February 21, 200718 yr it doesn't matter what the likes of Joe Mott has to say if Gareth has he enough fans eager for his music he will do ok. He will indeed and to be honest I think that will be enough for starters - As Gareth is quoted as saying in the begining of the article by Joe Mott - the tracks don't need to reach No 1 to be successful. Gareth's back catalogue all of which were hits and big hits gives him none of the credibility as a musician he craves. Recognition as a songwriter and musician is far more worthy than a No 1 hit that never receives airplay. I think Gareth deserves this album to be successful but more importantly he deserves his talent to be recognised - he is a talented lad, he is a great musician with wonderful vocals, the tracks I have heard sampled show a depth that he has gained whilst away from the spotlight and the piece de resitance is his ability to interact this time. Best of luck Gareth for the showcase tonight -

Best of luck Gareth for the showcase tonight - Thank you so much Credo for that lovely post. That is all any of Gareth's fans want for him. That it will be seen by the general public just how talented he is. Hardly any, other than a few younger fans are interested in Gareth getting a No1 all the time as long as he's able to make the music which inspires him and makes him happy. And it seems thats the way Gareth himself feels too. And that how it should be for a serious musician, not about how much money they can make for themselves or for their record company.
February 21, 200718 yr I'm not the biggest Gareth fan in the world, but I am looking forward to the album to see what Gareth comes up with, especially his collaborations with Judie Tzuke, which I'm sure will be great. She sang a song she wrote with Gareth at her gig on Sunday, and it sounded great ... "Dark Days" I think it was called... I think Mr Mott has underestimated both Gareth and the loyalty of his fans.
February 22, 200718 yr I think Joe Mott missed out on the interview. Victoria Newton met him yesterday, so it's one of her big stories today. http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,4-2007080647,00.html No news yet from the gig, but it probably happened after they went to press last night.
February 22, 200718 yr The Metro Gareth's back with Changes Thursday, February 22, 2007 Singer Gareth Gates is launching a comeback bid Pop Idol runner-up Gareth Gates is back - with a brand new single and album due to hit the shops in the coming months. The spiky-haired singer performed a showcase of his new material at London's Pigalle Club last night, to an audience of journalists and music industry bigwigs. It's one of the first times the 22-year-old has performed since he was dumped by his record label BMG when his Pop Idol success tailed off - he's one of the better known talent show casualties. But with a new look and having conquered his famous stutter, Gareth's feeling positive about having another crack at the charts. "My expectations are realistic," said the singer, whose new album is called Pictures Of The Other Side. "I know some people might just hear my name and throw my CD out of the nearest window, but I also know that this is a strong album I'm completely proud of. "I am anticipating a lot of preconceptions about me from the public, and I just hope this album manages to establish me as a more credible artist in people's minds, not just someone who was a five minute wonder." As Gareth, whose single Changes hit the shops on April 9, prepares for his comeback bid, we take a look at some other reality show singers and the new brand of fame created by talent shows.
February 22, 200718 yr he is ugly Not exactly my idea of ugly Charis. Are we looking at the same person http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v109/Yorksheather/newwomanpic.jpg
February 22, 200718 yr Nor mine. Another photo of him leaving and a little report on Sky News. http://showbiz.sky.com/showbiz/article/0,,...1252804,00.html New Woman have been raving about how much they love him now too. http://www.nwdaily.co.uk/CelebrityGossipView.aspx?id=1513
February 22, 200718 yr I've never been really into his stuff, as a normal Will fan lol Anyway I've never disliked him, I even used to like his first album a lot... And now I really want him to be successful, I dunno why lol. I may love his new single, can't wait to listen to the whole of it! (And I think he looks more like a man now, and he's kinda cute & sexy lol) Edited February 22, 200718 yr by Poprocks87
February 23, 200718 yr Caught live: Gareth Gates By BECI WOOD February 23, 2007 AFTER impressing Victoria Newton with his attitude during an interview this week, I can report GARETH GATES' new album sounds pretty good too. I was at a London show on Wednesday night to see the 2002 Pop Idol runner-up perform tracks from his new album Pictures Of the Other Side in front of music industry bigwigs. And although his interaction with the crowd seemed a little rehearsed, Gareth had us all captivated throughout the 30 minute set with his huskier sound and grown up image. Backed by his own band, he belted out a number of ballads, including new catchy single Changes and impressive tune 19 Minutes. The only blips on the evening were Gareth's uneasiness during rockier track Lost In You, and his slightly dodgy grandad outfit. Having conquered his famous stammer, he said: "People keep coming up to me saying that I’ve changed from the guy that was in the charts a couple of years ago. That I’ve actually got a personality. "But the only thing that has really changed is my speech. I’ve been working on that for the past three years. I’m actually a really funny guy and I’m really proud of the album. "Thanks for giving me the opportunity to perform for you." Even SIMON COWELL would be proud. Changes is out on April 9.
