91 Will Linley - Just Because I Called You | 3-6-12-17-24-31-x

92 honestav feat. Z - I’d Rather Overdose | 10-5-14-19-21-32-38-x

93 Lisa Ajax - Awful Liar | 7-5-7-17-23-39-x

94 Chappell Roan - Good Luck, Babe! | 15-9-13-32-37-x

95 Rita Ora feat. Keith Urban - Shape of Me | 8-6-14-21-31-x

96 Nemo - The Code | 4-5-19-30-x

97 Madison Beer - Make You Mine | 12-10-26-31-x

98 Charlie Puth - Hero | 12-8-7-11-18-26-34-40-x

99 Albin Tingwall - Done Getting Over You | 4-12-15-16-33-x

100 Ouse & Promoting Sounds - stay for a while | 6-5-14-32-x

Just slipping into the top 100 is the first top 10 hit for Icelandic singer, rapper and producer Ouse without friend and regular collaborator Powfu in tow. He'd charted once, in October 2023, on his own after I saw him supporting, you guessed it, Powfu, but this track took him a step higher in his own right. Released in conjunction with the Promoting Sounds channel, stay for a while has great production for a lo-fi track, and Ouse's vocals sell the emotion really well. It's just one spot below Albin Tingwall's breakthrough hit; Done Getting Over You was part of Melodifestivalen 2024, making it to what resembles the second chance stage nowadays, whilst Lisa Ajax made it directly to the final with her surprisingly effective ballad Bad Liar, which became Lisa's first top 10 hit as a primary artist in my chart. Neither of these made it to actual Eurovision of course, unlike Nemo, who won the entire contest for Switzerland. The Code didn't do loads for me on first play pre-contest, but seeing the impressive performance alongside Nemo's infallible vocals did more than enough to win me over.

A suggestion from Bré, singer/rapper honestav scored a breakthrough top 5 hit near the start of the year with viral track I'd Rather Overdose, though it remains his only hit so far. Chappell Roan interestingly also has only one hit in my chart so far, with breakthrough track Good Luck, Babe! hitting my top 10 very early into its UK chart life. Madison Beer came within touching distance of her first solo top 40 hit with the fantastic Make You Mine, which charted quite late for me after I saw the clips of its excellent video going viral. Nevertheless, it's one I've gone back to a lot over the year, so has very much overperformed here! Blocked from the top 10 by the Girls Aloud concert boost initially, Charlie Puth still made his way to the top tier with Hero, which is definitely my favourite of his releases since the CHARLIE album came out in 2022, and Will Linley matched his highest position to date with the catchy Just Because I Called You in late summer, scoring his biggest hit of the year. Finally, an unusual team-up between Rita Ora and Keith Urban led to one of my favourite early-year hits in a rework of Rita's 2023 album track Shape of Me. Their voices work surprisingly well together and it brings out the best in one of the album's top tracks! Rita has an even bigger hit from 2024 still to come.

Giving Will Linley - Just Because I Called You a listen now given I enjoyed Gracie from your EOY last year. Quite a different vibe - certainly a song showing the complications of relationships and human emotions.
'i always kinda knew you’d be the death of me' is great, the best I heard from Artemas since his big hit (almost like a slowed down version of it). I also like 'Make You Mine' a lot, shame it never made the official Top 40 but it was a decent sized hit anyway!
I remember hearing 'Make You Mine' for the first time and being amazed that it was Madison Beer! She's been so persistent releasing music for 10+ years now so well done to her finally getting somewhat of a big career moment, and with SUCH a good song too! A shame it didn't quite make the top 40, maybe it could've back when EDM-pop was more prevalent but it's still a 10/10 bop even now.

Thanks everyone for the comments!!

Definitely a different vibe - I think this one is largely representative of his music, but for something more like Gracie, you might like miss me (when you're gone)!

With any luck it would've had a viral moment itself to give Artemas a third hit...!

I've had a similar trajectory with Madison as I've had with Sabrina - paid them more attention early on, drifted for a bit, then they won me back last year  hopefully Madison's got some more great tracks coming on an album of that sound!

