“A Song For The Lovers” was inpsired by Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart” and originally written for The Verve’s “Urban Hymns” album, but left on the cutting room floor. Instead it became Richard Ashcroft’s debut solo single and reached #3 in April 2000. The video includes him paying a visit to the bathroom with sound effects!
