April 11, 200718 yr he is number 14 in the midweeks so i hope he stays there or even climbs higher I hope so too. Quite pleased with #14 considering the lack of airplay. Gareth and 19 have done their best in other ways, but its not quite the same as being heard on the radio a dozen times a day is it. Pity he didn't do a bit better on downloads, but this single obviously didn't appear to the people who download rather than buy the physical. Hopefully the next single will.
April 11, 200718 yr Gareth's is going to be on Radio 1 JK & Joel at 5.15 :cheer: At last some recognition from Radio 1
April 12, 200718 yr After last week's jitters, I'm very happy with number 14, lol. I read that he's number 2 on physicals, which is remarkable. Downloads are obviously pulling him down, but without the airplay, and limited video play, it was inevitable there would be a big difference. There are a lot of lessons to be learnt from this promotion, one being that Gareth shouldn't be written off just yet!
April 12, 200718 yr What will happen after this release? I suspect the song will drop like a stone - then - nothing - for weeks. Will Gareth do all this running around radio stations, TV stations, press interviews, signings etc all over again? What will be the 'big sell' next time - it can't be his 'comeback and controlled stammer' USPs next time. I'm confused - why don't they release the album whilst he's done all this promo. There's a danger he'll be forgotten by the time the next single is released - especially if this one doesn't do really well. I'm not trying to be critical of Gareth, I'm genuinely confused.
April 12, 200718 yr Fatmuffin, its nice you being concerned for Gareth, but I am sure his management know what they are doing. They believe in Gareth as a long term artist, they recognise his talent, and will give him time. We just have to wait and see what happens, and I am really pleased if he ends up top 20 after 3 1/2 yrs away. What happens after, we will have to wait and see. :D

It seems that the plan was always 2 singles before the album, so if the album is due in July as we are hearing, then the next single will also be in July ( I assume). Working back, I guess we will know what it is sometime in May. Maybe that's too long a gap, maybe not. I think it completely depends on the quality and accessibilty of the next single...and whether the TV and radio picks up on it this time. Much as I love Changes, it probably wasnt' the greatest choice in that repect.
April 12, 200718 yr Author Downloads are not doing Gareth any favours, most of his sales are physical, he needs downloads if he is able to progress up the chart.
April 12, 200718 yr I don't think he'll get it with this release Mikey. Its all going to be about the second single. Gareth has said himself this is just a bridging single from his old stuff to the new.
April 12, 200718 yr Mikey I have just answered in the Sunday Prediction post re Gareth's downloads. I can't see Gareth progressing up the charts and realise that the downloads will hold him back. If he had received any airplay at all it may have encouraged a few to download the track but we can only hope that the next track from the album will fair better. I have probably said this before but Gareth and his team seem to have wanted to declare these 'Changes' and have taken a risk to do it.
April 12, 200718 yr There's a danger he'll be forgotten by the time the next single is released - especially if this one doesn't do really well. I'm not trying to be critical of Gareth, I'm genuinely confused. Try not to stress. If people managed to remember Gareth after three and a half years away, I'm sure they'll manage to retain some memory of him over the next three months. If Gareth starts promotion for the next single in May, then it could be less than two months. But if the worst does happen, and everyone forgets all the promotion Gareth did this time round, then you can stop worrying about Gareth losing his "USP", because if everyone has forgotten, everyone will be just as interested to know about those things! However, I am rather hopeful some people will remember, because that way the DJs and journalists can ask some new questions, and perhaps more time can be given to promoting the music, rather than the personality. He's done a great job with letting a lot of people get to know him, and excellent feedback from the media, which should make things easier for him and his promoters next time round. A lot of his tv and radio interviews ended with "don't leave it so long next time". Next time the music does need to be pushed further forward, and they need to ensure they pick a song that the radio stations will play, and if they do that, and at least some proportion of the population manages to remember Gareth from this time around, then he wouldn't need to do as much running around all over the place, but I don't see anything wrong with them planning for that. Loads of artists run around just as much, if not more, and they do it for release after release. New artists in particular expect to do a lot of running around for the first few releases. The whole physical sales vs download thing will make for an interesting few days before we get the final chart. Without a doubt, someone involved in Gareth's promotion will have to give some serious thought to tapping into that market next time, but given the airplay situation, I don't think anyone can scoff at Gareth's sales. If he continues to be the second biggest seller of physical singles, then some part of his promotion has gone very well.
April 12, 200718 yr People download things they hear on the radio or see on video which is why his download position is holding him back. DJs were obviously just waiting to see how he'd do being the sheep they are. Maybe next time and with a different song it will be much better. Re the date of the release of the second single. It could be brought forward quite easily surely. They've done it with other artists.
April 13, 200718 yr Great interview and performance on Loose Women. hHnYn8Ynwzg bnrA7UQw-lg Edited April 13, 200718 yr by val4jadan
April 13, 200718 yr Blimey how lovely does Gareth look and sound on those videos People download things they hear on the radio or see on video which is why his download position is holding him back. April 13, 200718 yr Nice interview and nice performance, he's v.cute, I can't wait for his next single! Do we know which one it will be? Her girlfriend looks like old madonna on a dancefloor though lol

There will be an announcement next week, who knows we might get told about the album release or next single release. Edited April 13, 200718 yr by hasso
April 13, 200718 yr Blimey how lovely does Gareth look and sound on those videos Would that benefit Gareth though, if the release of the album is still July (as is rumoured)? I would assume that bringing forward the single would tie-in with bringing forward the album, but I don't think that is necessary. July is not that far away, and while it will be important to maintain the momentum from this promotion, there needs to be some kind of break, if only to make a new video and arrange the promotion. Most people seem to think the next single could be either Angel on My Shoulder, as previously playlisted by Radio 2, or Lost in You, which is much more upbeat and would appeal to a younger audience. I like both, and both could do well for different reasons. Angel on my Shoulder is a more mature song, and I think might be better suited to an album buying audience and it has had some excellent feedback. On the other hand, Lost in You is more fun, and it might pay for Gareth to do something very different to Changes. Both are catchier and more radio friendly and it's a shame they have been taken down from his MySpace page. I wonder if Gareth's management were worried they were getting more attention than the single?
April 14, 200718 yr Nice interview and nice performance, he's v.cute, I can't wait for his next single! Do we know which one it will be? Just announced on Jonathon Ross. The next single will be Angel On My Shoulder and will be out in June, with the album to follow soon afterwards. Gareth gave an acoustic performance of it with Pete on guitar and it sounded amazing. Jonathon thinks it will be a big hit (not sure he knows much about charts, but nice of him to say it anyway), and invited him to come back and sing again when it's out. :cheer: I can tell already that Angel On My Shoulder will get a better reception, which is a relief, because scrabbling for airplay is no fun.
April 14, 200718 yr Gareth sounded fantastic singing Angel on my shoulder acoustic with Pete, great song. And I cant wait for the next round.
