I think this will be big in the run up to Xmas, as it's virtually a GH in all but name. I'd have put Supermarket Flowers on it, which was my late daughter's fave song of his.

Just because streams will be high? I’m not sure why people think it’ll be huge but maybe I’m completely wrong?!

Not sure this will be big as a physical product, there’s nothing new on it and it’s being marketed weirdly for a hits album (it would sell better just called Greatest Hits). The streams plus an ok first week physical sale should see it at No.1 though I guess as it probably only needs 25k. And then it will probably just hang around for ages from 11-20 on streams after that.

I genuinely wasn’t sure what the thoughts were around this, so thanks. I do think it’ll hang around the charts for ages though.
Surely he would rather his studio albums all sold well as a whole?
I’ve never been against Ed Sheeran in any way at all but to me his time is gone. It’s very hard to even listen to anything from him since it got overplayed so much for so long. If you look at Spotify top artists UK he is 23 most listened whereas the weeknd is always too 5 so I don’t see it being as successful on a weekly basis as some think.
I am really interested to see the reaction to his next new ‘pop’ material!
I was basing my "I can't see how it won't be #1" comment on the fact that there is a physical release - there's no way he won't sell enough physicals of it to be #1.

Is there a physical release? (just curious if Gaga has chance for #1 or not, she won't if there is)

Yes, there is a CD and a vinyl.

It's crazy that Bad Habits, Shivers and Merry Christmas were so big only three years ago and then it seemed last year - Eyes Closed aside - everything was going wrong. I'm not sure what happened all of a sudden after so many years of huge success.

I think that Autumn Variations album was a big mistake, it came way too soon after Subtract and the material was poor. It would have been a much better idea to disappear after Subtract - which I still maintain is a very strong album outside the lead single, it just wasn't commercial - and definitely scrap the autumn project idea before anything was ever released.

People say he got too oversaturated but he's been everywhere for over a decade so I don't see why that would suddenly be an issue. I guess a lot has changed in the last few years and in a post-TikTok landscape he's just not as relevant to younger audiences but the slide of relevance has just seemed surprisingly abrupt.

I agree it will be interesting to see what happens with his next studio pop album, I don't think we'll be getting any more acoustic or stripped back type albums for a while - the public clearly aren't here for that. He needs a really killer lead single next time, not a damp squib 'same old, same old' like Eyes Closed and American Town. He's more than capable of delivering that but let's see if the public are here for it.

This will have similar success to The Weeknds The Highlights but with a Number 1 peak.

‘You Need Me’ is song 2!

On the digital version. It's not on the CD or vinyl.

I could maybe see a chart run like 1-12-19-20-21-24-23-24 etc...

If he's only the 23rd most listened to UK artist nowadays then he will settle at a much lower level than The Weeknd.

I actually tried to order this on Amazon and it says delivery 10 October to 1 November??? Are they really already out of stock. Makes me think the label haven't actually made all that many copies. Why would you roll out a hits album in this weird way, I don't get it.

You Need Me is track 2 on Spotify only

I think they'v not pressed many copies cos they rely on this doing well on streaming and they know his fanbase is not the one that buys 12 colour variants each ala Taylor, so at least they're realistic. After week 1, he could do 5K every week and that's top 20 forever.

I think he should have taken a break after Equals, skip Substract and especially skip the Autumn one. They should have released from Substract's reaction that people don't buy his acoustic side.

I suppose he had to release Subtract at some point to complete the 'Mathematics' era. It was originally supposed to come after his debut I think, so he really pushed it way back because I guess he decided to become a big popstar instead after the reaction to his debut. He said some of the songs on it were written many years ago. He was kind of bound by his own constraints as couldn't move out of this 'era', aside from side projects like the collabs album, without releasing that first.

But seeing the muted reaction to it and still deciding to go ahead with Autumn Variations was a weird one. I'd have called time immediately for a while or just put that out as a series of digital only EPs or something if he was so keen to have the music out.
