Posted October 26, 2024Oct 26 20th October 2024 It's a first holiday week in Florida and I just got this in under the wire playing my ipod once of these tracks and youtube, cos the only new stuff I heard here is Gaga & Bruno. It's like the charts don't exist. Music is fragmented and parceled into genres for music video, radio and even in shops who are all showing how unique and interesting they are by signing up for an "attitude" and sticking to that theme no matter what. I've been coming to the USA since 1979, and the notion of massive pop hits from any number of genres getting airplay on single stations looks to be dead and buried, sadly. So, anyway, Tears For Fears top my chart for the 7th time in 42 years with a great rock ballad like they used to make, The Girl That I Call Home, Kylie charts 2 new tracks off her latest album Tension 2, Sophie Ellis-Bextor makes the most of her resurgence for 24 years of charting, though it didn't make the top 75 annoyingly, but in a linked new entry, Chesney Hawkes drops his best new single in 30 years along with a video of him aping that scene from that TV movie that got Murder On The Dancefloor to 2 all over again, and yes the video is filmed in the same place and he gets his kit off, and is looking pretty fine for someone who can recall the 70's and sings with his dad's band from the 60's. Jade gets a solo entry following the fragmenting of Little Mix, just ahead of Liam Payne's solo non-hit Teardrops re-entering after flopping in the UK charts and doing pretty well in mine, so it's no consolation that it took a tragic death to make it chart. I agree with sentiment that it's time the powers that be that provide production-line teen pop sensation cash-generators start to have accountability for mental well-being. It's just not good enough that those amounts of stress, brain-twisting emotional trauma and more money than they know how to deal with end so badly so often decade after decade.
