The old MTV European Top 20 chart, which had been broadcast on MTV Europe for more than 20 years, ended in 2012. However, it looks like since January 4, 2014 some European "chart" has started being broadcast again on MTV Europe. The chart is broadcast on Fridays from 8:30 to 9:45 CET; on Saturdays from 9:30 to 10:45 CET; and on Sundays from 6:00 to 7:15 CET.

At first the chart seemed to be a Top 40 but in later years MTV Europe sometimes showed positions between number 50 and number 41, indicating a Top 50. However, not all the positions were shown - some of them were skipped each week. It was also notable that the upper part of this chart was basically the same as the "Euro Top 20" chart broadcast on MTV Italy.

However, in February 2021 there was a change in the way the chart was being made. Soon after, MTV Europe started showing just a Top 20. And since May 2022 the chart's name has changed to "MTV Top 20".

1 Jennie - Like Jennie NEW

Strange things are happening with The Weeknd's chart runs. "Timeless" climbs back to its peak position 19-3 while his newer single "Cry For Me" has left the chart straight from number 4.

Until this edition of the chart Jennie had reached a peak position of number 2 - achieved by "One Of The Girls" (together with The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp). Now she becomes the third member of BLACKPINK to score a number 1 - "Like Jennie" - after Lisa and Rosé. Only Jisoo is yet to top the chart as a solo artist.

3 Doechii - Anxiety NEW

2 Lady GaGa & Bruno Mars - Die With A Smile Stay =>

1 Chappell Roan - The Giver NEW

"Die With A Smile" by Lady GaGa and Bruno Mars is at number 2 for an ELEVENTH week - I think this is a record. What's even more interesting is that if that's true, it would actually equal the record as recently another song with the participation of Bruno Mars also spent ELEVEN weeks at number 2 - "APT." (a duet with Rosé). Both songs have additionally spent a week at the very top of the chart.

Until this edition of the chart Chappell Roan had reached a peak position of number 2 - achieved by "Pink Pony Club" just 2 weeks ago. Now "The Giver" becomes her first number 1.

1 Chappell Roan - The Giver Stay =>

There are two songs titled "Anxiety" simultaneously in this edition of the chart - the original version by Doechii is at number 4 while Sleepy Hallow's version, which samples it, is a new entry at number 16.

"The Giver" by Chappell Roan spends a second consecutive week at the top - something extremely remarkable in recent years! Last year only one song spent 2 (nonconsecutive) weeks at number 1 - "Espresso" by Sabrina Carpenter. EVERY SINGLE other chart-topper in 2024 enjoyed merely one week at number 1.

...And what was the last song to spend 2 consecutive weeks at the top? "As It Was" by Harry Styles in 2022 - THREE YEARS AGO!

PinkPantheress enters the chart at the very top with "Tonight". The question is whether this is her first number 1?

I missed the chart of February 18, 2023. For some reason during that period there were 2 editions of the chart broadcast on MTV Hits (which usually is the same as this one) - the chart-toppers in those 2 editions were "Lavender Haze" by Taylor Swift and another song by PinkPantheress - "Boy's A Liar".

This week's chart-topper is completely absurd. Damiano David has already scored 3 number ones as a member of Måneskin - "I Wanna Be Your Slave", "If I Can Dream" and "Honey Are U Coming?". However, "FUNNY little STORIES" isn't a single - this is not just one song. It's actually a video promoting Damiano's album "FUNNY little FEARS"; it includes parts of several songs from the album as well as some spoken parts... Is this becoming an album chart?!...