'The Code' was an worthy winner of the Eurovision Song Contest.

Agreed for sure!

81 dearALICE - Classic | 5-6-16-32-x

82 glaive - tijuana freestyle | 10-8-22-22-22-32-x

83 Maria Sur - Dance Alone | 6-6-7-9-…

84 Taylor Swift - I Can Do It With a Broken Heart | 25-32-26-8-8-15-19-25-34-x

85 Sabrina Carpenter - Please Please Please | 8-4-9-18-27-37-x

86 Conan Gray - Lonely Dancers | 3-6-15-25-35-39-x

87 Cazzi Opeia - Give My Heart a Break | 11-8-10-19-20-38-x

88 Boy In Space - Dancing on Dynamite | 3-5-11-18-25-35-x

89 ..villa? - 5555 | 7-11-17-34-x

90 Griff - last night's mascara | 4-11-17-24-25-25-…

A few months after the release of her album, Griff released a brand new single. last night's mascara featured only as a demo on the deluxe CD at first, but its addition to the album has been hugely welcomed. It features Griff's best songwriting to date, and matched with the sublime production and Griff's incredible voice, it makes what could be my favourite Griff song to date. Conan Gray also excelled on the production front in 2024, with Lonely Dancers continuing his commitment to the 80s vibe throughout the Found Heaven era. It was his first hit of the year, and is his highest in my EOY for 2024. Taylor Swift also loses her top song of the year here, with I Can Do It With a Broken Heart always being a standout from its parent album, but it took a few weeks to kick in as a single for me. The Eras Tour was what finally gave it the boost it needed to become her 27th top 10 hit. It's a tally that Boy In Space reached with Dancing on Dynamite, his penultimate hit of the year, and the first from his forthcoming project. He scored another hit after that which is still to come, as are two hits from his Copium EP.

In addition to Boy In Space, Sweden makes a big impression on this section. Cazzi Opeia is best known as a songwriter, with a large array of K-Pop songs in her catalogue as well as Loreen's Eurovision winner Tattoo, but she attempted to represent Sweden at the contest herself by entering Melodifestivalen for the second time (also competing against her own co-write, Effortless by Jacqline). Though I enjoyed her previous entry I Can't Get Enough, it was Give Your Heart a Break that gave Cazzi her first top 10 hit. Maria Sur also returned to Melfest in 2024, but more on her entry later on, as its follow-up, recent hit Dance Alone, is the first of her two songs to fall out this year. Away from Melfest, new artist ..villa? also represented Sweden in my chart this year. 5555 is his only release to date, despite his Spotify biography saying it would be taken from an EP released in 2024, but it's a track that's stuck with me well over the year. I love how delicate his vocals sound over the building production. At the other end of the spectrum, sonically speaking, is glaive's standalone release tijuana freestyle. With its violent lyrics and bold production, it's a unique hit in my chart, but ends up as his second best performing track of the year. Sabrina Carpenter loses a UK #1 in Please Please Please, the first of them to drop out in my top 100, whilst dearALICE close the section with Classic, a song from the fourth episode of Made in Korea. It's one of their catchiest tracks and I love the melody of the chorus, so no surprise that it was an instant top 5 hit upon release.

