Posted October 5, 2024Oct 5 29th September 2024 In a battle of Eurovision acts it's 1981 winners The (Bucks) Fizz returning to the top with their 2017 chart-topper Amen, still sounding great to me, even if it was never played anywhere back then. Cheryl Mike & Jay hold off Rosa Linn, who never won the competition but got a global hit with Snap! The Fizz now have two new members to replace departing Mike, and Rosa's collab with Sam Feldt could well knock them off next week, as Heart Like Mine is banging dance. Freemasons belatedly grab a 5th top 10, while Tears For Fears are on at least their 14th top 10 since debuting in 1982, and their first since topping my chart again last year with End Of Night. Kylie's back with a new sparkling current-sounding dance track at 17, Lights Camera Action also making the UK charts, and giving her 3 on this rundown. Not bad for a teenage Aussie soap star that just got lucky, lucky, lucky well over 36 years ago and just kept on going against all expectations. Leftwing : Kody & Raphi debut at 41 with the dance track Delirious, Stevie Nicks gets her first new entry in 2 years with the ambitious The Lighthouse at 63, for well over 40 years of solo hits, including one chart-topper in 1989, a chart-topping collab with Miley Cyrus and numerous number one's with Fleetwood Mac since she charted with them in 1976. Kygo does a collab with Imagine Dragons, that's 11 years into the career of the band (starting with a number one in Radioactive), and a previous single together in 2018 which went top 30 here. Kygo only started charting in 2015, but has notched up 17 or 18 in my charts so far. Callum Beattie enters with a tuneful ballad for his 5th charting track, Bryan Ferry revisits an old osbcure track for a tasteful return 52 years on from Virginia Plain, Craig David drops by 2 years after his previous visit and 25 years since his first, and Bright Light Bright Light brings 90's dance hitster Berri back for his 8th chart entry in 10 years, not a single one of them ever charting in the real world. Linkin Park debut with their new female lead vocalist, sounding like the best of the 2000's stuff before the sad loss of Chester Bennington the other year, Heavy Is The Crown is pretty decent, as is the dark, prolongued Alone from The Cure - the band haven't made my charts with new material since 2008, so in one welcome return they extend their chart run to 44 years. Finally, producer/songwriter and early band member Tony Hiller died recently, so his song from his biggest band drops in too - Angelo went top 3 for the Brotherhood Of Man in 1977, and is probably their best hit, though he also co-wrote stuff with Roger Cook - who features on many tracks here in Blue Mink oldies - including his first hit as a band member United We Stand in 1970, and he topped my chart as a songwriter with Cliff Richard's Sunny Honey Girl in 1971, also a Roger Cook co-write. October 12, 2024Oct 12 Hey John! Cry baby didn't really grab me for too long unfortunately and I'm currently not listening to it at all. Loving lifetimes at the moment 🎉🎉 Lights camera action is pretty decent for sure but it is my least favourite of Kylie's singles since tension. Fab chart ^_^