February 23, 200718 yr Thanks for that. That site has been up and down like a yoyo this morning. I'm surprised you managed to keep it up long enough to copy the article. Very good one it is though, as have been most of them. Even Joe Mott has changed his mind again today. Silly man. Angel On My Shoulder is a big song.If Gareth's people get this right,he could have a No 1 hit here. And it was written for his mum.Bless, and all that female talk. Gareth's stammer was notable by its complete absence and he even cracked jokes.Looking older and more comfortable with his material,Gareth only faltered on rockier numbers like Lost In You. These are not his territory. His voice is sweet, his Bradford twang is enearing and it will work for him if he takes the flak, puts in the graft and steers clear of anythink up-beat. Good luck to him. By Joe Mott I'm a bit at a loss as to what he means about `Lost In You', that song was one that made immediate impressions on lots of people. Probably because he can't get his head around the fact that Gareth can sing something other than a ballad, which he does brilliantly. But his rocky stuff is just as good.
February 24, 200718 yr Joe Mott is as fickle as they come, but of course I agree with him when he's being positive! I do think Angel on My Shoulder could be a big, big song for Gareth, and Joe is right to acknowledge that Gareth has got to ride the storm of the inevitable flak before he can move forward as an actual singer. Did you see Joe Mott's blog? He isn't exactly enlightened. Plus I’ve hung out with Gareth Gates. In reality, that means I chatted to a few PRs I’ve known for years and spoke briefly to Gareth at his comeback showcase. Honestly, he was pretty good and he’s got a Bradford accent. I didn’t know that before because anyone who stutters sounds exactly the same. Unless it’s a Chinese sufferer. Something I challenge anyone not to laugh at. Now he knows Gareth is a real person with an actual accent (daft man), he can't help being nicer. I'm sure the dehumanisation of Gareth in the past was a big part of him getting the brunt of all the hatred aimed at reality tv singers, or young, good looking pop singers in general.
February 24, 200718 yr Now he knows Gareth is a real person with an actual accent (daft man), he can't help being nicer. I'm sure the dehumanisation of Gareth in the past was a big part of him getting the brunt of all the hatred aimed at reality tv singers, or young, good looking pop singers in general. This was something I could never get my head around. You would have thought, Gareth had been sent to this earth by the devil, the amount of things he had thrown at him from the press and others. What exactly did he ever do to warrant such stuff, almost from day one. Absolutely crazy. Like Gareth said in his Documentary, when he took the crew back to the flat where he started his life. `I want people to see where I came from, I wasn't born on a TV show. I have had normality'. It just seems that no-one could be bothered to see that. And it probably was a lot to do with the fact he couldn't speak up for himself and let everyone see the real Gareth. Because he couldn't fulfill their need to give them an interview, it was much easier for them to ridicule him and move on to someone else. In fact the way Gareth was treated, was little short of discrimination. Its taken him three years to put those bad memories behind him. I hope people give him a better chance this time. He's worked very hard to get himself onto a level playing field. And at the end of the day, he's just a normal lad, with a fantastic voice, trying to make a career for himself.
February 25, 200718 yr It just seems that no-one could be bothered to see that. And it probably was a lot to do with the fact he couldn't speak up for himself and let everyone see the real Gareth. Because he couldn't fulfill their need to give them an interview, it was much easier for them to ridicule him and move on to someone else. Sadly, I think you are right. To quote Victoria Newton earlier this week: He now gets to show off his personality — we had no idea what he was like before because he couldn’t express himself. Not that it ever stopped her from judging his personality publicly and very harshly in her column.
February 25, 200718 yr That bit about the accent is ridiculous. Of course he had and still has a Bradford accent. We heard him talking on Pop Idol especially in the filmed pieces. Some journalists are not worth the money we pay for the paper - if we do that is.
February 27, 200718 yr from popbitch...a bit mean..... but some info about the video. On set today, shooting the video for G-g-g-g-g -areth's latest comeback single. Visually they've gone for an indie kid theme (haven't heard the song as yet), and apparently the video features a fight scene. T'is all.
February 27, 200718 yr Thanks for that, I had wondered why we had not heard of the video, but if the shoot was only today, that would explain it. I really cant wait to see it.