71 Metteson - Last Resort | 18-12-4-3-11-27-38-x

72 Jonah Marais feat. Ryan Lewis - Slow Motion | 4-5-7-8-10-…

73 Ruel - Hollywood | 4-12-15-15-23-25-34-39-x

74 Boy In Space - The Last Time | 2-6-11-28-34-x

75 Shaboozey - A Bar Song (Tipsy) | 7-4-7-23-25-x-27-x

76 44phantom - perfect feeling | 1-5-12-13-27-27-x

77 The Kid LAROI - Goodbye | 2-3-7-…

78 Shawn Mendes - Why Why Why | 4-10-12-20-21-30-36-x

79 dearALICE - Life is a Movie | 4-5-15-31-x

80 Alec Benjamin - Pick Me | 4-7-18-20-27-x

Just falling into the bottom quarter of the top 100 is the first #1 to drop. 44phantom released perfect feeling on YouTube in late 2022, around the time I discovered him. I was waiting for a proper drop on Spotify for a long time, and early 2024 finally saw its release on an EP appropriately called about time. It's definitely my favourite song of his to date, perfectly encapsulating the pop/rock sound with a really strong melody too, and it became his first and only #1 so far upon its eventual release. We also lose a couple of #2 hits here, one of which being a surprise release from The Kid LAROI which was included on Juice WRLD's latest posthumous album as a tribute to his mentor. It was only blocked from #1 by Laroi himself - no shock there! It's still in my chart as we speak, as is Jonah Marais's biggest hit of the year. Slow Motion arrived near the end of 2024 and became his first solo top 5 hit, and the first for featured producer Ryan Lewis, best known for his team-ups with Macklemore. The other #2 hit comes from Boy In Space, who continued an unlucky run of approaching the top spot but not quite making it with The Last Time, the third single from Copium. The EP's lead single, also a #2 hit, is still in.

Going up against a Kid LAROI album drop is never a good move in my chart, as Shawn Mendes found out when Why Why Why could only get to #4, surrounded by the impact of Laroi's deluxe album drop (with three songs ahead and three songs behind!). Nevertheless, it was his biggest hit of 2024 and a great track to reignite my excitement ahead of his new album. Alec Benjamin also peaked at #4 with Pick Me, a cute, comedic track about dating apps, as did dearALICE with one of the most infectious songs on their EP, leaving just their first track, Vibes, in the running. Ruel also found his way to #4 over the summer with my favourite track from his covers EP Adaptations. Hollywood is a cover of Tobias Jesso Jr.'s song, a much less famous track than the rest of the EP, but it slots in seamlessly around Ruel's discography. Shaboozey took his viral hit A Bar Song (Tipsy) to #4, just one spot below its UK peak, whilst Metteson managed a #3 peak with Last Resort, the follow-up to 2023 #1 hit Waves, and his highest track of the year.

61 Mark Ambor - Belong Together | 4-11-23-22-25-x

62 Annie - The Sky Is Blue | 1-2-6-14-17-24-x

63 Maria Sur - When I'm Gone | 6-4-4-9-11-27-39-x

64 Knox - Invisible | 2-2-5-9-19-28-32-x

65 Kesha - JOYRIDE | 3-4-10-14-20-34-x

66 Croixx - Higher | 9-3-8-13-19-33-x

67 Ariana Grande - we can't be friends (wait for your love) | 7-5-11-12-26-30-37-39-39-x

68 Mason vs Princess Superstar - Perfect (Exceeder) | 2-5-9-19-23-x

69 Alyssa Reid - Never Going Home | 1-5-13-15-27-32-x

70 Kylie Minogue - Lights Camera Action | 2-5-14-25-25-40-x

A couple more chart toppers depart in this section as we race towards the top 40! Though she only has one hit to her name in the UK chart, Alyssa Reid scored her seventh chart-topper with the disco-influenced Never Going Home. It had a brief run overall as it ultimately got a bit overshadowed by a busy period immediately after, but I think it's fair to say nobody expected Alyssa to be anywhere near my top spot over twelve years after her breakthrough hit. An even more impressive span of hits is seen in Annie's discography. With her first single released in 1999, I discovered Annie with her commercial breakthrough hit Chewing Gum back in 2004. Though her music releases are few and far between (she's only released three studio albums in this time), the quality is consistently strong, and though Chewing Gum would undoubtedly have been a chart-topper for me, the trancey The Sky Is Blue became her first actual #1 hit in my chart at the end of summer.

