Switzerland #27

Germany #31

Austria #70

Despite its Australian underperformance, it was actually the best-performing Light Years single in each of Germany, Switzerland, and Austria.

Whilst looking up YDNY I discovered a cover version I didn’t need to know existed

Agreed with the consensus here that 'Spinning Around' worked best. Every element came together just right and it's considered one of the best reinventions and comebacks in pop. The lyrics matched her situation so well you'd be forgiven for assuming it was originally written for Kylie herself: "Threw away my old clothes, got myself a better wardrobe", "I know you're feeling me 'cause you like it like this". The disco-tinged sound was very on trend as well with the likes of 'I'm Outta Love', 'Lady (Here Me Tonight)', 'Rock DJ', 'Music', 'One More Time', 'Groovejet' all being hits that year.

It was such a huge comeback and in the mid to late 90s no one would have predicted what was ahead for Kylie its right up there with the ultimate comeback and spinning around to its credit opened so many doors for kylie, brought in new fans and brought back some of the ones she lost while also holding onto her fans that stuck by her through the ups and downs.

Spinning Around did have that huge kylie is back statement and for that and all the above I will be grateful to it .

Spinning Around literally spun Kylie's career right on its head.

The press soaked up everything about the song and video which massively worked to Kylie's advantage.

Its amazing how all it take is one song to really get a career back on track, in scenarios like this the 3 career saving songs that always come to my mind are Kylies spinning around, Take Thats patience and Angels for Robbie Williams, all 3 showcasing a complete turnaround in events, in opposite to that Girl Thing who released the same week as Kylies spinning around ( and i have to say i like the song) were so hyped at the time and were tipped to go number 1 completely underperformed and as they say the rest is history.
