It's a return to the top spot for the still-exciting Bernadette as The Four Tops grab another oldie number one in my charts. Bernadette was a favourite oldie in 1967, one which I'd forgotten all about until it was released again in 1972 to become a UK hit. Grandma gave me a record token I think while she was visiting us from Liverpool, and I bought Bernadette with it and it became the first-ever oldie record to top my charts. So now it also becomes the longest-gap between hitting number one and returning again, at 52 and a half years. If Simple Game manages to climb from 6 to 1, that will take over that record, as it was the first Four Tops number one for me in 1971, with 2 others following in 1972 and the 2000's - Walk Away Renee at 56 being the 4th to date previously.

Clean Bandit grab a top 10 with Cry Baby, their 4th including Rockabye in 2017 with Anne-Marie, who therefore gets a 2nd with the band, and her 4th in total. David Guetta meanwhile has had 11 as lead artist, number ones galore, and at least as many top 10's with other acts, I should imagine, bearing in mind he has any numner of featuring credits out at any given moment - not least this week as he enters at 82 with Alesso and Madison Love on a new dance track. Kim Wilde first made my top 10 43 years ago, and has added at least another 10 since then, the last one in 2019. Lady Gaga also hits the top 10 with Bruno Mars, her first in 10 years and 13th in total, while Bruno is on his 8th and also first in 10 years. Bruno, Gaga and Kim all have multiple chart-toppers.

The highest new entry at 22 is another oldie - Texas are back with chart-topping Halo after I saw them in concert this week. Sharleen and the boys still put an amazing live show, if you get the chance to catch them, it's well worth it, her voice is still flawless at 57, and no-one has done white soul better than Sharleen, bar Dusty Springfield. She's energetic, amusing, engaging and works hard to get the crowd going, and always has. I think the main reason indie-rock fans don't rate Texas is because they really fall into the Soul Music bracket with a drop of Americana. They finished the show with a euphoric Inner Smile, and then Sharleen did Elvis on Suspicious Minds and came of it smelling of roses, as she did with Al Green's Tired Of Being Alone. Amazing show, supported by kt Tunstall and Razorlight's Andy Burrows on Drums n vocals, both of them bunging in some old hits.

Coldplay are back, We Pray at 73 with a host of featuring acts, James Bay drops in 9 years after having one week at 75, and Tears For Fears keep the re-birth going well after their last excellent album, as their new track debuts at 83 to extend their chart run to a comforting 42 years.

Hey John!

Edge of Saturday night top 5 yassss slay Kylie.

Cry baby is actually growing old on me already

Nobody's Soldier is good isn't it. I was really close to pulling it from my playlist though. In still listening to too sweet as well and it really shows just how nobody's soldier isn't anywhere near as strong.

Espresso do be sounding so good still :cheer:

We pray is pretty decent though my initial reaction wasn't anywhere near as accepting of it lol.

Fab chart ^_^

Hey John,

Nice to see The Four Tops several times in your chart again and at the top

The Blessed Madonna/Kylie, Clean Bandit, Kim Wilde and Lady Gaga/Bruno Mars all Top 10 :cheer:

Hozier, Lost Frequencies Top 20, Pet Shop Boys Top 30, Hugel and Rose Gray Top 40 :yahoo:

Best new tracks bubbling under ; Coldplay, David Guetta/Alesso/Madison Love and Tears For Fears :w00t:

Good seeing new peak positions for Katy Perry, Chappell Roan, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish :D

Hey James! :)

Hope all is great with you! Cry Baby is slightly dropping a bit for me this week, but I still think it's one of their top 5 singles to date - but just me thinks that  Too Sweet is universally loved so Nobody's Soldier was never going to live up to that, but it's pretty good anyway :D Espresso so sweet sounding, so Summer 2024 (if you could call it a summer!) :o  i agree We Pray seemed a bit mundane on inititial hearings but it grew on me - though neither single rank among Coldplay classics, don't even come close :teresa:

Cheers! B-)