The first new #1 of 2024 wasn't really a new song. Classic hit Murder on the Dancefloor by Sophie Ellis-Bextor found its way at the top of my chart for the first time, having initially charted back in 2012 when I discovered Sophie's music. Of course, its virality came from Saltburn, a movie which I still haven't seen. Nevertheless, it locked out my top 2 that week, as Mason and Princess Superstar's classic hit Perfect (Exceeder) debuted at #2. You may be wondering why this features in my EOY whilst Sophie's song does not, but I hadn't knowingly heard Perfect (Exceeder) before 2024, so it was a brand new discovery for me, whilst Sophie's classic song has long established itself a firm favourite of mine, so including it felt unfair.

New artists Croixx and Mark Ambor found themselves in my top 5 this year with their breakthrough hits. Whilst the latter made a splash on the international charts, Croixx remains relatively unknown, and I'm excited to see what his next release will bring. It was a hit at a similar time to Kesha's triumphant comeback hit JOYRIDE, which reached her highest position in my chart since 2017 #1 hit Praying. Kylie Minogue scored her biggest hit of 2024 with Lights Camera Action, the single that properly launched the Tension II era, while Ariana Grande scored a respectable chart run with the sublime we can't be friends (wait for your love). Whilst it was her highest song in the UK EOY chart, it's her second highest here! Finally, Melodifestivalen banger When You're Gone gave Maria Sur her first top 10 hit in early 2024, and it's the fourth highest track from last year's contest.

51 Benson Boone - Cry | 2-5-16-15-21-31-18-34-38-39-34-40-x-26-x

52 Alec Benjamin - In a Little | 5-3-11-12-17-21-24-30-37-x

53 Lay Bankz - Tell Ur Girlfriend | 4-5-3-6-21-24-x

55 Chance Peña - Blackbird | 21-17-26-x-3-3-7-11-11-21-22-28-36-x

56 Kygo & Ava Max - Whatever | 4-7-9-20-22-26-38-x

57 Michael Aldag - olivia | 25-3-6-11-26-35-x

58 Boy In Space - Too Much to Lose | 6-7-13-16-21-23-24-…

59 JADE - Angel of My Dreams | 4-4-9-21-23-23-27-29-35-x

60 Knox - Treadmill | 3-4-7-15-21-25-39-x

After making his debut in 2022, Knox has been perfecting the art of pop/rock bangers, and Treadmill has solidified itself as one of his best since its release over the summer. I must shout out his lovely midtempo track Invisible too, a #2 hit that was featured in the previous section, but its name was very apt as I completely overlooked it in the commentary! Both tracks are among a tally of 16 top 10 hits that Knox has accumulated, but he's still seeking that elusive #1. The top spot's been harder for Boy In Space to find recently too, but the country-tinged Too Much to Lose has become one of his most enduring hits of recent times despite an underwhelming-seeming peak of #6, worsened by releasing on the same week as dearALICE's EP, which debuted three songs above Boy In Space's track! Michael Aldag also couldn't quite make it to #1 with any of his songs in 2024, after a duo of chart-toppers in 2023, but album track olivia made a late surge after I saw him live in October. It had always been a favourite of mine from the album but its live performance gave it that extra kick! He still has one more song to come this year. Album tracks from Benson Boone and Alec Benjamin feature at the top of the section too - they're the highest non-singles from their respective albums, but both have multiple singles still in the running.

One of the most innovative tracks of the year, JADE stormed into my top 5 with debut solo single Angel of My Dreams. It was the second track from a Little Mix member to make my top 10 (a tally that now stands at four), with the first track (from Jade's bandmate Perrie) still in the running this year. Lay Bankz made a huge debut in my chart with viral hit Tell Ur Girlfriend, inspired by Ginuwine's classic track Pony, while Kygo and Ava Max teamed up for a song that interpolates Shakira's 11/10 smash Whenever, Wherever. Divisive on BuzzJack, I've always enjoyed their remake of the song in its own right, and it's actually the second interpolation of Whenever, Wherever that I've charted (though this is my favourite). It's just one spot behind Chance Peña's Blackbird, a song that first made my top 20 in an acoustic version recorded for A Colors Show, before it re-entered my chart at Chance's personal best position of #3 upon the release of the main version on his album. Finally, glaive's biggest hit of 2024 is taken from latest album May It Never Falter. For God and Country is the album's opener, and seems to be a sequel to the opening song, oh are you bipolar one or two?, from his previous album. That track served as glaive's suicide note, while For God and Country marks a notable change in his attitude, with its building production complementing the power in lyrics like "it just isn't over yet". It's a surprisingly euphoric track, and it's on its way to cementing itself as one of his very best for me.

