Derby-winning jockey Adam Kirby has officially announced his retirement from the saddle.

William Buick rode his 2,000th British winner and immediately targeted another 1,000.

The 36-year-old brought up the landmark with victory on El Cordobes, trained by Charlie Appleby, in the Princess of Wales's Stakes at Newmarket.

Buick kicked clear in the final three furlongs to record a two-length win over Wimbledon Hawkeye.

French favourite Calandagan came from behind to pass Kalpana and win the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot.

Calandagan, ridden by Mickael Barzalona, provided trainer Francis-Henri Graffard with his second successive triumph after Goliath last year.

The 11-10 favourite's attitude was questioned after he lost out in a tight finish to Jan Brueghel in the Coronation Cup at Epsom last month but there was no doubting his resolution this time.

"I'm so pleased for this horse," said Graffard after Calandagan, running in the green and red colours of the Aga Khan, won by a length.

Jan Brueghel, trained by Aidan O'Brien, made the running at a steady pace before eventual runner-up Kalpana hit the front going to the final furlong.

Rebel's Romance, who was boxed in on the rail, finished third in the five-runner race.

Very sad to hear about the news of Trueshan suffering an fatal injury when pulling up in the Goodwood Cup at Goodwood today.

Whirl powered through gruelling conditions at Glorious Goodwood to land the Group 1 Nassau Stakes for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore.

The race was subject to a ten-minute delay and began under a flag start rather than from the stalls due to safety concerns as torrential rain lashed Goodwood and turned the ground heavy.

Groundbreaking rider Sibylle Vogt has been banned for six months by France Galop stewards after testing positive for metabolites of cocaine at Compiegne in March, although she mounted a similar defence to that which gained partial success in other high-profile cases.

The Swiss-born Vogt is based in Germany with Peter Schiergen and became the first woman to win a major European Classic on Novemba in the 2021 German 1,000 Guineas.

Vogt already had an international profile thanks to her victory in the Saudi Cup jockeys challenge the previous February, and has won ten Group races in Germany.

Vogt accepted the adverse sample findings but pleaded for a more lenient sentence than the standard six months for a first offence, arguing that she had not taken or knowingly come into contact with cocaine, but believed she had suffered contamination through a sexual partner.
