Posted January 20Jan 20 6gZ-11-kOSQ Today marks 10 years since 'Right Here, Right Now' was released, a collaboration between Kylie and legendary disco producer Giorgio Moroder. It was the second single released from 'Déjà Vu', Moroder's first album in 23 years. It debuted at #154 in the UK after two days of release and climbed to #125 after a full week of sales. January 20Jan 20 I have no recollection of this, so had a listen for what might have been the first time ever. It was okay. Felt a little bit like a standard throw-away Kylie album track to be honest.
January 20Jan 20 For me this song was a return to form after the Kiss Me Once era fizzled. This track has a real sense of intention. The beat stomps and the guitar riffs are fresh. And Kylie purrs and belts all over it. Maybe one of my favourite vocals from her actually. Really impressive. Still absolutely love it. Edited January 20Jan 20 by McAndrew
January 20Jan 20 An underrated bop tbh. *.* I listened to it earlier for the first time since 2018(!) so it had definitely slipped my mind for a long time, but I really enjoyed hearing it again.
January 20Jan 20 7th Heaven remix of this is better for me CvfmPmo79WU I'm still pretty annoyed they went for a random midweek release on this, which prevented it from charting.
January 21Jan 21 7th Heaven remix of this is better for me CvfmPmo79WU I'm still pretty annoyed they went for a random midweek release on this, which prevented it from charting. Once again another example of a badly handled single and really it should have charted.
January 21Jan 21 Well technically it did chart as there was still a Top 200 at the time. #125! :cheer:
January 21Jan 21 Author If they held back the release a couple of days so it had a full first week of sales, it would have charted at #68 (assuming all the sales from those two days remained the same). Not sure what the reason for the Friday release was but it's a shame it cost Kylie another Top 75 chart entry. It was also on pre-order until 10 days after its release elsewhere - pre-orders were still a thing at this point of 2015 but seems odd to have it on pre-order for such a short time. I really enjoyed this at the time and I too found it a return to form following 'Kiss Me Once'. The full 'Déjà Vu' album is full of bangers actually, I was very impressed at how Giorgio brought his signature disco sound into the modern age. Karen Poole has a writing credit on the song so I wonder if it originated from the 'Kiss Me Once' sessions. Kylie performed this on the Australian leg of her tour along with Donna Summer's 'I Feel Love' - vocally she nails them both! Always makes me laugh how Giorgio is clearly not DJing! 5RA1Mk29kac
January 21Jan 21 Loved it at the time but hardly ever revisit it - it’s a shame that it’s sunk into obscurity in Kylie’s back catalogue.
January 22Jan 22 Ya not one I re visit at all now either which tends to happen to me with songs that are not actually on an album.
January 22Jan 22 Yeah I've been really getting back into this since I was reminded of it, it really reminds me a lot of that particular time in my life (that and Madonna - Living For Love, Karen Harding - Say Something, Years & Years - King etc)
January 22Jan 22 Does anyone think the single would’ve fared better if Kylie had been given lead artist status? Giorgio is obviously a legend. But had he been charting as a lead artist in recent memory?
January 22Jan 22 It probably wouldnt have done a huge deal more but had it been that way and not a midweek release it would have probably went top 60.
January 23Jan 23 Yeah, she was basically chopped liver in 2015 singles chart terms. All they had to do was not stupidly pull the release forward to the middle of the week.
January 23Jan 23 Fair assessment tbh I’m definitely biased but I tend to think the general public always have at least a mild curiosity over Kylie’s latest reinvention. That’s why I think lead artist might’ve helped this one … a little. Edited January 23Jan 23 by McAndrew
January 25Jan 25 This thread has made me revisit the song and add it to my playlists - it’s such a good song but as it’s not attached to a Kylie album or GH it’s just been lost in her back catalogue on streaming.