Alec Benjamin is another one I hadn't realised released new music this year! Giving In A Little now, it's a very sweet song, quite enjoying it.

Glad you like it Pete, the album is really strong as a whole too

41 ROSÉ - toxic till the end | 1-2-…

42 Marcus & Martinus - Love Flow | 16-11-2-7-16-20-27-x

43 Sabrina Carpenter - Espresso | 13-12-8-5-17-20-37-x-23-37-x

44 Powfu, Ouse & Ryan Librada - digital crush | 2-6-11-16-26-29-34-x

45 Sabrina Carpenter - Taste | 1-4-4-9-15-20-29-36-x

46 Majestic, The Jammin Kid & Céline Dion - Set My Heart On Fire (I'm Alive x And the Beat Goes On) | 9-5-4-6-11-19-29-36-x

47 Rita Ora - Ask & You Shall Receive | 1-2-3-8-17-22-29-x

48 Charli xcx & Billie Eilish - Guess | 3-11-12-13-21-23-26-29-32-x

49 Dasha - Austin (Boots Stop Workin') | 18-22-18-19-18-11-7-9-24-27-x

50 Porter Robinson - Cheerleader | 3-3-6-16-24-25-28-x

Every year, I always say how much I love a surprise in music, and one of the best surprises of the year was just how good Porter Robinson's comeback was. Cheerleader is a song packed full of energy, with a massive chorus and a vibe inspired by punk-pop that's so far away from Language, the only Porter song I knew beforehand. The result was Porter's first ever hit in my chart, so shoutout to Seven for an amazing recommendation! The punk-pop vibe was also channelled by Powfu in digital crush, a catchy track that marked his first release of 2024. It was one of three #2 hits he achieved last year (the other two are still to come), as his wait for a third #1 hits three and a half years...! Rita Ora is no stranger to the #1 spot though, and 2024 brought her a sixteenth chart-topper in standalone bop Ask & You Shall Receive, which finished as her best performing song of the year. ROSÉ also hit the top spot last year, achieving the final new #1 of the tracking period with toxic till the end, which is still in my top 10. ROSÉ hit the top spot as part of BLACKPINK, alongside Dua Lipa on Kiss and Make Up, which was #6 EOY in 2018. She still has one solo track to feature this year! Also with one track remaining are Marcus & Martinus, as album track Love Flow, which is an English language cover of K-Pop track WANT by TAEMIN. It couldn't quite hit #1, but they did notch up two weeks at the top with another song in 2024... more on that later!

In terms of UK chart hits, one of the most pleasing top 40 hits of the year for me came from Set My Heart on Fire, a mash-up of Céline Dion's underrated classic I'm Alive, and The Whispers' And the Beat Goes On. This was put together by Majestic and The Jammin Kid, and gave Céline her first top 40 hit in eleven years! It's a genius track I find, and was one of the defining tracks of the early summer. Of course, summer 2024 belonged to Sabrina Carpenter, who features two tracks in this section. Espresso gave Sabrina her first top 10 hit in three and a half years and kicked off a massive era, where three further top 10 hits arrived, including Taste, Sabrina's third #1, and her first as a primary artist! Both of those songs were UK #1 hits, as was Guess, from Charli xcx and Billie Eilish. A remix of a deluxe BRAT song, Guess felt like the perfect storm between Charli and Billie, and Billie really elevates the track with her verse. It peaked at #3 in my chart and became Billie's highest peaking song. Finally, it took seven weeks to make my top 10, but Dasha's boots didn't stop working as her viral hit really stayed with me throughout the spring. Its chart run obviously doesn't have a patch on its exceptional top 10 stay in the UK, though it places remarkably well for a non-top 5 hit - just one other non-top 5 hit is remaining in this year's countdown!

