Posted November 2, 2024Nov 2 27th October 2024 It's a second chart from Florida as I find XL106.7 is still broadcasting chart stuff of sorts, my station of choice back in the 90's and 00's, but to say the play-list is underwhelming would be being kind. Massive hits that have been around for 6 months to 3 years for the most part, plus The Weeknd and Bruno/Gaga, which climb as a result, along with SZA returning Saturn to the chart. That leaves the way clear for The Jackson 5 to top my chart with their 1972 fabulous oldie, Looking Through The Windows - probably their best record - and 1971's Never Can Say Goodbye to go top 10. Both peaked inside my top 3 but didn't quite get a chart-topper out of, so this belated number one gives The Jackson 5 a third track on pole 54 years since I'll Be There did it first, or a 5th counting Jacksons singles. Walk Away Renee gives The Four Tops a 4th oldie top 10 of the year, having topped my charts in the 00's, and Pet Shop Boys chart Left To My Own Devices for a third time following it selling well enough to chart in the Sales Chart for some reason I don't know. Kylie still in Padam mode is appealing for me, and Die With A Smile is a bit of airplay hit on radio, what an old-fashioned thing! :) Jungle, you have def been bigger on both this and Back On 74, I seem to be bigger on their less upbeat tracks, but I do love the mix of moods. Believer is still sounding good to me. I guess Sophie had to have a delay getting material together for her old label, but I guess most of the new fans were just for the track/movie and not really much delving into her ample back catalogue or new stuff, a pity as it's a great single. Left To My Own Devices was a bit divisive when it came out, as it wasn't a traditional song/melody as such, it's a structured wall of sound big dance tune built around a rap and a short hook, but Trevor Horn and the boys kept it interesting right throughout. Needs to played loud though to get the effect :) Yes, Chesney looking better now than he did in the 90's! Good to see it's selling well (as far as tracks can be said to be doing "well" on sales these days) thanks to Radio 2 plays and the video word of mouth I expect. thanks as always! B-)
