February 7, 200718 yr From a blog found by Janet on the O/S  Yesterday we went to see Will Young leading in the Noel Coward play "The Vortex." After the obligatory "I think I'd better leave right now" gags from all and sundry in my party, we settled down to watch what was actually a pretty impressive turn from the Pop Idol turned actor. I am not a particularly sophisticated theatre-goer, but I know when I'm entertained (the secret is whether I start thinking about traffic-calming measures in Prestwich during the action, or keep my mind on the story. Actually, who am I kidding, my mind is far more likely to turn to football and girls than anything else. If it's a REALLY bad play I might start thinking about traffic calming!). And entertained I was last night. It was the last play of the season, and once again I am going to renew my season ticket for the next one. Four Saturday night plays for £45 can't be beat. Will asked Amy if she was coming to see the play - "it's funny". And it is, particularly the first half. But even the sadness of the characters is portrayed in an amusing way. I've only been the once but I think it's been very cleverly portrayed. I'm going again on the last night and am really looking forward to seeing how it's progressed and evolved. I do so hope this brings in more work for him, and how much has it helped his songwriting and eventual emotional rendition of his songs. Who'd have thought we would ever hear/see Will lose it in such a way. Edited February 7, 200718 yr by munchkin
February 7, 200718 yr Phone call from my daughter - a friend of a friend went last week and absolutely raved about the play. He's a seasoned theatre-goer and thought Will was fantastic as were the rest of the cast, can't wait to go again! Thanks to Brenda on D. :D

February 8, 200718 yr Author It's the aftershow discussion tonight. Anyone know what format this takes? Doesn't the audience get to ask questions to the actors and the director Jo Coombes?

February 8, 200718 yr That is such a lovely story - thanks for bringing it over. All these lovely reports really does show up the nasty comments made in the past, usually by people with an axe to grind.
February 8, 200718 yr If any of these nasty stories pop up again...there will be hundreds of fans who can dispute them  and not from hearsay but from first hand knowledge of meeting the lovely and charming man himself
February 8, 200718 yr Author A little snippet from Hobbie about the after show discussion tonight, I expect we'll get more info in the morning. Hobbie wrote: All except Bunty was there. Will had a pint Someone asked what was the difference between tour and theatre, he said they don't put the spotlight on me here and I've been here 3 bloody weeks!
February 9, 200718 yr Posted by Bumbling :D He was also asked whether doing the play was more difficult than his singing "job" and he said yes it was as he has to get along with everybody whereas with singing he can tell everybody what to do
February 9, 200718 yr Just thought I'd bring the new poster over. Thanks to Maggie on Devoted. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v288/maggie3/DSCN2580.jpg
