Nurses are being sacked because of a financial crisis in the NHS and servicemen and their families are being forced to live in squalor - yet Tony Blair clearly has other issues on his mind.

The Prime Minister has decided to hire a £50,000-a-year butler to ensure he and wife Cherie spend their final days in Downing Street in style.

The Cabinet Office secretly advertised for the 'new post of house manager' - Whitehall speak for butler - for an unnamed 'prestigious office at the centre of government'.

The Prime Minister was so determined to bury the appointment it took a request under Freedom of Information laws before Ministers were forced to admit the mysterious 'prestigious office' was No10.

The job description spells out the tasks of Mr Blair's very own 21st Century Jeeves

These include polishing the 'antiquities and silverware and preparing front of house staff' - as well as keeping a "VIP database" of the likes and dislikes of world leaders and celebrities to make sure they get five-star treatment when they visit.

The butler will also be expected to set up luxury hotel-style 'world class customer standards' at No10. And he must prevent the Blairs being disturbed in their Downing Street flat.

The advert says the newly-created post is part of a 'new management team' with responsibility for running a 40-strong 'downstairs' team including 'cleaners, custodians, security, hospitality and reception staff'.

Downing Street defended the job, saying: "We have thousands of visitors every year and it is a Grade One listed building, therefore it needs to be managed properly."

Typical bourgeois, middle-class BS.... <_< I hate social climbers with a passion... Who the fukk does this c/unt think he is....? If he wants to pay for it out of his own pocket, fine, but I'm betting he's gonna expect it to come out of the taxpayer.... <_<

and there was me thinking he was leaving in a few months
A £50k butler? Balderdash... my Uncle was the Head Butler for the Queen Mum and unless you work abroad, or work for a very wealthy, generous family, a head butler wouldn't earn more than £20 - 30k, even less if you work for the Royal household.

But Russ, remember it's not a 'Butler', oh no no NO.... It's a "House Manager"...... Yeah, right and a Nightclub Bouncer is a 'Door Technician'..... <_<

There is really nothing more detestable than the 'Petits Bourgeoisie', I think I hate them more than I hate the Upper Classes.....

when I lived in Bristol, I was a neighbour of Euan Blair...and he was every bit as vile and obnoxious as you'd imagine.... every night you'd see him larging it, making himself unpopular with his big "I am" attitude to the locals.... I can only imagine what the rest of this grotty crew are like... and we thought the Thatchers were disgusting... this lot seem even worse.

leave tony blair alone, why cant he have a butler?

Because he's not a bloody LORD for one thing... And, because he's certainly NOT going to pay for it out of his own pocket, the UK taxpayer will be expected the pick up the tab... It is a TOTALLY ridiculous situation, UK Prime Ministers have managed without the need for a sodding butler for hundreds of years, what makes the bloody Blairs so special that they need one....? <_<

if he read that youd upset him. would you rally wanna see him cry???

well, your going the right way about it...

i think hes brilliant

if he read that youd upset him. would you rally wanna see him cry???

Frankly, I'd rather he wept for all the Iraqi kids he's turned into orphans, or all the Iraqi parents who have had kids murdered by his and Bush's 'war of terror', ooops sorry, meant to say "war on terror" didn't I....? But that aint gonna happen, because the b/astard has no fukkin' soul or conscience, but instead has this almost pathological self-righteous sense of always feeling that he's right even when everyone says he's wrong...

You think he's brilliant..?? You silly little kid, you know nothing..... Even when I was at your age, I knew Thatcher was an evil b**ch, so youth is no excuse....

well, he seems nice enough. he always makes a few jokes at his speeches. but im not really interested in politics and presidents and things

"O villian, villain, smiling, damned villian!" - William Shakespeare, Hamlet.... Pretty much sums up how I feel about Blair and his public facade....

Mate, if you aint interested in politics, why are you posting here in the first place....? -_-
