Now that we're fast approaching Christmas, it's the perfect time to declare Buzzjack's favourite Christmas song of the 21st Century! :cheer: Similar to the 20thC retro thread last year, we have decided to split the the century-so-far into two halves - the noughties and the tens! (2020 onwards is not welcome here...yet x :kink:)

Simply rank your top 5 Christmas songs of the noughties below. It can be any song released between January 2000 and December 2009 that fits the festive criteria - be it a single, an album track or a B-side. The TOP 10 songs of the 2000s will join the top 10 songs of the 2010s (the thread of which is just around the corner, courtesy of Roba :P) which will produce a top 20 final! :yahoo:

The deadline for this thread will be Saturday 7th December 2024, at 23:59pm.

Use this format please:

+5
+4
+3
+2
+1

Happy voting! :teresa:

(this isn't an exclusive list of eligible songs but very helpful for seeing what can constitute as a Christmas song https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Chris..._United_Kingdom - note that only charted singles feature on this list)

The 00s was probably the weakest decade for new Christmas songs for me, I certainly found more to love from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, and we had a renaissance in the 10s.

Very much with you there! I actually thought I’d struggle to compile a list of 5.

Although 2003 was weirdly stacked as we will see in the next Christmas chart thread :o not sure what was in the water that year, after the complete dearth of anything festive in 2002.

+5 Magnus Carlsson - Wrap Myself In Paper

'Never Had A Dream Come True' would be on here if it was somehow counted as a Christmas song but it's not. 'Perfect Christmas' however is and would be just outside mine (originally a +1 pointer for me). Also Tweenies one would get a nomination for me too :kink:

There was a lot of talk about the lack of new Xmas songs in the preceding few years so maybe concentrated the minds!

+5 George Michael - December Song (I Dreamed of Christmas)

+4 the Waterbabies - Under the Tree

+3 The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don’t Let the Bell End)

+2 Mumford & Sons - Winter Winds

+1 The Wombats - Is it Christmas?

Just missing are Mew and The Killers Great Big Sled & Don’t Shoot Me Santa!

The George Michael one is one of my favourite Xmas songs these days.

I would strongly encourage you to think of at least 3 more but if that's an impossible task then I'll allow it. :P (just don't want it to set a precedent for single song votes. :kink:)

+5 Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal (i'm guessing this counts)

+4 The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don’t Let The Bells End)

+3 Kylie Minogue – Santa Baby

+2 Gabriella Cilmi - Warm This Winter

+1 George Michael - December Song (I Dreamed of Christmas)

JUST about managed to scrape together a top 5 there. I was going to include Annie Lennox but that was 2010.

I'm just gonna echo a few essentials here to ensure they get through, can't honestly think of many classics from this era.

05; Fleet Foxes - White Winter Hymnal

04; Mumford & Sons - Winter Winds

03; The Water Babies - Under the Tree

02; Pet Shop Boys - It Doesn't Often Snow at Christmas

01; The Wombats - Is This Christmas

+05: Britney Spears - My Only Wish (This Year)

+04: Faith Hill - Where Are You Christmas?

+03: The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let the Bell Ends)

+02: Kate Winslet - What If

+01: Geraldine McQueen - Once Upon A Christmas Song

Could easily vote for more too!
