Paul Weller Turns Down CBE

He doesn’t want to be British Commander…

by Andy Day on 13/01/2007

Modfather Paul Weller has apparently turned down a medal from Her Majesty.

The Wild Wood singer was offered the gong during last summer’s Birthday Honours, but declined the the offer with a firm “Thanks, but no thanks,†reports the Daily Mirror.

According to a source close to Weller, he was “surprised and flattered, but it wasn't really for him."

Any Comments about Paul Weller joining the list of musicians who have turned down awards (including most famously David Bowie turning down a Knighthood in 2002)?

Good for him... And Bowie as well.... I certainly have a lot more respect for those who turn it down than those who seem to bask in the 'glory' of it all (hello "Sir" Paul, "Sir" Elton....). We all know that it aint the Queen who actually decides these things anyway, she's probably never heard a ruddy Jam or Style Council record in her life... it's Tony trying to be 'cool'....
I'm not surprised he's turned it down. Weller's always been outspoken in his opinions and he's no hypocrite, so good for him
would have been shocked if he had accepted it

The big question, though, is what has he done to deserve a CBE? MBE perhaps.

Either way, who cares?