Make your predictions and back your favourites!

Great to see 'toxic till the end' so high despite the late release. It's also snap for where it's ended in my list too.

'Austin' has definitely been my favourite of the country-crossovers we've had in the UK charts of recent times.

Double Sabrina in the last section  I'm so happy with how much she's taken-over in the past year.

So happy to see that 'Made You Mine' made your top 100. It goes off live! I'm praying for Madison to have a Sabrina-esque breakthrough soon.

I'm shocked that you weren't too familiar with 'Perfect (Exceeder)' before the year, I thought it was a classic of the 00s that everyone would have known :o

My guess will be that Benson Boone ends up toping your list! I'm most intrigued to see where Ariana lands.

I was delighted that Troye Sivan decided to be one of the few artists nowadays to release a post-album single when Honey was confirmed for release in 2024. It was an immediate favourite of mine upon the release of album Something to Give Each Other, which had already produced three top 10 hits in my chart, two of which found themselves in my EOY top 40 last year. Though a digital remix EP was released for Honey, including an edited single version, the album version remains the superior edition of the track for me, with plenty of time to breathe as the euphoric drops aren't sacrificed. Honey impacted my chart in the run-up to Troye's tour, which I attended in June, and it saw its peak position of #3 in that week, matching the peak position of both Rush and One of Your Girls.

39 Benson Boone - Death Wish Love | 1-3-5-14-19-16-22-24-32-38-x-33-x

Just three months after the release of his debut album, Benson Boone returned to #1 in my chart with a brand new song. Though he's topped my chart with every single he's released, Death Wish Love is something of a footnote, as it wasn't ever pushed as a single. It's featured on the soundtrack to Twisters, and Benson's name stands out among a field that's mostly made up of country artists. Nevertheless, it's proved to be one of the more popular songs on the album, having the third most streams of all 29 (!) songs included. New Benson debuting at #1 in my chart obviously wasn't a surprise, though it's the first of his 2024 #1 hits to drop. I had the pleasure of hearing his very first live performance of Death Wish Love at his first of two shows at O2 Academy Brixton in November 2024, which gave the song a late re-entry. Of course, Benson still has three songs in the running, being one of only four primary artists to place multiple songs in my top 40 (or six if you include any credit).

38 Ulrik Munther & Free Will - This Right Here | 1-1-3-12-14-27-31-27-29-35-39-x

Swedish singer/songwriter Ulrik Munther is perhaps best known for Melodifestivalen, where he placed third in both 2012 and 2013 in his attempts to represent Sweden at Eurovision. Since departing his major label, Ulrik's become much more of a niche artist, making less commercial music, but his voice sounds as great as ever. This Right Here was his only release of 2024, complete with an AI generated artwork and promotional material, and the co-crediting of an artist known as Free Will, which appears to just be a side Instagram account for the tie-in AI content rather than an actual artist. Nevertheless, the song nicely picks up from where Ulrik's last album left off, adding in a bouncy 80s-inspired production to create a package that gave Ulrik his eleventh chart-topper, and first since 2021. Hopefully this is the start of a new album era from Ulrik as I'm already craving another new single!

37 Ruel - Made It Awkward | 1-3-5-8-…

To kickstart his second album era, Ruel shaved his long locks off and debuted a new buzzcut look. Those who know me well will know this is just about the least Joseph-friendly thing you can do...! The good news was that Ruel's music quality has remained high, and that's what's most important. Lead single Cats on the Ceiling peaked at #3, but its follow-up, Made It Awkward, returned Ruel to the #1 spot for the first time since 2022's YOU AGAINST YOURSELF, which ended up as my EOY #1 that year. Made It Awkward is a brilliant continuation of the sound Ruel has carved for himself, with long-time collaborator M-Phazes on production once again. I'm very much looking forward to the new album, hopefully coming this year! Hopefully the clippers don't make a comeback too x :sarah:
