Posted January 16, 200718 yr Quick intro Pink (born Alecia Beth Moore on September 8, 1979), also known as P!nk, is an American singer-songwriter who first gained prominence in North America in early 2000 as a pop and R&B musician, before adding elements of rock into her later material. She is known for her unorthodox clothing fashion and harsh yet soulful sound. Pink was named number twelve in the UK Music Hall of Fame of the twenty-first century, and her vocal skills have been compared to those of the late Janis Joplin, whom she cites as one of her idols. Pink released her first record, Can't Take Me Home, in 2000. In 2001 she collaborated with Christina Aguilera, Lil'Kim and Mýa for the Moulin Rouge! soundtrack cut "Lady Marmalade", which became one of the year's best-selling singles. Her pop rock-influenced second studio album, M!ssundaztood, was released later that year and is her biggest seller to date, producing three top ten hits in the U.S. 2003's Try This, her third album, failed to match the success of M!ssundaztood. After taking a break, Pink released her fourth studio album, I'm Not Dead, in 2006 which was a huge success worldwide. Early Life Pink was born in Elkins Park, Pennsylvania to Vietnam veteran James Moore and nurse Judy Kugel. She is of Jewish ancestry on her mother's side, and also has Irish, German and Lithuanian heritage. P!nk has referred to herself as Jewish. She grew up in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, where she attended Central Bucks west High School. Her father played guitar and sang songs for her, and from an early age she aspired to be a rock star. Her parents divorced when she was seven years old. While in high school, Pink joined her first "official" band, Middle Ground, but the band never took off. She has said that they "really sucked". According to Pink, her biggest influences are Janis Joplin, Steven Tyler, Bad Religion, Mary J. Blige, Bob Marley, Billy Joel, Indigo Girls, Don McLean, Tupac, and B.I.G. She performed in Philadelphia clubs when she was fourteen years old. At the age of 13 she took to drugs but gave them up when she was 16, when she signed a record deal with an R&B trio called Choice, in Atlanta. They recorded some songs and contributed "Key to My Heart" to the soundtrack of the 1996 film Kazaam. When Choice performed in front of LaFace Records executives, L.A. Reid was impressed with Moore and offered her a record deal as a solo artist. She had to choose between a record deal with Choice or as a solo artist. The rest is history. She developed her voice early on in her life. She had asthma and needed to learn to breathe from her lower abdomen instead of her chest on doctor's advice, and started singing lessons to learn this technique. Personal Life Pink dyes her hair frequently, but she is a natural blonde. On The Ellen Degeneres Show she revealed that there are real diamonds attached to her teeth. According to her, her dog's name is "****er", which she revealed in a live broadcast for MuchMusic in 2003, forcing broadcasters to censor the name in subsequent showings. Pink married Carey Hart in Costa Rica on January 7, 2006. Before she began her relationship with Hart, she was rumored to have dated Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee. Pink kissed actress Kristanna Loken at the 2003 World Music Awards in Monte Carlo and said she had a girlfriend at age thirteen. Pink doesn't identify as homosexual, but she says most of her friends are gay and that she's "had her moments." She has worked with the gay rights group Human Rights Campaign and is a prominent campaigner for PETA, contributing her voice towards causes such as KFC's alleged poor treatment of chicken before slaughter. She sent a letter to Prince William, criticizing the Royal Family's guards' usage of bearskin for their headwear. In November 2006 Pink mentioned in the News of the World that she is disgusted with fellow singer Beyoncé for wearing animal fur. Pink has most recently taken on the Australian Wool industry over its practice of mulesing, lending her face and fame to PETA. Edited January 16, 200718 yr by pink_princess01
January 16, 200718 yr Author Music Career 1999-2000 Cant Take me Home era Now that P!nk had signed on to a record label, she began to make an album. At first LaFace published her as an R&B singer, mostly because LaFace was a predominantly urban label. She has since complained about that fact due to her choosing to she relinquish creative control to her record label, she was made to make music she didn't like as well as brandishing an image she didn't like, such as her bright pink hair. Eventually P!nk released her debut album in April 2000, with an R&B edge to the album. It became a substantial success. Two of the total three singles from the album were top 10 hits in the U.S. and the U.K. The first single was There You Go (#7 U.S., #6 U.K.) and the second was Most Girls (#4 U.S.,#5 U.K.). During that time the album became 2 times platinum which means over 2 million sales in the U.S. But the success wasn't only in the U.S. It was also certificated platinum in the U.K. (300,000 copies) and 2 times platinum in Canada (200,000 copies). The album's third and last single, "You Make Me Sick", was released towards the end of 2000 and became a smaller top forty hit in early 2001 in the U.S., mainly thanks in part to being featured in the film Save the Last Dance, but still became a top 10 hit in the U.K. All three singles became top 10 hits in the U.K. The album has a global sale of 3,5 million copies. 2001 - 2002 Missundaztood era Tired of being marketed as another cookie-cutter pop act, and eager to become a more serious songwriter and musician, P!nk took her sound in a new direction and sought more creative control during the recording of her second album. She recruited former 4 Non Blondes vocalist Linda Perry, and together they co-wrote and co-produced most of the tracks on Missundaztood, released on November 20, 2001. Its lead-off single "Get the Party Started," written and produced by Perry, went top five in the U.S., while topping the charts in many countries. Other singles from the album included: "Don't Let Me Get Me," "Just Like a Pill," and "Family Portrait," all of which went top 20. The Dallas Austin-produced "Just Like a Pill," scored P!nk her first solo UK #1 in September 2002. M!ssundaztood went on to be certified 5x platinum in the United States, with worldwide sales of sixteen million. Meanwhile, the M!ssundaztood singles found additional success on Adult Top 40 radio also. Album's tracks "18 Wheeler" and "Eventually" were rumored as fifth singles; however, following sales that exceeded all expectations, P!nk took a short hiatus. M!ssundaztood was the second-best-selling album in the UK during 2002, and P!nk was the best-selling female artist globally. 2003 - 2004 Try This era In 2003, Pink contributed "Feel Good Time" to the Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle soundtrack. Produced by electronic music artist William Orbit and based on the song "Fresh Garbage" by 60s band Spirit. P!nk had a cameo appearance in the film as a motorcross race ramp owner/promoter. P!nk in the video for "God Is A DJ" from the album Try This (2004).P!nk's third studio album, Try This, was released on November 11, 2003. Eight of the thirteen tracks were co-written with Tim Armstrong of punk band Rancid. Linda Perry was also featured on the album as a writer and musician. Though the album peaked at #9 in the U.S., Canada, the UK and Australia and was certified platinum in America, with sales of 709,000 copies (3.5 million worldwide), it sold significantly less than M!ssunderztood. All three of its singles: "Trouble," "God Is A DJ," and "Last to Know" failed to crack the top 40 in the U.S., the former two, however, did go top 10 in various other countries. Despite the underwhelming performance of Try This, Pink received two Grammy nominations in 2004 for "Feel So Good" (nominated for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals) and "Trouble" (Best Female Rock Vocal Performance.) P!nk, meanwhile, toured extensively throughout Europe, where the album was better received. 2006 - present I'm Not Dead era P!nk's fourth studio album, I'm Not Dead was released on April 4, 2006. Pink worked with producers: Max Martin, billymann, MachoPsycho, Christopher Rojas, Butch Walker, Lukasz Gottwald, and Josh Abraham. The album charted top 10 in sixteen countries (#1 in Australia.) In the U.S. it debuted at #6 (with first week sales of 126,000 copies sold), and has been certificated Gold, but only spent twenty-three weeks on the Billboard Top 20 Albums Chart. In total it has been certificated in 12 countries with being the most successful in the U.K. (2x platinum) and Australia (5x platinum). The album was the fifth highest selling album in 2006 selling over 3.5 million copies worldwide.[6] The first single, "Stupid Girls," became her first hit in America since "Family Portrait" four years earlier, peaking at #13 in the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart. (Outside of the U.S. the song reached the top 10 in 15 countries and #1 in Finland, Venezuela and in the United World Chart making it her third #1 hit in that chart.) "Stupid Girls" later won Pink Best Pop Video at the MTV Video Music Awards, and has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. P!nk in the video for "Stupid Girls" from her album I'm Not Dead (2006).The second single, "Who Knew," failed to crack Billboard's Hot 100—but became a hit in Europe and Australia where it peaked at #5 and #2 respectively, and was certified Gold. The third single "U + Ur Hand," released in August, received limited radio play in America. Airplay however, slowly increased and the song later entered the Hot 100 Singles Chart the week of January 4, 2007 at #94. Its music video, meanwhile, has garnered sizable rotation on MTV's TRL. Outside the U.S., the single peaked in the top 10 in ten countries. The fourth single is "Nobody Knows" and has only charted in the U.K., peaking at #27. It has yet to be released anywhere else. A pink colored PSP was launched in August 2006 promoting the artist and Sony's Playstation Portable. The pink PSP will be released in Europe on October 2006 and include a P!nk-themed Universal Media Disc (UMD), featuring music promos, interviews, and an exclusive track. As of September 2006, no plans have been made regarding the hand held console release in North America. Also in 2006 P!nk was chosen to sing the theme song for NBC Sunday Night Football, "Waiting All Day for Sunday Night", which is a take on "I Hate Myself for Lovin' You" by Joan Jett. She has also contributed a cover of Rufus's "Tell Me Something Good" to the soundtrack of the film Happy Feet. Promotion pic for the site from the FutureSex/LoveShow Tour (2007)Through 2006 and 2007, P!nk has been (and will continue to) touring around the world. She started in June in America and ended her tour in Milan in December. Due the success of her album and singles in Australia she will be touring in May 2006 in Australia. The sales of the tickets were sold out so fast that P!nk was forced to add more dates twice. It has now a total 26 shows in Australia, which makes it one of the most successful tours there. In 2007, she also will be opening up for Justin Timberlake on the American leg of his FutureSex/LoveShow Tour. A December 2006 concert date in Wembley Arena on her I'm Not Dead Tour UK tour was hosted by London club G-A-Y, and it holds the record as the UK's biggest indoor gay and lesbian event. Also the DVD for the I'm Not Dead Tour was shot there and was shown by MSN live on the internet on December 19. The DVD is expected in March 2007. One of the tracks on the album is called "Dear Mr. President," which is an open letter to the American President George W. Bush and is a comment on the president's policies. There were rumours that it would be released as a single, but P!nk stated in an interview on the Australian TV show Rove Live that it will never be single because she doesn't want people to think it's a publicity stunt. Still the song entered the chart in Belgium in late December 2006 on #3. The next week it went to the top of the chart, reaching #1. Now the rumors are that it will be released around the globe as a fifth single, but in 2006 P!nk recorded a song in Switzerland with Scottish, former Eurythmics, singer Annie Lennox and it has been said that it will be a single in 2007. January 16, 200718 yr Author Acting Career Pink appeared as herself in the films Ski to the Max (2000) and Rollerball (2002). After her cameo performance in Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, Pink looked for another film script and settled on the horror film Catacombs, which was shot in early 2006 and co-stars Shannyn Sossamon. "It's pretty intense", Pink said. "It's not only a sort of slasher type, scary movie; it's also psychological and shows how mean and cruel siblings can be to one another. I liked that part of it." Pink was once on the short list of people to play Janis Joplin in an upcoming biopic titled The Gospel According to Janis, but she chose not to saying it would be disrespectful to Joplin because the film makers didn't want to say she died of a heroin overdose. January 16, 200718 yr Author Try This Try This is the third album by pop singer P!nk, released on November 11, 2003. Most of the tracks were produced and co-written by punk band Rancid singer and guitarist Tim Armstrong, whom P!nk met through a mutual friend at a Transplants video shoot. The two hit it off and P!nk ended up co-writing ten songs with him in a week when Rancid was on a tour with the Foo Fighters. Eight of these tracks appeared on Try This, which also features three songs written with Linda Perry, who co-wrote much of M!ssundaztood (2001), P!nk's second album. The album includes a collaboration with electroclash artist Peaches, "Oh My God", and P!nk's contribution to the Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle film soundtrack, "Feel Good Time" (produced by and featuring William Orbit), as a non-U.S. bonus track. As of May 2, 2004, Try This had reached the top ten on album charts in the U.S., the UK, Canada and Australia. As of July 2006, it had sold 709,000 copies in the U.S. according to Nielsen SoundScan. and 3 million copies worldwide, according to P!nk herself on her E! True Hollywood Story. The album's first single, "Trouble", reached number two in Canada and the top ten in the UK and Australia, but it only peaked at number sixty-eight on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100. Follow-up single "God Is a DJ" failed to chart on the Hot 100, just missed the top ten in the UK (where it reached number eleven) and reached the top twenty on the the world dance/trance chart (which is derived from U.S., UK, German, Australian, Japanese and Italian dance charts). A third single, "Last to Know", peaked just outside the UK top twenty (it reached twenty-one) and was not released in the U.S. Tracklisting "Trouble" (Tim Armstrong, P!nk) – 3:13 "God Is a DJ" (billymann, Jonathan Davis, P!nk) – 3:46 "Last to Know" (Armstrong, P!nk) – 4:03 "Tonight's the Night" (Armstrong, P!nk) – 3:56 "Oh My God" featuring Peaches (Armstrong, Merrill Nisker, P!nk) – 3:44 "Catch Me While I'm Sleeping" (Linda Perry, P!nk) – 5:03 "Waiting for Love" (Paul Ill, Brian MacLeod, Perry, P!nk, Eric Schermerhorn) – 5:28 "Save My Life" (Armstrong, P!nk) – 3:16 "Try Too Hard" (Perry, P!nk) – 3:14 "Humble Neighbourhoods" (Armstrong, P!nk) – 3:52 "Walk Away" (Armstrong, P!nk) – 3:39 "Unwind" (Armstrong, P!nk) – 3:14 "Love Song" (Damon Elliott, P!nk) – 6:32 "Feel Good Time" featuring William Orbit (William Orbit, Beck) – 3:58 (non-U.S. bonus track) "Hooker" (hidden track) – 6:32 Peak Posistions in Charts Switzerland albums chart - 1 Germany albums chart - 2 UK albums chart - 3 Australian albums chart - 8 Canadian albums chart - 8 Ireland albums chart - 8 Netherlands albums chart - 8 U.S. Billboard 200 - 9 France - 12 Sales and Certificates Australia ARIA - Platinum - 70,000+ Austria IFPI - Platinum - 15,000+ Canada CRIA - Platinum - 100,000+ Germany IFPI - Platinum - 200,000+ France - Gold - 130,000 Switzerland IFPI - Platinum - 40,000+ UK BPI - Platinum - 486,655 U.S. RIAA - Platinum - 709,000 Edited January 16, 200718 yr by pink_princess01
January 16, 200718 yr Author I'm Not Dead I'm Not Dead is the fourth album by pop singer P!nk, released in North America on April 4, 2006; it was released a day earlier in most other territories. P!nk worked with producers billymann, Josh Abraham, Swedish hit maker Max Martin, and Luke Gottwald, Butch Walker and Mike Elizondo co-wrote the tracks, which range from the intrinsically personal to political. The album was originally titled "Long Way to Happy", after the song of the same name, but P!nk changed her mind because she thought I'm Not Dead made a stronger statement that this was a comeback album. The album sold 126,000 copies in its first week in the U.S., failing to improve upon her 2003 album Try This, of which 147,000 units were sold in its first week. I'm Not Dead was not a major success in the U.S., exiting the Billboard charts after just twenty-three weeks (although it reappeared at #198 in late December 2006 and at position #181 in January 2007); it has sold 568,717 copies. After twenty-six weeks it went to number one in Australia and as of December 2006 was certified five times platinum with 350,000 copies shipped;it is P!nk's first number-one album there and the album has spent twenty-one weeks in the top five. "I'm Not Dead" was the 2nd best selling album in Australia for 2006 and it was the #1 selling album by an American and female artist for 2006. It debuted at number three in the UK and has not left the top 32 in its 39 week reign to the end of 2006 in the UK. The album ended 2006 as the 9th best-selling album in the United Kingdom, with sales over 854,391 copies. The album was leaked to file sharing networks on March 25, eleven days before its release date, most likely from a promotional CD. On March 28 the official website of MTV previewed the album in a section titled The Leak, where one can listen to an album one week before it comes out in stores. Before "Stupid Girls" was chosen as the album's lead single, videos were shot for it and "U + Ur Hand", which became the album's third single. "Stupid Girls" reached the top twenty on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the top five in the UK and Australia. It was the subject of considerable discussion, with P!nk attending The Oprah Winfrey Show to discuss what she called the "stupid girl epidemic". Another track on the album, a critique of U.S. President George W. Bush titled "Dear Mr. President", also attracted publicity; it is thought to be an open letter to President George W. Bush. Despite popular belief that "Dear Mr. President" would be released as a single, during a promotional visit to Australia, Pink appeared on the TV show Rove Live and said that the track would never be released commercially, despite unexpected radio airplay in some markets. Pink also mentioned during a radio interview in Seattle on Kiss 106.1 that she would not release "Dear Mr. President" as a single because she didn't want people to think it was a publicity stunt. "Who Knew" was released as the second single in May 2006 and failed to chart on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, while reaching the top ten in other countries, including Australia (#2) and the UK. The music video for the next single, "U + Ur Hand", reached number one on MTV's TRL, the single peak at #89 on billboard Hot 100 Singles and reached the top twenty across most of Europe. The fourth single, "Nobody Knows", was released outside the U.S. in November. The bonus track "Fingers" was used on a cellphone commercial in Taiwan, and "Long Way to Happy" — which is about child sexual abuse — was featured in an episode of MTV's The Hills. P!nk began her North American I'm Not Dead Tour on June 24, 2006 in Chicago (IL), ending in Dallas (TX), and she subsequently started her European tour on September 8 of the same year in Istanbul; it will end in Milan on December 21. She is also scheduled to perform in Australia in 2007. In 2007 Pink will be heading back to the U.S. to accompany Justin Timberlake on his FutureSex/LoveSounds tour. "I'm Not Dead" has been extremely successful in Australia, with all four singles to date becoming instant hits and the album being certified 5xPlatinum. The first three singles from the album, "Stupid Girls" (#4, Gold), "Who Knew" (#2, Gold), and "U + Ur Hand" (#5 Gold), all made the top 5 with "Who Knew" being the most successful - peaking at #2 and certified gold for sales of 35,000 copies. "Nobody Knows" has yet to be released but is shaping up to some very positive critical response. The album is still in the Australian top 5 after 39 weeks on the charts and peaked at #1. Her Australian tour, which takes place over April and May 2007, has been so successful it has forced her to add new dates twice. She will now be performing 26 concerts throughout her I'm Not Dead Tour in Australia with the majority of them sold out. Her 26 date tour is a very rare thing to happen in Australia and is to become one of the most successful tours to come to Australia, and SonyBMG Australia have decided due to her emmense popularity of late that a special tour edition of "I'm Not Dead" will be released sometime in late March/early April in Australia. Details are still to be confirmed on what will be included on the special tour edition. It was largely panned and given poor reviews by music critics worldwide, most of whom were unimpressed by its blatantly chauvinistic - and somewhat nonsensical - lyrics, and many believed (wrongly, as it later turned out) that that the lights were about to go out on P!nk's career, especially as the single had flopped in most countries outside of the United States. Lady Marmalade Although the song gave way to many cover versions over the years, the most successful was recorded twenty-six years later by singers Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mýa, and P!nk as a single for the Moulin Rouge! film soundtrack. Their version, a more successful single than Labelle's original, was a number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in the U.S. for five weeks, from May 26 to June 30, 2001. The Moulin Rouge! version of "Lady Marmalade" was also a number-one hit in the United Kingdom and Australia, introduced the song to a whole new generation of music listeners, and brought the song's infamous catchphrase back into mainstream culture. Its music video was nominated at the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards for "Best Pop Video" and won the awards for "Best Female Video" and "Best Dance Video". In early 2002 Pink teamed up with Bally Total Fitness to promote Bally Total Fitness memberships. The title of the advertising campaign was "Get This Body Started". In early 2002 there were several Bally Total Fitness commercials in the United States that used the Pink song. It was written by Tim Armstrong and Pink and features a prominent guitar riff. The song was released as the album's first single in late 2003 (see 2003 in music) and was moderately successful, reaching number two on the Canadian Singles Chart on November 29, 2003. Elsewhere it was less popular and in the U.S. it failed to enter the top forty. 2004 God is a DJ "God Is a DJ" is the second single released by the American singer, P!nk. It was released as the album's first single in 2006 Pink has explained that she noticed many young girls near her Los Angeles home aspire to the hypersexual personae of female pop icons, rather than careers or talents. She was inspired to write "Stupid Girls", in which she deplores the lack of good role models for girls while encouraging them to cultivate independence. "There's a certain thing the world is being fed, and my point is there should be a choice", Pink said. Pink said the song was "brought on by several conversations I've had with women and girls. Women have fought so long and hard for our rights and equality, and now all our attention is put on being a size 0", adding that some are "living vicariously through these people who seem to shop all day" rather than focusing on issues such as war and poverty. According to International Association of Eating Disorder Professionals, the song "highlights the culture's relentless and unrealistic pursuit of thinness and unattainable drive for physical beauty". Pink discussed what she called the "Stupid Girl epidemic" during an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Who Knew (b-side - Disconnected) "Who Knew" is a pop-rock song written by Luke Gottwald, Max Martin and P!nk for P!nk's fourth studio album I'm Not Dead (2006). P!nk has stated that "Who Knew" is about "the death of friendship. You're best friends forever, and then three years later you haven't seen each other in two years — what happened? You grow apart and people come in and out of your life for different reasons, seasons U+Ur Hand "U + Ur Hand" is the third single released from P!nk's fourth studio album, I'm Not Dead (2006). The song was one of the five album tracks that leaked onto the internet in July 2005. In an email from P!nk's website, it was made clear that "U + Ur Hand" was going to be released as a single in Europe, Australia and other selected countries on August 28, 2006. However onOctober 31, 2006 it was released in the United States as well. The song has been noted as sounding very similar to The Veronicas's "4ever", the choruses in particular, which was released about one year after "4ever". Both songs were written by Luke Gottwald and Max Martin. After the disappointment of "Who Knew" in the United States, Pink needed a bigger hit. At first, the song was thought to flop due to the fact that it did not charted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Then, two months after its release, it debuted on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart. On January 2007, surprisingly, "U + Ur Hand" finally debut on the Hot 100 chart at #94, climbing to #89 a week later. Nobody Knows "Nobody Knows" is the fourth single from Pink's fourth album I'm Not Dead (2006).
