Posted November 30, 2024Nov 30 I’m aware that theres a big thread on one of the other forums about BA40. My q is Kylie related: How come Kylie or for that matter, any footage from Band-Aid 2 hasn’t been included in Band-Aid 40? They only seem to have included the 1984 2004 and 2014. Is there a contractual issue or is it that Band-Aid 2 featured mostly PWL artists that perhaps they don’t feel like showcasing in 2024? It’s almost as a BA2 never existed.
November 30, 2024Nov 30 Many think it's just been overlooked and others are saying there isn't enough room to make it part of the physical release so I don't know what the confirmed reason is. It's a pitty it's been overlooked as I still love this version and still play it every Christmas this version and the original are the only 2 I like.
November 30, 2024Nov 30 The official statement is that the original recordings could not be located in time - however, I think the fact it only came onto streaming a few years ago it might be a moment BA wish to forget. Shame it wasn’t included, it raised money for the charity and reached #1 - I’m sure if it had been included some Kylie collectors (myself included) would’ve picked up the newly re-issued vinyl and CD.
November 30, 2024Nov 30 Author Because frankly, in 2024: a 1989 Kylie’s value would be higher than a Rita Ora or dido (who are featured in the video). Or even Olly Murs for that matter

It did well at the time and it really shouldnt be overlooked as its like 2 fingers up to the artists and also the fans that supported it, If it was included i would have bought the vinyl and cd if this version was on it.
December 15, 2024Dec 15 This version gets far too much dissing. The versions that followed are so much weaker.
December 15, 2024Dec 15 Bob Geldof recently claimed that version is "unofficial", which I actually thought was really rude and disrespectful of him. What a twunt.
December 15, 2024Dec 15 Bob Geldof recently claimed that version is "unofficial", which I actually thought was really rude and disrespectful of him. What a twunt. So rude to dismiss it - also hilarious he thinks it’s ‘unofficial’ when it’s on the official Band Aid YT page and label for streaming, seemingly the won’t be collecting royalties from it for charity too then if it’s unofficial.
December 16, 2024Dec 16 Did Bob Geldof not make contact with Pete Waterman to record it, Pete cleared his diary to get everything organised for it.
December 16, 2024Dec 16 Plus all the ‘official’ versions give the first lines to men. The first version was so male dominant. Band Aid 2 has a much better vocal mix that they could have used. Anyway the latest version hasn’t done very well. Weird how Band Aid 2 was included on the OFFICIAL 2014 CD release.
December 16, 2024Dec 16 Here's the full exchange: Bob Geldof: Explaining why Band Aid II doesn't feature in the 'Ultimate Mix', Geldof told Radio X: "We asked Pete Waterman where the tapes (for Band Aid II) were and he went 'I don't know'. (Then) Stock – what's Stock's actual name? Mike Stock got a bit miffed and said, 'I could have found them'." The Boomtown Rats frontman added: "We would have put it in, but these are the three Band Aid official singles. "They very brilliantly and beautifully and wonderfully went off and it went to Number One and gave us some money." Mike Stock: Stock took to social media to hit back at Geldof reducing the second version of the single - which featured Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan and Bananarama - to a "footnote". The 72-year-old music producer wrote on X: "The thing is Sir Bob, while you were outside being feted, lauded and fawned over by the press and TV media, I was the one inside putting the whole thing together. "You can imagine my surprise to learn that all the effort involved in bringing Band Aid 2 to the attention of the world is now being dismissed and reduced to the level of 'unofficial'. A mere footnote in the history of Band Aid. "This is at variance with the general view of the record buyers who supported the cause at the time and loved the record. A feeling which persists to this day. As well as unnecessary diminution in the integrity of the charitable trust. I mean, why on earth did all those artists turn up?" Stock suggested that the decision to omit Band Aid II could harm the latest version of the single as many of the acts featured on the record "are still relevant today". He wrote: "It also reflects badly on the commercial potential of the 2024 version to leave out the artists who were involved in 'Band Aid 2'. Many of whom are still relevant today. "All in all a bit of a mistake if the aim is to maximise appeal in order to raise the most money for the cause. Instead of which decisions appear to have been made on a different basis. People have speculated about this."
December 17, 2024Dec 17 I totally agree with Mike Stock, i think the way the version has been treated now is awful, love or hate the version everyone involved gave up their time to record it and it raised money which was the main goal that was successfully achieved. Its also insulting to fans of this version of the song.
